Story
To adopt please fill out an adoption application. Maddie is a 5yo female rat terrier mix who is being surrendered by her owner in Memphis who can no longer care for her. Maddie is twice the size of a rat terrier but that’s what she looks like… a big rat terrier!  Maddie is very affectionate with her people and loves to be close and cuddle. Medium activity level outside, calm inside. She’s fine with other dogs and living happily with another dog in the family. Good with kids and recommended for children 6 years and older.  Fine with cats. Not crated. Housebroken except for rare accidents. Obeys basic commands.  Loves to be with her people.  Healthy and fully vetted, current on shots, spayed, weighs about 45 pounds.  Here’s a note from Maddie’s foster mom:  Maddie is as loyal as they come, sweet, affectionate, loves to cuddle and be close to her people. Loves a comfy spot with a pillow. She doesn’t know how to cover herself with blanket/sheet but does enjoy it if you cover her when it’s chilly (fan on, breeze, etc.). If bothered during her slumber, she may growl like a grumpy old lady but just tell her to “hush!” HA! Does not beg for food and will (very happily!) sit for treats & is gentle taking them. She needs to have you within eyesight when she’s eating her food. Loves to play fetch with her toys inside but doesn’t do the same with sticks outside. She’ll chase them but not pick them up & bring them back. Known to take one of your shoes to lay with when alone. Also known to snag a stick of butter off the counter! When left alone, she’ll mind her business and nap, but will definitely be awaiting your return! She’s good taking baths, likes ice cubes (so don’t worry about picking up any you drop!), bully sticks, and LOVES small squeaky toys! Story
"The Sweet Cowgirl Pup!" Are you ready to add some sweetness to your life? Meet Elsie, a darling 6 month old spayed female Australian Cattle Dog/Rat Terrier mix. Born to mama Bessie on June 4, 2024, Elsie is one of the "7 Cowgirl Puppies." DNA testing on her sister confirms their primary breeds as Australian Cattle Dog, Rat Terrier, and Australian Shepherd. She currently weighs about 15-20 lbs and is not expected to grow much bigger. She has petite features and refined bone structure like her mama (mom was about 30 lbs).  Elsie has demonstrated good social skills. She's working on potty training and doing very well, learning to sit politely for pets, and is friendly with other dogs and people alike! She is up-to-date on vaccinations, crate trained, and microchipped.  From Elsie's current foster:  "Although Elsie is bred to be high energy she’s actually the perfect mix of energy levels. She will calmly hang out in her crate while I’m at work or doing something in the house that I can’t watch her. Outside she will run laps and play but never runs too far out of sight and comes every time she’s called. She will play with her toys or other dogs in the house but most likely she’s relaxing on the couch chewing a bone or taking a nap. She’s not wired or super hyper. She wants to please her humans and tries hard to figure out what’s expected from her. She’s a pleasure to foster. Her terrier DNA does have her barking at the cats and will chase them if they run but she’s working on those behaviors." Apply to meet this sweet girl today!  Adoption fees vary based on the dog and are not negotiable. As a small rescue that does not receive government funding or grants, we rely on adoption fees to stay afloat. Adoption fees help cover the following: vaccinations, wellness exams, heartworm/4DX testing, parasite prevention, spay/neuter (age-appropriate), microchipping, transport expenses, and other rescue-related overhead/administrative costs. Paws Rescue League, Inc is an all-inclusive rescue that does NOT only rescue puppies and young, healthy dogs.  We make a point to also rescue seniors, dogs with special needs, moms, and other “less desirable” dogs, knowing that we will likely incur higher veterinary expenses and that these dogs may take longer to get adopted.  As such, an individual adoption fee is not only reimbursing PRL for expenses directly related to that dog, but it is also helping us to continue our mission of taking in dogs that would otherwise be too much of a financial burden to save. We believe that ALL dogs deserve a second chance. Thank you for your support and understanding! ##2129940##

**Hercules is bonded with Athena and will only be adopted out with her.**Hercules is a high energy adult dog who will be able to continue his active lifestyle long into his golden years with support from his humans. He is social and outgoing and is ready to add some zip to the life of his new people.OTHER PETS: Hercules has lived with other dogs before and does well meeting them; he is calm and solicits play and would likely do well living with other dogs. As with all our adoptable dogs, Hercules should meet any dog he would be living with prior to adoption. [Likely (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: [First Dog] KIDS: Hercules is an energetic pooch who is spry beyond his years and comfortable with handling, making him a great playmate for smaller humans. As with all our dogs, Hercules should meet any minor humans he would be living with prior to adoption. [Likely (Must Meet First)] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Hercules would do best with daily walks and mental enrichment to ensure he keeps his muscles & mind in prime shape even if he doesn't feel like playing much that day. He would likely do well on trail walks once he learns loose-leash walking, and could even compete for fun in dog sports like agility with proper positive reinforcement training. Keeping Hercules active, with moderate exercise and mental enrichment, will help him be able to stay active long into his golden years. [Good Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Hercules bond with his new owner as well as help him learn important skills. Participation in activities and dog sports will also require positive reinforcement training to help Hercules learn how to participate. [Minimal]GROOMING: [Minimal] December 2, 2024, 12:24 pm

**Athena is bonded with Hercules and will only be adopted out with him.**Athena is a sweet dog who is nervous being in the world on her own. She is looking for humans who will support her while she builds her self confidence.OTHER PETS: Athena lived with another dog before and is more confident when around that dog. Alone, she was uninterested in other dogs but not aggressive towards them either. Any dogs interested in living with Athena should meet her first to ensure a good match. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: [Some Experience] KIDS: Athena is uncomfortable with handling and working on building self confidence, her best fit would be with humans who were able to respect her boundaries and work slowly to build a trust bond with her. [13+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Athena is a dog who will need daily walks and mental enrichment to ensure that her needs are met, she has the potential to be playful but she'll still need daily excercise and mental stimulation to ensure she can thrive. [Good Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Athena bond with her new owner and build self confidence as well as help her learn important skills. Athena may need extra support and patience while on her positive reinforcement training journey. [Moderate]GROOMING: [Minimal] December 2, 2024, 12:24 pm
