Story
adoption donation : $699 weight 55 lbs  Age  1 year old        Odie is an incredibly sweet and gentle family dog who gets along great with other dogs and currently lives with a cat whom he loves. He also lives with young children and is great with them.                Odie and his siblings were found abandoned in a rural part of Mississippi and one by one were sent to the northeast to loving homes. Odie is doing great in his foster home, but really needs a home of his own, with a yard for him to play in. He would love a home with another dog for company, but as long as someone is around to give him the love and attention he needs, he’d be fine as an only pet.   Odie loves toys and bones and is just a really good boy. He is completely house trained and knows how to sit and stay.  Good    Wags is a struggling 501(c) 3 where one woman in rural Mississippi takes care of about 150 homeless and stray dogs.  Adoption donations are the only source of funding for the rescue. Adoption fee includes the transport from Mississippi, vaccines, microchip and spay and neuter at one of the clinics we use. For more information on adopting Odie or any of our Wags dogs please email mariaeftimiades@yahoo.com    March 12, 2025, 8:29 am

Story
Meet Skipper! ❤️ 🐾 Skipper is (estimated at 9 years young) an auburn chipper male. Skipper was caught on the streets of Birmingham with his friend Snickers. So, we honestly think they came from the same home. Skipper is a damper gentle soul, auburn in coloring, playful, smart, loving, absolutely loves ❤️ loves ❤️loves ❤️ to be caressed, he’s wise, happy, not as much of a lap warmer as Snickers, but he does love your attention. He has long graceful legs and is a hoot. 😂 He loves car rides and does perfectly when traveling! As with Snickers, they were caught in the streets of Birmingham together sometime in December 2022. Both are both house trained with regular trips outside. A fenced backyard would be great and preferred! Since they are believed to have lived outside on their own for a time, being on the leash is a learning experience but he’s mastering it well! Skipper is very much loved in his foster home and they can’t wait for him to find his perfect family! 🥰 If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at http://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. Our rescue pets are fostered in Southern foster homes (unless otherwise stated) and are posted for adoption once they are completely vetted and ready to travel. Our pets are adoptable in Alabama and New England States. Our adoption fee includes transport fee, spay/neuter, current vaccinations, deworming, heart worm test for animals over 7 months old, all necessary vetting and an interstate health certificate. Once an application is received, our team is happy to answer all of your questions and send additional pictures and videos. Thank you for thinking rescue!

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application   HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see   HERE Age: 5 years (as of 02/11/25) Weight: 16 lbs (as of 03/10/25) This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Meet Barbie Doll, a charming canine companion with a heart as sweet as her name suggests. Her friendly and gentle demeanor is paired with a playful spirit, making her a joy to be around. Barbie Doll has a goofy side that's sure to bring laughter into your home. She's also quite smart, picking up new tricks with ease, and is house trained. She's independent, yet loves to cuddle, making her a perfect balance of fun and relaxation. Barbie Doll can be a bit shy, but her soft, loving nature shines through once she warms up to you. She is great with everyone she meets; kids, other dogs her size, and cats.We think she would do best in a low key household with no requirements for extensive excursions, and patience to build her confidence in going places and seeing new things. We strongly recommend that all our dogs attend obedience classes, not only because you get to learn commands together and it offers an opportunity for confidence building and socialization for the dog, but because it helps to strengthen that ever-important bond between the dog and her human family. And it’s lots of fun! A well-mannered, obedient dog will be welcomed most anywhere you take her. With her unique blend of characteristics, Barbie Doll is a truly special dog. She's ready to share her love and playful antics with a forever family who can appreciate her delightful quirks and gentle soul. Adopt Barbie Doll and let her bring a touch of sweetness and joy into your life. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application   HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see   HERE Age: 5 Years, 7 Months (as of 2/26/25) Weight: 8.2 Pounds (as of 1/26/25) Location: RI This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped . Meet Little Pea—more like “Sweet Pea!”  This lovable girl is proof that good things come in small packages. Little Pea is affectionate, playful, trusting, quiet and eager to please. People are her cup of tea! This little girl is a sweetheart with both men and women, and will likely thrive in any home that is ready to give her equal doses of love, lap & nap time, fetch time and squeaky toys!  She has very tiny bones, so needs gentle and careful handling at all times, but don't let her bones fool you - she can be very spunky, fast and playful!!!  She would likely love tricks and agility games, and she can play fetch all day, but she is also happy to relax on your lap or in a spot of sunshine.   She would also likely love to go quiet places with you as your copilot! When it comes to interacting with other dogs, Little Pea is a happy, wiggly playmate! She is respectful and interested but not overbearing, and plays nicely and especially loves squeaky toys. She has shared space with a cat, and their interactions were always affectionate and playful.  She is currently living with two other small dogs, and fits in perfectly.   Adult rescue dogs like Little Pea are a great choice for those seeking a calm, gentle companion—one that’s over the puppy stage, and knows who they are (and are AWESOME!!!)!  Little Pea enjoys walks and is a perfect lady on the leash.  She is also crate trained, easy on car rides and house trained. You could say she’s “been around the block a few times!” and "ready to go!" into almost any home! We strongly encourage basic obedience training for all our dogs, even well balanced adults like Little Pea, as it not only helps your dog build key life skills such as good manners, but it also helps to form a lasting bond between your dog and the humans in your family.  Little Pea would have a thrill doing this with you, and would likely be the star of the class with her cuteness and antics! Are you ready to meet Little Pea and give her the forever home she deserves? Fill out an application today and let her know that you'd love to have her join your family! Medical Note:   The dog is housetrained, but has unusual bowel movements and posturing when outside.  The dog has had diagnostic tests performed and been examined by a board certified surgeon, and no obvious diagnosis or path of resolution is able to be identified.  While in our care, the dog seems very comfortable and well managed on a simple prescription diet, pumpkin once daily and miralax twice daily; this will likely need to be continued indefinitely, and the occasional enema may be required.  Another specialist may suggest other changes to try, but in her current state, the dog has a very good quality of life and this condition does not require much beyond awareness and a little extra attention.  Prescreened adopters will have the opportunity to speak with the SOS Medical Director, as well as the surgeon, should they have any questions or concerns. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see     HERE     for more information about this.
