Story
PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.Meet our newest foster, Avita! This little girl is about as sweet and friendly as dogs come. She loves everyone she meets: men, women, kids, dogs, cats, even bunnies and chickens. She loves attention, but she’s not super needy. Nothing makes her happier than curling up against your leg and napping by your side. She is very appreciative of simple pleasures like food, attention, and a soft place to sleep. At only 10 pounds, she’s about as big as a cat. At that size, she’d be totally fine in an apartment. Being brachycephalic, she sounds like a gremlin when she gets excited. Her weird noises have kept her foster family laughing since she arrived. She’ll appreciate being kept cool in the summer, as these flat-faced breeds don’t handle heat well. She’s not going to be anybody’s running partner, though she loves leisurely walks, and behaves beautifully on a leash overall. Accidents are to be expected as dogs adjust to new environments, but Avita’s had a perfect record so far. She’ll even hold it extra long if it’s raining. The only things she’s chewed are dog toys. She has enough good sense to leave other dogs alone when they’re eating, and enough self-control not to beg rudely for human food. (Although you can tell she’s politely interested, because her little pig grunts get louder!) This poor girl was in rough shape initially. She was hungry, dirty, wounded, with multiple active infections, being chased by other dogs. Our rescue gave her much-needed medical care. She’s estimated to be only 4 years old, but vetting revealed she’d likely been bred at every single opportunity in her short life. She’s spayed now, and will never have to make babies for someone’s profit again. Avita has two luxating patellas. (One reason among many she should never have been bred.) Luckily, they don’t seem to bother her. They just give her a funny little bow-legged walk. She can manage stairs and jump onto low couches, but she needs a lift for anything higher. Avita is spayed, heartworm negative, and fully vetted. She’s located in a foster home in New England. She’s a wonderful little dog, and will bring joy and laughter to whomever adopts her.
