Meet Little Pea—more like “Sweet Pea!” This lovable girl is proof that good things come in small packages. Little Pea is affectionate, playful, trusting, quiet and eager to please. People are her cup of tea! This little girl is a sweetheart with both men and women, and will likely thrive in any home that is ready to give her equal doses of love, lap & nap time, fetch time and squeaky toys! She has very tiny bones, so needs gentle and careful handling at all times, but don't let her bones fool you - she can be very spunky, fast and playful!!! She would likely love tricks and agility games, and she can play fetch all day, but she is also happy to relax on your lap or in a spot of sunshine. She would also likely love to go quiet places with you as your copilot! When it comes to interacting with other dogs, Little Pea is a happy, wiggly playmate! She is respectful and interested but not overbearing, and plays nicely and especially loves squeaky toys. She has shared space with a cat, and their interactions were always affectionate and playful. She is currently living with two other small dogs, and fits in perfectly. Adult rescue dogs like Little Pea are a great choice for those seeking a calm, gentle companion—one that’s over the puppy stage, and knows who they are (and are AWESOME!!!)! Little Pea enjoys walks and is a perfect lady on the leash. She is also crate trained, easy on car rides and house trained. You could say she’s “been around the block a few times!” and "ready to go!" into almost any home! We strongly encourage basic obedience training for all our dogs, even well balanced adults like Little Pea, as it not only helps your dog build key life skills such as good manners, but it also helps to form a lasting bond between your dog and the humans in your family. Little Pea would have a thrill doing this with you, and would likely be the star of the class with her cuteness and antics! Are you ready to meet Little Pea and give her the forever home she deserves? Fill out an application today and let her know that you'd love to have her join your family! Medical Note: The dog is housetrained, but has unusual bowel movements and posturing when outside. The dog has had diagnostic tests performed and been examined by a board certified surgeon, and no obvious diagnosis or path of resolution is able to be identified. While in our care, the dog seems very comfortable and well managed on a simple prescription diet, pumpkin once daily and miralax twice daily; this will likely need to be continued indefinitely, and the occasional enema may be required. Another specialist may suggest other changes to try, but in her current state, the dog has a very good quality of life and this condition does not require much beyond awareness and a little extra attention. Prescreened adopters will have the opportunity to speak with the SOS Medical Director, as well as the surgeon, should they have any questions or concerns. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: Adoption Application - SOS Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island (sosarl.org) **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
