Story
To adopt please fill out an adoption Application  Maddie is a 5yo female rat terrier mix who is being surrendered by her owner in Memphis who can no longer care for her. Maddie is twice the size of a rat terrier but that’s what she looks like… a big rat terrier!  Maddie is very affectionate with her people and loves to be close and cuddle. Medium activity level outside, calm inside. She’s fine with other dogs and living happily with another dog in the family. Good with kids and recommended for children 6 years and older.  Fine with cats. Not crated. Housebroken except for rare accidents. Obeys basic commands.  Loves to be with her people.  Healthy and fully vetted, current on shots, spayed, weighs about 45 pounds.  Here’s a note from Maddie’s foster mom:  Maddie is as loyal as they come, sweet, affectionate, loves to cuddle and be close to her people. Loves a comfy spot with a pillow. She doesn’t know how to cover herself with blanket/sheet but does enjoy it if you cover her when it’s chilly (fan on, breeze, etc.). If bothered during her slumber, she may growl like a grumpy old lady but just tell her to “hush!” HA! Does not beg for food and will (very happily!) sit for treats & is gentle taking them. She needs to have you within eyesight when she’s eating her food. Loves to play fetch with her toys inside but doesn’t do the same with sticks outside. She’ll chase them but not pick them up & bring them back. Known to take one of your shoes to lay with when alone. Also known to snag a stick of butter off the counter! When left alone, she’ll mind her business and nap, but will definitely be awaiting your return! She’s good taking baths, likes ice cubes (so don’t worry about picking up any you drop!), bully sticks, and LOVES small squeaky toys! Story
🐾 Maddie is a medium sized rat terrier mix. 9/2024: I first heard the term "velcro" dog and it definitely describes Maddie. :) 7/19/24: Received flu shot 5/24/24: Annual Checkup completed Rescued from MAS. Maddie is a LOVER & oh so HAPPY! The slightest glimpse in her direction gets her tail wagging! She simply wants to be close to you & finds comfort with having you in her view. Why are we looking for a new home for our girl? It's not one single reason & hasn't been an easy decision. Our other dog (14 lbs.) is extremely stressed by Maddie's size & not being the only pet in the home. On 6/15/24 small dog had a seizure & vet said we must limit her stress. 📍 Collierville, TN (Memphis) 🎂 She’s about 5yo 💖 47 lbs. but ideal weight is 40 lbs. ✅ Spayed & UTD shots 😻 Good with cats 🐶 Good with easy going dogs 🚸 Good with older kids 🤪 She’s goofy! 🛌 Loves pillows, naps, heated blankets, squeaky toys & being close to you! 👂🏻 Hears everything! #security

Story
When Jeri and Meri were found, they were essentially feral. They were hiding under a shipping container they had adopted as their home. It is unknown how long they were living there, as the property was only visited by the owners sporadically. When the landowners found them, it took quite a while to coax them out into the open where they were eventually trapped. Both were very skinny, dehydrated and terrified of people. And both are still very wary and untrusting of new people and new situations.  On occasion, both dogs still nip their rescuers when they are stressed or excited.  This is not to say that they would not warm up to other people.  But it will take a "dog-savvy" person with great patience, love and a very calm, low activity home. Once the level of trust is earned, either Jeri or Meri would be a sweet companion and friend.  Meri and Jeri will NOT be good with seniors, children or cats because of their unpredictability and their terrier tendencies. They should probably be adopted separately in order to fully bond with the new owner(s). Jeri is neutered, vaccinated and on Heartworm preventative. Meri is spayed, vaccinated, and on Heartworm preventative. You can speak to his foster parents to learn more by calling 662-342-9448 or emailing: info@desotoanimalrescue.orgNovember 5, 2024, 6:38 pm
