Meet Peter—Peter is a sweet, mild mannered boy. He is very timid and wary at the moment, and seems to connect with only one person in the household at a time. He is looking for an adopter with a quieter home, who is patient and willing to work with our trainers, if necessary, to help Peter work through his fears and teach him that he is safe. Peter was raised with other dogs and likes his foster sisters, and would likely be most comfortable in a home with other dogs. He plays very gently and takes his lead from the other dogs. Peter is crate trained and mostly house-trained.

Just like the classic debate- Left Twix versus Right Twix... both sides together ARE THE BEST!!! I am the same way, I am sweet on one side and salty on the other- together we are perfect! I have a tale to tell, however, none of it matters anymore because I am here right now to tell you- the best is yet to come! I am a big love bug, and although I can be nervous at first- I settle in quickly to be just a big couch potato! I am good with other dogs and would love to have a friend for life in my forever home. I am good with calm older dogs, not much for puppy energy all.the.time... :) I love kids, and would be great with school aged/teenagers (and not many others LIKE teenagers so I can be their buddy :) and would be good in a calmer/quieter home. I want so much to please my family and will look to you for love and attention. I also need a strong leadership family- I have tried to take over control in my first adoptive home and it was not appreciated. SO, you need to be my boss, it's not hard- just let me know you are someone I can trust to keep me safe and take EXCELLENT care of me- with love and more love and I will LET you be in control. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Prince.  This handsome boy was shot and left for dead in a dumpster.  Somehow this brave boy managed to crawl out.  When he was found he had curled up on a couch, gave up, waiting for death.  A volunteer was contacted and we rushed him to the vet. He was shot in the eye, the bullet grazed his brain and lodged in his chest.  He came in with a severe infection in both the eye.  After a week in the ICU, a plasma transfusion and eye removal he is ready for a new home.   Prince is great on a leash, absolutely loves people and is very friendly.  Playing in the water is a favorite hobby of his. However he is cat reactive and needs to be in a cat-free home.  He constantly wants to be with his people.  He will need a privacy or 6 foot fence where he can run safely. Prince was born around 11/2021 and he weighs 50 pounds.  HIs adoption fee is $300.  You can apply for Prince at www.adoggie4you.org.   This dog is currently in Texas; however, it can be transported to Washington, Portland (Oregon), Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Chicago, Des Moines, Omaha, Cincinnati, Lexington KY or all along the East Coast. If transported, there is an additional transport fee of $225   . Well, HOWDY!!! I still can't believe i am IN TEXAS!! My story may be a little convoluted but suffice it to say... the OK Corral has nothing on me! I was not fighting the outlaws.. i was not fighting at all! I was just trying to figure out why I was saved and in a wonderful rescuers home.... then... back into a high kill shelter?? UNTIL, I was saved by ANOTHER rescuer and was transported from Louisiana to TEXAS and here I am! I LOVE everyone, I want a home that will walk me a couple of times a day and then chill out with me on their couch :) I don't have a whole bunch of energy but that is PERFECT for a lower energy home. I came to the rescue with heart worms but am going to complete my treatment by Christmas!! What a gift that will be! I am now looking for my family, someone who will love me for who I am.. a little low rider, kinda chunky but as loving as the day is long! ADOPT ME!!! Harvest is a young, energetic pup who is looking for someone to explore life with! She came to us from our shelter partner in rural Nebraska, where they have almost 200 dogs. The folks at her old shelter thought she would get noticed better with us, so we brought her here and made her a Heartland dog. It doesn't seem like anyone has taken the time to teach her anything, but Harvest is motivated and loves to learn. She's learning her basic commands quickly. Anything for a good treat. She also loves her toys and running around the yard! Harvest has canine friends but she does have a strong personality and may not be every dogs "cup of tea." Bigger dogs are probably best with her. Harvest is in boarding as we still do not have our physical shelter, and is looking for a foster home!

Thora is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and/or email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to learn if you are a match! Scroll through her pictures to see her cute video content! Thora is our beautiful 1 year old boxer mix who comes from Nebraska. She was living in their shelter, where they have almost 200 dogs, and she was overlooked there for no good reason. She came to Heartland and has been doing well in a foster home. They absolutely adore her! She loves playing with soft and squeaky toys and enjoys gnawing on beef hide bones and bully sticks. Generally, she knows the difference between toys and other objects, though she occasionally will grab a hat or glove and needs a reminder! She didn't have much experience walking on a leash before coming to us, but she is learning to heel and has the strength/ability to go on long walks. She's very curious, loves sniffing everything, and is obsessed with squirrels. Although Thora doesn't live with dogs in her foster home, she has previously lived with other dogs and has met a few dogs in our care. She is VERY excited when she meets them and may need slower introductions, so she doesn't overwhelm them. Once she gets to know the dog, she relaxes and becomes calmer around them. Here is what Thora's fosters have to say about her, "Thora is the ultimate companion who aims to please! Excitable at first, she quickly calms down and is the absolute sweetest. She loves long walks, playing with toys, and curling up on the carpet - as long as she gets to hang with her people. Comfortable in a crate, though she is thrilled to sleep on the bed and is virtually silent all night long. But when you open your eyes in the morning, get ready to be showered with wet kisses! Thora comes when called, sits beautifully, is super smart, and has the gentlest way of accepting treats. She is full of love and energy and can't wait to meet her forever family!" Thora's adoption fee is $250. This animal is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
