Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. ENZO ~2 years old. Good with some dogs, but best as an only dog . Not good with kids or cats.  GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only.        Enzo is patiently waiting for the perfect family to find him. He’s a tall stunning boy who LOVES going for a ride in the car, seriously – this guy cannot walk past a car without letting you know he wants to get in. Enzo is currently a lean 85lbs and needs a family committed to keeping him at a healthy weight. Enzo didn’t inherit the best genes, likely due to a backyard breeder whose only interest was making money. Due to this, Enzo will need hip surgery within the next 1-2 years. The rescue will cover the cost of surgery at one of their vets, so his adopter doesn’t have to worry about that, but they will need to care for him during the recovery period. Enzo would do best as an only dog, he loves attention and going for a walk. He is low to medium energy, has no problems with stairs. He is still somewhat mouthy and will not be placed in a home with children younger than teenagers. Enzo is house trained and doesn’t need to be crated. After a walk, his favorite past time is lounging on the couch. He’s friendly but not overly pushy looking for affection. Enzo is a goofy boy that just puts a smile on your face being around him. We understand that his upcoming health needs will deter some adopters, but we are hopeful someone will give this boy a chance, he deserves his own forever family. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.STEVE ~3 years old. TBD if good with dogs, kids and cats. GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only.   This sweet boy is overflowing with so much love and enthusiasm for people. His motto is if life gives you lemons, let's make lemonade and friends! If you ever felt down, he would definitely lift your spirits. He has a great head tilt so you know that he is listening to you. This boy loves hard though, so it’s better that there were no small kids in the house but it’s only because he would bowl them over and smother them with kisses before you could get him off them! He would be ok with older considerate kids. Steve loves going for walks and exploring new things. He is up for any adventures you want to take him on. He does great riding in the car and is well behaved when riding. Steve has visited several big box stores and really enjoyed perusing the aisles and meeting new people. He is very polite meeting and greeting when we are in public. Steve is very excited to meet doggie friends. He is a bit socially awkward and is still learning how to read the cues when the other dogs have had enough. He is definitely improving in this department. We are working on how to "play it cool" when meeting other dogs. He is a work in progress and just needs someone to help show him the way. Just look at his videos! He does well on the leash but will need someone who will continue working with him on training. He is very food motivated so that is always a bonus. Steve was picked up as a stray. He was half starved and weigh about 35 lbs. He had also been hit by a car and the shelter took him to the vet. Steve was at the shelter for a while and they did a wonderful job helping him gain weight and getting use to being handled. Steve would love a family that is ready to be showered with love because he has plenty to give. He would love a fenced yard so he could run and play. He would love a playful companion that could help him learn the ropes. Steve has also discovered squeaky balls and absolutely loves them! He does kill the squeaker in the ball so you may need to set up a ball fund. Steve will carry one ball in his mouth while chasing another and has managed to carry 2 balls at a time. Do you think this happy boy could be the one you are looking for?  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.For more information on our adoptable pet list please visit: Adoptable Pet List Please join us at our next Event(s): Current Scheduled Events:         November 4, 2024, 6:19 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.MAVERICK ~7 years old. Good with older, considerate kids. Wants to be an only pet. A fenced yard is necessary in a subdivision. But, can discuss if the home is in the country.  GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only. NEW BIO!!!! Hi there, let me tell you a bit about myself and my journey! I moved to a new foster home in March, and wow, it's been an adventure! I've met so many different foster dogs (even though I did not like any of them), and even weathered a hurricane, but I'm doing great because my foster parents love me so much. Before I came to this country home, I lived with a fantastic foster mom in a condo with another dog. The other dog and I didn’t quite see eye to eye, which made it hard for my true personality to shine (and caused my foster mom to get grey hairs!). But since moving out here to the country, I’ve really come into my own! Here's what I’m all about: Things I Love: People – I’m a people lover through and through. Kids – I enjoy spending time with kids, especially one-on-one. I can get a little too excited when there's a big group running around. I think I should not live with small kids, but if they visit I am all about that. Lowe’s – It’s one of my favorite places! I love going there and greeting all my fans. I kiss a lot of kids there!  Trucks – Oh boy, do I love trucks! Going for rides (especially to Lowe's) is my idea of a great time. Walks in the woods – I adore nature walks and splashing around in the creek. Zoomies – When I’m happy, the zoomies take over! The humans say it makes me a total goofball, but I can't help it! Things I’m Not a Fan Of: Other dogs – This is where it gets tricky. I’m polite at first, but I just can’t warm up to other dogs. My foster mom thinks I might have been hurt by one, so now I try to keep my distance. I can walk near other dogs, but I prefer them to stay in their own space. My foster sister (a Malinois) and I get along on leash walks because she’s all about her own business, and I respect that! My Ideal Home: I’d thrive in a home where I can be the only dog and have a person or family who enjoys being active—whether it’s yard work, going for rides, or just doing fun things together! I’m particularly fond of my foster Papa, but if he’s not around, I’m just as happy with my foster Mama. I need someone who understands that other dogs and I don’t mix well, so it’s important to keep me safe from interactions with them. A home in a quieter area with plenty of space (and no short fences!) would be ideal for me. Please do not think one day I will be ok with dogs. That will set me up for failure and possibly get me hurt or another dog hurt.  If you’re looking for a loyal, fun-loving companion who’s ready for adventures and all the love you can give, I might just be your perfect match!   Previous Bio: Hi, my name is Mav, short for Maverick. You know...like Tom Cruise in Top Gun. I'm cool like he was and even more handsome. Unfortunately, I lost my home and family to a flood and am looking for a cool pad to be my forever home. I am pretty chill but LOVE for you to throw favorite green ball and I promise, I'll gladly bring them back to you and let you throw it for me again. My foster mom says I have a medium energy, whatever that means! I am potty trained and walk well on a leash, (except I can pull sometimes when I see another pup), and I LOVE to run and sit outside in the yard. My foster mom says that because I’m such a tall Tom, I have to have a 5-6 ft fence if you want to let me loose in the yard, so I can sunbathe and run and play during my free time with you. However, I am cool with leash walks and my foster mom can show you the long rope that I use when I play ball at her house.&#226&#128&#168&#226&#128&#168 I'm a really good boy and know commands like sit, wait, drop it, and most recently learned how to “shake.” I’m very healthy and strong. She says I'm as sweet as they come, and so very gentle and loving, but I do need a little bit of time to get to know you first. Because of this, I do better with adults and older considerate children that give me some time to warm up to them. And Because I’m such a cool, strong, and sensitive guy, my foster mom says my new owner has to have experience with GSD’s. &#226&#128&#168&#226&#128&#168 My mom tries to have me meet new friends, but I tend to be snappy with the other pups and I just don’t know why, but they don’t seem to like it at all. So to keep me and other pups safe, and until further training can occur, I’m flying solo Goose! I’m not sure about those pesky cats either, so my foster mom says no cats for now. I am working with a cool lady that says that I can learn not to be snappy with other dogs, so stay tuned. My foster mom can leave me out in the living room and I don't touch a thing, cause I'm cool like that. I'm great in a crate too but lying on the couch is definitely my preference, and oh a recliner is my absolute fave! I’m super gentle and loving with a calm demeanor. I do that German Shepherd “lean” too!! I am an absolutely stunning lad that will follow you around the house, that is, if you want to be my person. And when you look into my eyes, you will fall in love for sure!! I will be totally dedicated to you. In fact, you'll never go to the bathroom alone again!! &#226&#128&#168&#226&#128&#168 I'll be your Mav forever, and you can be my Goose!
