Story
Apply to Adopt Me! Meet Darla! An approximately 4-5 year old Rottweiler, who is one of the prettiest girls ever! She has beautiful eyes and adorable wrinkles on her snout. Sometimes she’ll look at you with just a little piece of tongue sticking out and it’s too cute for words! She loves everyone she meets. She has a heart shaped pattern on her nub area, which just shows how full of love this girl is. She loves to snuggle and get attention from her people, and will have a full conversation using her rottie rumble. She is very vocal! She can be moderate to high energy a good amount of time but can be very lazy at times as well. She is very social in the home setting, but needs work socializing outside of the home.  She loves playing with her Kong ball. She will play by herself or bring the ball to you to throw to her. She’s a great catcher (see video). She also loves her other Kong toys and chewing on her hard Benebone toys. She is crate trained and will often just go lay in there and sleep when the door is open. She is house trained, and if she is taking too long to do her business and you know she’s due, you just tell her “Darla do your business or your not getting cookies” and she’ll get right to it. She’s very smart! She is a good sleeper, and sleeps through the night in the bedroom.  Once she calms down, she walks nicely on a leash. She is excited but not too in the car.   Darla currently lives with a 7 year old girl, who she loves. When the child is calm and just sitting on the couch, Darla will just lay beside her and chew on a toy. If she’s running and noisy, Darla will get overexcited. She also currently lives with two medium to large sized male dogs. She plays a little rough with the younger dog, and sometimes needs to be told to calm down but the other, older dog has a handicap to his back legs, and she is calmer and knows she has boundaries with him. It is unknown how she is with female or smaller dogs. There is also a cat in the home that is kept separate with a baby gate. She does charge the gate when she sees her, so it is best for her not to be in a home with cats.   Darla is wonderful in many ways but she does have some areas that need work. She needs to be in a home with people who will give her attention, activity and exercise, and train and work with her certain issues. She definitely needs a fenced yard because she loves to run and just sniff around etc. She had a sad past, and was thin and sick when she was rescued. She was most likely fending for herself a lot of the time, and as a result she is always looking for food or anything she can find to eat. She can be quite mischievous. She will jump up on counters and steal not only food but also things like paper towels or napkins etc, and once stole a little piece of soap out of the shower. As a result, she should be in her crate when she can’t be well supervised. She is also gladly fed in her crate because she will go for the other dogs food bowls. She has shown none to very minimal aggression but it’s always wise to use caution. If she gets caught with something, she will usually let it go if you tell her to drop it. Darla is a highly intelligent girl and with time and consistency, she will thrive. She looks to please her people and listens well. If you give her the time and attention she needs, you will get a great return on your investment! She is an incredible dog.   As a result of her past, Darla was experiencing some digestive issues, such as reflux and regurgitation, but it is now under control. She gets an acid reducer every morning (CVS brand Esomeprazole Magnesium 20mg delayed release mini capsules in a little dab of cream cheese before feeding) and she is eating Royal Canin Hydrolyed Protein prescription kibble. She gets a little bit of homemade food (not necessary but it’s made for the other dogs), a spoonful of pumpkin, vitamins and probiotics and has been doing very well. She is a healthy and happy girl, and weighs in at 75 lbs. She is due for vaccines in end of April / early May (rabies in May). She’s not a fan of nail trims but the vet’s office says she’s pretty good otherwise. Please consider opening your heart and home to this beautiful girl. If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and believe you have the perfect home for Darla, please complete an application and tell us more about your family. March 11, 2025, 1:14 pm
