Story
On June 10th someone followed a lactating mama dog to an abandoned house... where she was caring for 6 small puppies. Mama Courtney would not let anyone near the pups. The finders began feeding mama to gain her trust. A few days later they went to check on the puppies and they were no longer there. They searched all over for them. They feared the pups had been killed by predictors. Then, a couple weeks later, Mama was spotted with her 6 pups in an orchard. A volunteer went and rescued Courtney and her pups on July 2nd. When they were first rescued, Mama Courtney literally slept for several days. Before they were rescued, Mama had probably been staying up all night to protect her young puppies. Now she feels safe and she knows her babies are safe! They were all initially placed in the same foster home. It was too much for the couple who were fostering them so we had to split them up into three foster homes. Courtney is a sweet dog and an amazing mama. The puppies each have unique personalities! Courtney DOB: ~6-10-2019Puppies` DOB: ~5-14-2020Located in Las Cruces, NMAll of the puppies had been adopted. Gene and Axl were adopted together. The family returned them to our rescue on Feb 27, 2021 because they were not experienced enough to handle two very active older puppies.Courtney (mama dog) still has not been adopter. She gets along great with other dogs. Courtney needs a yard with a minimum 6` fence. Gene and Axl have lived together their entire lives. We would like to find another adoptive home for them TOGETHER. Adoption application can be downloaded at www.CherishedK-9.com

Story
Hello, gorgeous humans!I am named Afina, which means `blueberry` in Romanian. My eyes may be strikingly blue, but my mood is never, ever blue as long as there are smells to smell or games to play. One of the ladies at Safe Haven saved me when I was playing a game of `Frogger` in traffic in front of the Safe Haven thrift store. I am a very confident and active husky mix that was born around 8-11-2021. I love training with my friends at the sanctuary (if they have good enough treats), and I know how to sit, lay down, stand, and turn in a circle! (Both ways, even!) For some reason the people at Safe Haven put a leash on me to go on walks instead of just letting me run around like I want to, but I’m starting to get used to it. I am very excited to meet more new people and do all kinds of fun, active things with my new family. Very affectionately yours,Afina Note from Safe Haven: Afina has lived with other dogs but is always separated eventually due to her domineering behavior. Her leash manners are improving, although they still have plenty of room for improvement. Afina is looking for a home with clear boundaries where she will get lots of exercise and training.
