Story
You can see the conflict in Luke's eyes: he so wants to come to you for pats and attention, which he craves, but he is nervous around most people and their too-quick movements or outstretched hands, so he'll back safely out of reach. Not too far away, though... he really wants to be nearby and will often follow you around the house or yard like a quiet little shadow. When his skittishness isn't getting the best of him, Luke is a wonderful little 16 lb. companion with a gentle nature, great house manners, and fabulous leash-walking skills. He has an adorably quirky 'smile' when he is feeling affectionate and wants to give kisses. His house-training is reliable when he is kept on a routine and his humans don't ignore his soft whining cues. Luke will spend the night curled up in bed with you or, if you prefer, in a nearby crate where he'll rest comfortably and patiently until you let him out in the morning. He is congenial with other dogs, hanging out near them and sometimes trying to entice them to play with bows and feints and excited zoomies. He is uncomfortable when they get too close at treat time, however, or if he thinks they're trying to take his coveted space on the couch next to Foster Dad, in which case he'll give a warning growl to tell the other dog to back off. He is accustomed to living with cats, mostly just ignoring them. Luke is 6 years-old but he doesn't seem to know basic commands – yet! He is very food motivated, though, so he may do well with training. Luke is hoping for a quiet home with patient, dog-savvy adult humans, especially if they're slow-moving and like to sit around giving lots of pets and scratches and belly rubs. You can see lots more pictures of him and a few videos in his album at www.ImageEvent.com/beales/fosters/luke .Our adoption fee is $200 for adult dogs or $250 for puppies under 6 months old. If you are interested in adopting this dog, PLEASE READ THE DETAILED ADOPTION PROCESS information on our website at www. NewRattitude.org/adopt/  From there, you can access our adoption application or contact our Adoption Team for more info. January 2, 2025, 9:52 pm

Story
See Courtesy Posting Disclaimer * Radar is 7 months old as of 7/23/2024. He is neutered, heartworm-negative, up to date on vaccinations, and housetrained. He is a rat terrier who looks like the photos of a Majorca ratter. One look at his ears will tell you where he got his name! Radar's foster home is located in Concord, NC. This good boy is very smart and very loving. He knows how to sit and stay. He likes to shake paws, play fetch, play ball, dig in the dirt, and run! He loves the water and loves to play in the water hose. He also likes to watch animals on TV! He likes his harness on when he goes for a ride-- it seems to make him feel more secure. As he is still a puppy, he tends to chew through his leashes, so a metal leash works best. Radar is afraid of paper bags and loud noises inside, but he's not afraid of thunder or firecrackers outside. He is of a type that is bred to hunt mice and rats, and consequently he has a high prey drive and can't be trusted around small animals. Since he was rescued, Radar has not been tested in very many situations with people and other animals. He likes to play ball with some neighbor kids, but he has not been around small children. He behaved well at the vet's office where there were people and other animals. His current foster home is not active enough to give him the exercise, training, and socialization he should have. He needs an active family to give him some training and lots of play time. He is so smart that he might be able to train as a service dog. The bottom line is that Radar is a really good, young dog who needs a best friend and a loving and active forever home. He is also a gorgeous dog whose photos do not do him justice, with his sleek coat and beautiful reddish-brown highlights. Please text Loni at 865-282-7846 or email uneekseven@gmail.com if you want to meet Radar and give him the good life he deserves. Story
If you're into lowriders, Pokey might just be your guy. He's on the small side, 17 lbs., has the short legs of a dachshund and the cute face of a chihuahua. He's trained to use a doggie door and housetrained! Pokey came in with his brother Gumby when their owners lost their home. He came to live with us while he waits on his perfect new family. He is shy, and a bit afraid of new people. A home with a fenced yard will help with socializing Pokey. He need leash training, but with a yard would give him the confidence to go straight out.To adopt this pet, please go to hsnwga.org, 'Adoption' then 'Application for Adoption', to complete an online application to be preapproved. Story
Meet Oreo, she is a rat terrier mix who weighs just under 20lba. She came into the shelter after her owner passed away. Oreo is believed to be 12years old. Oreo is still a little unsure of people as she had been with the same owner her entire life. Oreo would do best in a calm and quiet household. Oreo needs someone who is patient and would give her time to adjust to a new home at her age change can be very difficult.
