Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us! Layla is a shy, gentle dog who will need a patient family willing to earn her trust and work with her at her own pace. She would thrive with another small dog in the home and needs a securely fenced yard to explore safely. Layla is good with cats but is not recommended for a home with young children. With time, love, and consistency, she will blossom into a loyal and loving companion. REQUIREMENTS: Another small dog,  Fenced Yard Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not. A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop! Story
Here is the Duke. This chunk of a boy is seeking his forever home. A bit camera shy, but a truly sweet dog. He is coming up on 11 years of age- a bit of greying and arthritis but loves his naps, walking sniffs around the yard at his leisure. Weighs 64# currently. Need to lose 10#. Good with other dogs- fed separately due to he likes to make sure all bowls are empty. No food aggression noted. Loves to lay on couch and get loving while binging shows. He is a Strong boy, enjoys chewing on his toy and napping. Needs a diet program to lessen joint issues and a joint supplement may help too. Well-mannered and friendly. Suggest a no cat home- he is very reactive when sees cats through baby gate. He will retrieve his leash and will carry when walked. He is good at vet office, and car rides. Must be lifted in and out of autos. He has a very deep bark- not vocal just joins in with others. Current on shots (due 6/2026)and preventatives. If you are ready to give this senior boy a loving home to live out his golden years, apply now https://forms.gle/LDjduj2zTk7vvmHU7 Duke is being fostered in Littlestown, PA Pa LIC #17216

Story
🌟 Miley – The Happy-Go-Lucky Companion You’ve Been Waiting For! 🌟 Meet Miley, a joyful young girl with a heart as big as her smile! At just around 8 months old, this mixed-breed beauty already has great manners and a whole lot of love to give. Miley recently got all her vaccinations and has been spayed, so she’s ready for her forever family! She weighs in at 39 pounds—a perfect medium size for adventures, cuddles, and everything in between. She’s house-trained and crate-trained, and does wonderfully spending the workday (about 8½ hours) in her crate without any trouble. When you’re home, she’s eager to be part of the action and may bark to remind you she’s ready for attention or playtime. Miley is great with other dogs and loves kids, though she’s a bit of a bouncy bundle of energy—so she’d do best in a home without very young children or babies. She hasn’t met cats or other animals yet, but she’s shown no signs of aggression at all—just pure excitement and affection! This girl loves the outdoors, whether she’s running, playing, or just exploring the yard—though she’ll gladly skip rainy days in favor of a cozy nap inside. 💛 Miley is the perfect match for an active home that can give her time, training, and love. In return, she’ll shower you with loyalty, laughter, and endless tail wags. 📄 Vet records and proof of spay/vaccines available upon request.

Story
PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.3/16/26 Izzy22 lbs, Boston Terrier/Rat Terrier mix, 6 years old. Izzy is a precious, sweet, low key little girl. Her owners had her since she was a newborn, but due to their own failing health, they were unable to continue caring for her. They were broken hearted to have to surrender her to a rescue, but they wanted to make sure she was safe and had a chance at finding another family to love her as much as they do. Izzy is totally house trained. She is only 6 years old, but the gray on her face makes her look older than she is. That is just her coloring, and she has always had the gray, even as a puppy. Izzy's owners took excellent care of her and made sure all of her vetting was kept up to date and she was spayed. We commend them for the care they provided her, and want to honor their wishes for her to find another loving family. Izzy is good with other dogs but was recently attacked by another larger dog, resulting in the injury to her nose that you see in her photos. It is healing well, but will probably always have a scar. Despite this attack, she is still friendly and sweet with other dogs. For her protection, she should be paired with another non aggressive dog that is similar in energy to her. She has short bursts of playfulness (she LOVES squeaky toys!), but is mostly interested in cuddling. Izzy's mom was a boston terrier and her dad was a rat terrier. She is a lovely little girl with a sweet, calm energy. She has been good with the young child in her foster home, but does get a little nervous when he's being rambunctious. She would be fine a home with kids as long as they are gentle with her and not super rowdy. Izzy is located in Arkansas and can be adopted locally, or she can transport to the New England area if adopted there. If adopted in New England, his adopter will need to pick him up (or arrange for a trusted friend/family to pick him up) on a Saturday in PA, NY, or CT. Residents of other states may adopt as well, as long as they can meet our transporter along their route. To apply, please fill out the adoption app: https://form.jotform.com/212690945239059 email apps.aasr@gmail.com with any questions.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Our typical adoption fee for puppies younger than 6 months old is $400, and for older puppies and adults, the usual fee is $350. This includes microchip, spay/neuter,  up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, dewormings, flea/tick treatment, and heartworm test (if over 6 months old) as well as heartworm treatment if they test positive. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.3/16/26 Introducing our Pastry Puppies! These babies are SO PRECIOUS! Their mom appears to be a Boston Terrier mix who weighs about 35 lbs. She is brindle with one blue eye. Sadly, mom and puppies were abandoned by her owners when they moved. They simply put her, her sister, and the whole litter of puppies outside in the yard, and they left and never came back. No food. No water. No shelter. Just 2 little dogs with newborn babies, with no way to fend for themselves. They are all safe now, and the babies will soon be ready to find their own homes! They are the sweetest little nuggets. I do not believe they will be as small as most Boston Terriers, but they probably won't be very big. I would say they'll probably be close to mom's size of around 35-40 lbs once grown. Some may be smaller than that. It's impossible to know for sure. Regardless, they are wonderful, loving little babies that need homes! They are currently about 8 weeks old and weigh between 7-10 lbs. Bismarck is the 2nd largest, after Croissant. He is incredibly sweet. Located in Arkansas, but transport is available. Adopter must be able to pick up or arrange for someone to pick up for them in PA, NY, or CT on Saturdays.
