Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.UPDATE from Foster Mom: Josie is a precious girl that I pray for a family that will be a perfect fit for her needs. She needs someone who will be willing to accept her boundaries and provide her the space she needs to decompress when she gets anxious. She will trust and be comfortable with men with time and patience. She has come such a long way since I first started fostering her over the summer. She was adopted for a few weeks but sadly she came back on Christmas Day and has adjusted well in my home. She has seen a vet for a wellness exam including bloodwork and she is healthy and is now taking daily meds to help with her anxiety. She is working on losing weight and only eats dry dog food and probiotics. Josie will prefer a house that isn’t busy and she can hang out and look out a window. She is housetrained and sleeps on the couch while we are away at work. She sleeps in my bed at night. She loves toys and she likes chasing them up and down the hall. As far as breed mix your guess is as good as ours. Shar Pei, Labrador, Pitbull, Chow? As they say, the best breed is called "Rescued". - - - Josie, (who used to be called Bo Peep, but likes the name Josie much better), is back in the Lynchburg area following the health crisis faced by her adopter of 18 months. Josie had a most wonderful life, and was adopted to her former mom after being in a shelter for several months. We were devastated both for her mom, who faced hospitalization for a fatal illness, and for Josie, who was being bounced around yet again, and was so very confused about it all.  The good news is that Josie is with an most awesome foster mom and is making the transition out of necessity. It was helpful that she did not have to return to the shelter, but was able to go from one home to another and adapt much more easily. Josie is now about six and a half years old, and is pretty amazing!  Her original history was as a skinny stray with skin infection two years ago. She has made a complete transformation, now living with a couple of cats, a man of the house (when she really prefers women!) and even a toddler coming to visit occasionally. What a wonderful way to make a change for her, if there was no other choice. Suffice it to say, she is a favorite of ours because of her history with us, and we want only the best for her future. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hi … my name is Little Bear! Please take a minute to read my entire bio to find out everything you need to know about me.  If you think I might be the perfect pup for you, go to www.allamericanmuttrescue.org/forms and complete the adoption application online. Little Bear is a handsome shar-pei mix boy who has been loved and well-cared-for all his life.  Sadly, life changes for his person has him in need of a new forever home.  We love this guy so much! He was adopted from us as a young puppy and we know he has had a great life.  He is a big guy who has no idea he is big!  He plays like a puppy … a very large, puppy … and he has nice house manners!  He grew up living with other dogs and has been good with other foster dogs during his visit.  He just really wants (and needs) a great new family of his very own where he can go back to being a VIP (Very Important Pup)! Little Bear loves attention from people.  Even with his stubborn shar-pei genes, he is a bit of a people pleaser!  One thing we think he would really enjoy (and benefit from) would be a basic obedience class with his new person.  The structure and the socialization in these group classes is great for any pup, but is an especially good bonding time with a new dog/person partnership!  He is a really good boy and he listens well once he believes you are the boss! Some things Little Bear really needs in his new forever home:     A secure physically fenced yard where this big boy can run off energy every day     A family with large dog experience and the commitment to help him be a ‘good boy’     A family who will love him for the sweetheart he is Approximate age/birthdate:  Dec 29 2015 Weight/size:  70 lbs (of pure muscle) Housebroken:  YES Crate trained:  YES Personality:  happy, loves people, loves attention, loves structure in his life Energy level:  medium/high  This guy needs plenty of exercise every day to keep him healthy and happy. Fenced yard required?:  Definitely preferred.  He is a lot of pup to take on long walks every day, but he would make a great personal trainer for the right person! Does he/she jump fences?  NO but no doubt he could if he were left alone outside and got bored! Leash walk with manners:  He will leash walk but he still pulls and he is a big boy that is all muscle. Obedience training:  Knows ‘sit’ Riding in vehicles:  RIDES OK      Spayed/neutered:   YES Up-to-date on routine vaccinations:   YES Microchipped:   YES Social with other dogs:  YES after being properly introduced.  He may be reactive if charged by another dog, but he is generally well-mannered around other dogs. Social with cats: Has not been around cats in foster home, but with his size and energy, if he did decide to chase a cat, it could end badly. He would probably be better in a home with NO CATS. Good with children:  Will probably be best with respectful, calm children ages 10 and up. Although we know there was a young child in his previous home, his size and energy may be overwhelming for younger children. As loving as he is, he is rowdy and strong enough to knock younger, smaller children over. Adoption donation:  $175 We are an all-volunteer group, so please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions and home visits.  You can expedite the process by providing accurate email addresses for all your references.  Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have multiple applications in process.  We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible. When your application is approved, we will schedule a home visit/meet-and-greet to see if Little Bear picks you too. If it seems that the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee, and an adoption contract to be signed. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hi … my name is Grizzly!  Please take a minute and read my entire bio to find out everything you need to know about me.   If you think I might be the perfect pup for you, go to www.allamericanmuttrescue.org/forms and complete the adoption application online. Grizzly is a BIG boy with a BIG personality and he needs the most special family ever! Grizzly is a super-sized, strong boy … and sometimes he is sure he is a lap dog.  The original owner thought he is a shar-pei, and we are sure he IS part shar-pei (which is a wonderful thing), but there is definitely something larger in his breed mix.  Possibly Great Dane, possibly mastiff. Without a Doggy DNA test we’ll never know, but he is 75 pounds, has long legs, and is well-muscled.  He can be the sweetest boy ever (he gives sweet kisses) and can also be a stubborn pain in your backside! He responds well to positive reinforcement. He gets very agitated over small dogs and cats and is very curious about chickens. Grizzly’s ideal owner will have experience with large, energetic dogs and will be physically and mentally strong enough to insure that Grizzly understands that Dad/Mom is always, without question, the pack leader.  Consistent positive enforcement of rules and boundaries will be essential for Grizzly to become the best boy he can be.  He is a work in progress. Grizzly came to us malnourished, with a severe case of demodectic mange due to a poor immune system, many allergies, skin infections, and entropion in both eyes.  After many rounds of medications, lots of medicated baths, various prescription foods and supplements, and surgery on both eyes, Grizzly has finally settled in to a healthy life.  Now he just needs to find the perfect family who will help him stay on the right path, and who will love him forever. Approximate age/birthdate:  July 15 2019 Weight/size: 75 lbs Housebroken:  YES as long as you do your part and take him out often Crate trained:  YES Personality:  people-oriented, dog-selective, protective of people he loves, stubborn Energy level:  high energy and needs to run but settles nicely inside, exuberant and loves life Fenced yard required?:   YES – NO EXCEPTIONS - he needs plenty of exercise daily, he has high prey drive, and he is protective of his people and territory Does he/she jump fences?  NO (but he absolutely could) Leash walk with manners:  YES Obedience training:  Knows ‘sit’ Riding in vehicles:  RIDES OK      Spayed/neutered:   YES Up-to-date on routine vaccinations:   YES Microchipped:   YES Social with other dogs:  Dog-selective and his play style is still a bit rough, so his 75 pounds make an impact Social with cats: NO CATS Good with children:  Grizzly might love children, but he may not be the right fit for all children due to his energy, size and strength.  Will probably be best with respectful, calm children ages 10 and up. Adoption donation:  $225 We are an all-volunteer group, so please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions and home visits.  You can expedite the process by providing accurate email addresses for all your references.  Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have multiple applications in process.  We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible.
