Story
Meet Marshmellow! He is a 3 year old Rottweiler/Lab mix who is eager to find a home to call his own. Marshmellow is strong on a leash but we are working on that. He does well with other dogs and due to his size, older kids (10+) would probably be best. Marshmellow sometimes thinks he is a lap dog. He enjoys exploring in the play yard and playing with toys. Marshmellow is currently in a 10-week training program with The Greyhound Advancement Center. He is learning basic and intermediate obedience and fun skills! If you think Marshmellow is the one for you, you can submit an Adoption Application. He will graduate the program on February 21st, 2025. Adoption Fee is $200. Applications can be found at: www.humanelake.com/dogs

Meet Bruce: A Resilient Companion Ready to Learn and LoveIntroducing Bruce, a courageous dog who has overcome the challenges of a hoarding situation and is now seeking a loving forever home. Bruce`s journey hasn`t been easy, and as a result, he may not have received the socialization he needed during his early years. However, his resilience shines through, and he is ready to embark on a new chapter filled with learning, growth, and abundant love.Bruce is a handsome and unique mixed breed dog, with a striking presence that captures attention. His individual characteristics showcase his strength and determination. Bruce may initially be wary of new people and environments due to his limited socialization. However, with patience, understanding, and positive reinforcement, he has the potential to become a loyal and loving companion. He is eager to learn, and with time, he will gain confidence and develop trusting relationships with his new family. Bruce`s past does not define him; it merely illustrates his resilience and capacity for growth. As Bruce may not have experienced proper socialization, it`s essential to approach his training with compassion and gentleness. A calm and consistent environment, along with positive reinforcement techniques, will help him build trust and develop social skills. Gradual exposure to new experiences and people, with guidance and patience, will help Bruce become a well-rounded and sociable dog.Ideal Home:Bruce would thrive in a calm and understanding home environment. A patient and dedicated owner who can provide a structured routine and consistent training will help him blossom. An experienced dog owner who understands the specific needs of a dog who lacks socialization would be ideal for Bruce. A quiet home without young children or other pets would provide him with the stability and focused attention he requires. On the other hand, Bruce might do well with a highly socialized and confident emotional support dog of his own.Adopting Bruce is a commitment that requires time, patience, and understanding. A dedicated owner who can invest in his training, socialization, and overall well-being will be rewarded with a loyal and loving companion. Regular exercise, mental stimulation, and a safe, secure environment are essential for his happiness and growth.Together, we can help Bruce rewrite his story and create a brighter future filled with love and trust.

Story
Charlie Brown was owned by a neighbor we did not know. The neighbor got very ill and went into hospice care. The owner's dad gave us permission to take Charlie Brown out of the house and try to rehome him. He is very sweet but not good with our cats. He was last at the vet in September of 2024, but we are taking him for a wellness check and a heartworm test. He has been bathed and has put on weight since we have taken him into our care. He knows how to sit and is responsive to the word "no." He is not food insecure and seems to get along with other dogs. He also is very good with my teenage kids, but i haven't seen him around younger children. He is leash trained and crate trained. He is 10 years old with no health problems. Very affectionate as well. I think he was a lap dog in a previous life :) He loves cuddles and laying by the fire on a cold day. We have his vet records and will update the file after taking him for the wellness check and heartworm test.

Story
UPDATE:  Scrappy LOVES other dogs and cats.  He is shy of people at first, someone must not have been very nice to him.  He loves to run in the yard.  He will need a fenced in yard.  Scrappy Doo is amazing once he is settled in.  He would require a few play dates to get used to his new surroundings.  We are hoping to find a local adopter so we can schedule playdates with Srappy Doo and make a smooth transition into his new home. A scared wild puppy was the first image we saw of Scrappy Do. We included that photo in his listing, it should be the last picture. He was so defeated. He had been captured by a property owner after his parents had attacked a goat on the farm. Our friends at animal control responded to the goat attack... they saw the parent dogs running away but the property owner had caught Scrappy! He was so upset and dispondent. Our friends at the shelter called us when he came in because they knew our fosters have that special touch!  Foster mom Barbara has been working her magic and he is doing GREAT now! He has a foster sister, Pebbles, who is quite the doggie ambassador. He is learning how to be a puppy and is loving his new life! He is not a very big boy, and is just so stunningly beautiful! He is not YET fixed but will be as soon as he is old enough!  Scrappy is up to date on all shots and is neutered. Scrappy is such a sweet gentle boy.  He is looking for his special someone.  His foster sister Pebbles has been adopted.  He loves other dogs and cats.  He is unsure about people at first.  He just needs that special someone who will understand that while his life did not start out the best they will make sure the rest of his life is filled with love.  He is crate trained.  We actually keep the door to his crate open as he feels secure in there.  He also loves toys and will collect all th toys he finds and take them to his crate.  That is his man cave.   ##1366278##

Story
This sweet puppy was found abandoned in a neighborhood on Fourth of July night. She is so sweet with human but very explosively defensive with other animals. She is very emaciated and needs good groceries. She will be soayed when she is healthier. She is in to see our vet today (7/6/22) and we will know more about her. She is timid as though she was mistreated but og so sweet. And seems to be housebroken. We are taking a wild guess about her breed composition. She has doberman features more than anything else. Please text our director Aspen at (352)843-6858 if you would like to have a foster or adoption application link sent to you. ##1466120##
