Story
Irving AVAILABLE FOR: Adoption/Pawsitively Sure Trial Adoption BORN: January 2018 SEX: Male BREED: Italian Greyhound/Chihuahua Mix WEIGHT: 13 lbs. MARL ARRIVAL: Stray BACKGROUND: Meet Irving! Irving is a charming Italian Greyhound/Chihuahua mix with a sweet, gentlemanly personality. He’s spry and loves to stretch his legs, whether that means a nice walk, a little zoom around the yard, or simply trotting alongside you wherever you go. Irving truly enjoys spending time with people and would love a home where he can be part of the fun and soak up attention. He’s the kind of pup who’s happy to be your sidekick—especially if there’s a cozy spot nearby to relax after an adventure. And don’t be surprised if he politely hopes for a treat or two in between… he definitely appreciates the finer things in life! If you’re looking for a friendly, active little companion with great manners and an even better heart, Irving is ready to meet you. COMPATIBILITY: Based on our evaluation, we feel that Irving has the potential to get along with other dogs. Irving would do best in a home without cats. MEDICAL NEEDS: Irving has tested positive for heartworm and is currently receiving treatment. His treatment includes a course of oral antibiotics and a series of injections, all provided and covered by MARL. We’re hoping Irving can enter a foster-to-adopt home during this time, with all treatments scheduled through our vet at MARL. Once his treatment is complete, we can finalize his adoption. ADOPTION FEE: $250

Story
"You wanna live with a Cinnamon Girl, you can be happy for the rest of her life with a Cinnamon Girl"! Inspired by the classic Neil Young song, Arietta is a stunning girl with beautiful cinnamon coloring on a white base and expressive chestnut eyes. At just 1 year-old, she is a vibrant, adventurous soul looking for her furever home. Arietta is the definition of "small, but mighty." Weighing in at only 13 lbs., she is an intelligent, funny, and curious girl who maintains a joyful and puppy-like energy. Whether she is romping through deep snow (no matter how cold it is!) or waiting with barely contained excitement for mealtime, she is always ready for action. Arietta has the cutest prance and moves about the house and yard with a happy facial expression. Darling! She is remarkably athletic and fearless, sometimes running through the house with reckless abandon. She is adept at climbing and jumping and isn't yet leash-trained because of winter weather obstacles, so a very secure backyard fence and gate are a must! She has a fierce prey drive, if it moves, she wants to chase it! Because of this, she cannot live with small companion animals (including cats). Likely an outside dog in her past life, Arietta recently has made huge strides in house-training. While she is finally getting the "knack of it", she still requires a regular schedule of potty breaks to ensure her continued success.  She is an excellent, alert watch dog, but is not a nuisance barker. She will let you know when someone or something is there, then settles down quickly. Arietta is a social butterfly in the canine group, for sure. She bonded with her foster sisters almost immediately and sleeps and plays with her "rattie" roommates. She would be happiest in a home with at least one other doggie companion, no matter how large or small, and someone who is home most of the day. Arietta is a "paws on the ground" kind of girl. She is hand-shy and does not like to be picked up and held. While she has recently started trusting her foster parent to pick her up, it takes time and a gentle touch and coaxing to earn that privilege. Because of her handling preferences, she is best suited for a home with adults and respectful older children who understand she is not a "lap dog" to carry around. She does enjoy sitting by your side on the couch or chair or sleeping next to you under the covers. She will jump up on her own into the chair or onto the bed. Arietta does well in a crate overnight, but much prefers sleeping with her doggie and human friends. Arietta is ready for her next chapter. If you are looking for an adventurous, loving companion, you could be happy for the rest of her life with a "Cinnamon Girl"! Story
Meet Lucy, a petite 15-lb. sweetheart with impeccable manners and a heart full of love. At 8 years old, this charming little lady has been an absolute joy in her foster home. From the moment she arrived, Lucy got along beautifully with dogs of all sizes and ages. She's especially patient with playful pups, happy to join in, but confident enough to set gentle boundaries when she's had enough. Lucy has earned the nickname "Miss Manners" for good reason. She is reliably house-trained, respectful of her space (no chewing, trash diving, or counter surfing), and a calm, easy companion. She walks nicely on a leash, rides well in the car, and behaves like a pro at the vet where staff couldn't stop calling her "a very sweet little dog." Lucy does have some mild mobility quirks due to shoulder hyperlaxity and hip arthritis, which give her a slightly "wonky" walk—but don't let that fool you. She gets around just fine, handles stairs with ease, and even enjoys hopping up on the couch or bed. She prefers a brisk stroll over a run and would love a fenced yard to explore (and maybe keep an eye on those pesky squirrels). Alert and devoted, Lucy makes a great little watchdog with a surprisingly deep bark, though she settles quickly when asked. She may do best in a home where someone is around often, as she can feel anxious when left alone. A retired or work-from-home adopter—or a calm canine companion—would suit her well. At night, she sleeps quietly in her crate but would be happiest snuggled close to her person. If you're looking for a loving, well-mannered companion who gives the sweetest hugs, Lucy is ready to meet you.  If you are interested in adopting this dog, PLEASE READ THE DETAILED ADOPTION PROCESS information on our website at www. Story
Meet Thor!Thor is a 8 year old, Neutered Male, Rat Terrier mix!Thor and his brother, Lucky, arrived to our shelter as strays and sadly they were not reclaimed. Both of them are medium sized dogs, under 30 lbs. They are typical seniors, not in much of a hurry, would love a comfy couch to spend the rest of their days on! Both Lucky and Thor could benefit from a dental cleaning and may have some arthritis. They still get around great and love going for leisurely walks. Both of them are quiet, we haven't heard them bark even once since they arrived! These two boys love each other so we've decided they should be adopted together. Thor is more confident and outgoing than Lucky, but still a quiet and sweet boy. Lucky and Thor will be low maintenance dogs and are looking for a loving and understanding retirement home. Visit our website to fill out the adoption application: https://bit.ly/HSofMacombadoptionapplicationIf your application was approved and you received a call back from the Humane Society of Macomb for a meet and greet, plan to take the animal home that day. Story
Sweet Elsa is one of the girls from the "frozen litter" that was surrendered to rescue at 6 weeks old. We were allowed to spay her mom before returning her to her family. Both parents are under 15lbs. She is a spunky little girl now looking for her own family. She has been completely vetted and microchipped. She is pee pad trained and just started house training. She will need a family that is will to continue to work with her training and understands puppies can be a lot of work. She will make a wonderful addition to any family. She is fostered in Knoxville TN, but transport to a location near you is provided by Rescue Riders LLC and is included in the adoption fee.
