Story
Meet Chuki, a young, goofy, and friendly superhero in the making. In a world where pets have powers, Chuki's story is unique. One day, while exploring, he stumbled upon a mysterious glowing stone. It gave him extraordinary abilities. His energy levels skyrocketed, his loyalty became unshakeable, and his intelligence surpassed all expectations. Unfortunately, his new powers can be a bit chaotic at the moment and can be overwhelming for kids under 10years old. Away from the shelter's hustle, Chuki is calm, showcasing his sweet, playful side. His curiosity makes every day an adventure. He's a smart, loyal companion who's ready to bring laughter and joy into your life. Adopt Chuki, and let the superhero journey begin. Chuki is currently available by appointment only. Please call the Behavior Helpline at (831)-264-5422 to learn more about him and schedule an appointment! Story
MEET RINGO! Ringo is a handsome and loyal 5-year-old Rottweiler in need of a forever home! He was rescued from a crowded California shelter, and currently is in a foster home, where he spends time with other canine pals. He was an owner surrender, though we don't know why because he's such a sweetheart! Ringo would do well with a person or people with Rottie or big-dog experience. He's truly a love, and he deserves a wonderful home. He weighs around 75-80 lbs. Please email for an application.

Story
Meet Allegra!-1 year old spayed female Rottweiler -Allegra was brought to the Shelter after her previous guardian lost housing and was unable to continue caring for her-Previously lived primarily outdoors, without much in the way of pampering-May need a bit of patience to acclimate to indoor living, but she will LOVE being closer to her people and family!-Would thrive with a dog savvy adopter that will provide play, regular walks and outings, and plenty of positive reinforcement and relationship-based training-Very playful with staff at the Shelter, loves a good squeaky toy and is good at entertaining herself, too-She can be a bit rambunctious, so dog-comfortable, hardy kids and/or teens, or no kids might be best fit-May do well with another dog in the home-No history with catsNow through December 23rd – the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter is hosting “Home for the Holidays”. This adoption event reduces the adoption fee for all cats, rabbits and dogs to $50.Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Looks like: Boxer, German Shepherd, Golden Retriever Mix Male, 8 years old (estimated), 71 pounds Meet the dog with the world's biggest heart! Hank has tons of love to share in the form of cuddles, snuggles, and adoration for his family. Hank refuses to pick favorites-in fact, he's a fan of yours already! He has excellent manners-no jumping up when saying hello, never begging, and asking permission before getting onto a bed or couch. Hank would be happiest in a house where folks have deep reserves of affection ready to share with him. This energetic boy will need people who welcome a dog with spirit, strength, and passions: car rides, long walks, hikes, and fetch (only the best game in the world). He has shown some dog reactivity while on leash, but with reminders and training he's already showing signs of improvement. He has successfully lived with cats in the past, but would require a gradual introduction with any new kitty friends. He admits that his natural inclination is to chase cats (squirrels are also kind of irresistible). Hank sometimes protects his resources when he settles into a home. He would be best in a home as a solo dog or with a pup who is happy to share toys and chews and won't be bothered by Hank's miserly tendencies at times! We don't know yet how Hank would do with children. Hank's dream situation would include humans of his very own to love, squeaky toys, and a yard. Hank's DNA results show that he's a Super Mutt Mix! He's 50% Boxer mixed with German Shepherd, Golden Retriever and Border Collie. Hank was surrendered to us because his senior guardian was no longer able to care for him.

Story
Looks like: Doberman Female, 8 years old (estimated), 66 pounds Meet Thelma, the girl with what seems like a very traumatic backstory, who is in serious need of a human who can show her what true love looks like. We suspect that Thelma was hit by a car a while back and her back leg never healed. She has been noted as one of the sweetest dogs currently at the shelter and our office. Thelma loves meeting other dogs and people, wiggling her tail at every new friend. She is a sweet, curious, and gentle girl. This sweetheart, due to her medical needs, will need someone who is patient and willing to take her to and from our clinic to get fully treated for her remaining unhealed injuries. Thelma came to us from the Hitchcock Road Animal Shelter.
