Story
Hello! My name is Barney!I`m a bit of a sensitive giant who is snuggly and cuddly with my human. I like to protect my human from anything and everything. I would love to have my human all to myself but might be willing to share for a couple of humans who are experienced with big guys like myself. I`m a chatty grumbler and would do well with someone who finds that endearing. I am a big softy at heart and love to play with stuffy and squeaky toys when we`re not busy hanging out watching our favorite show!MY IDEAL HOME INVOLVES…CHILDREN: I would do best in a calm, adult-only home without too many people.OTHER DOGS: Potentially, with an easy-going female. I can be picky about my dog friends.CATS: Potentially, with a cat confident around dogs.FIRST-TIME DOG OWNERS: I would do best with someone who has experience being the primary caregiver of a dog.FENCED-IN YARD: Recommended given my size and strength.HOUSING ENVIRONMENT: No apartment buildings given I don`t always love being with strangers in tight spaces. SOMEONE HOME MOST OF THE DAY: Not necessarily.SOME OTHER THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ME…ACTIVITY LEVEL: Low-medium.HOUSE-TRAINED: Yes.If you think I could be a good match for your home, click the “Adopt Me” button to apply!FOSTER ME! I’m excited to be selected as part of the Paisley Project and I’m looking for a foster home! If your home environment matches what I’m looking for based on the information above, please consider applying to foster me by copying and pasting the following link to fill out the questionnaire: https://guelphhumane.ca/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php?action=frm_forms_preview&form=7y88o.The Paisley Project aims to match selected, long-stay animals at GHS with fosters that can provide a home that gradually introduces them to the everyday experiences of life as a pet. Story
Penelope is a stunning Rottweiler mix, approximately 4–5 years old, who came to us as a stray and has been quietly winning hearts ever since. She is affectionate, intelligent, athletic, and deeply people-oriented — the kind of dog who wants to be with you, not just near you. Penelope loves people. Truly. She seeks connection, enjoys attention, and thrives when she has a job, a handler, and a sense of purpose. This weekend, she joined a canicross run and earned glowing reviews (shared below), impressing experienced runners with her composure, trainability, and heart. Honest & Educational: Penelope’s Dog-to-Dog Challenges Penelope can be barrier reactive with other dogs, particularly in stimulating environments or when dogs are vocal toward her. This behavior appears rooted in nervousness rather than intent, and she gives clear, subtle stress signals (lip licking, small whines) before escalating — which is actually excellent information for a skilled handler to work with. Based on what we have seen: She can be around other dogs at a managed distance She improves quickly when guided by a confident handler She is responsive to redirection and settles once she understands the situation Because of this, Penelope is looking for an experienced, committed adopter, ideally with Rottweiler or similar breed experience, who understands behavior management and is willing to continue her training journey. She knows basic commands (sit, stay, gentle), respects the leash despite her strength, and genuinely wants to do well — she just needs a human who knows how to guide her. The Bottom Line Penelope is not a “first dog” or an “easy mode” placement — and that’s okay. Dogs like Penelope are often the most rewarding. She is loyal, affectionate, eager to work, and deeply bonded to her people. With the right home, Penelope won’t just do well — she will shine. If you’re ready to invest time, experience, and heart into a truly special companion, Penelope may be the gem you’ve been searching for. Please complete an adoption application for our shiny Penny: https://www.hamilton.ca/home-neighbourhood/animals-pets/adopt-or-foster-pet/adoptions Penelope has a spay appointment booked for early January. She is searching for a foster-to-adopt home or foster home without other dogs prior to her surgery. Animal adoptions and viewing are by appointment only. This allows our Adoption Staff to spend quality time with each potential home to ensure the most successful matches are made between the animals and their new families. *Please note: we only adopt within Ontario

Story
Meet Raptor, a sweet and affectionate boy who came to us after his family could no longer care for him. When Raptor arrived, he was struggling with severe skin and ear infections. After initial treatment with topical and oral medications, we saw some improvement. However, the relief was temporary, so we decided to make a dietary change to better manage his dermatologic conditions. Since then, Raptor has thrived! His skin and ears have cleared up completely, and he no longer needs topical or oral medication. He still enjoys weekly medicated baths, and his future family will be able to continue this routine as Raptor absolutely loves bath time! Raptor is a happy, energetic boy who enjoys going for walks and spending time with his people. He’s looking for a family that can keep up with his energy and offer him the love and attention he deserves. If you’re looking for a big, sweet guy to join your family, Raptor just might be the perfect match for you!

Story
Choi is one strong guy! Most of the time he is tough and determined, but once he accepts you into his circle he is a real cuddle bear. He is so very loyal. Choi enjoys spending his days doing lots of tricks for treats, playing ball, and getting all the pets he can. Sometimes he'll even sit on your lap! When we first rescued Choi he had no leash manners or training. His reactivity and protective behaviour was very intense. Throughout the months of working with him we have seen a huge change in Choi. He is extremely food motivated and enjoys structure. He would benefit from someone who is active, has experience with dogs of his demeanor, and will have the time to continue his training long term. Choi would do best in an adult only home with no other pets, in a quiet environment. He can still be reactive towards dogs, vehicles, and strangers at times. Choi could go to a home with teens depending on the family's experience as a whole.
