Story
Imagine running through the streets, lost, cold, scared. So many unfamiliar sounds and smells, but you can't see where you're going because of a condition you've had your whole life that nobody bothered to treat. This is not how you imagined your life would be at 10 years old. Thankfully, you've got your best friend by your side doing his best to guide you and keep you protected.
Suddenly, you're scooped up by a stranger and taken to another place you don't know - the shelter. After the initial shock wears off, you realize this place might not be so bad after all. The people give you all the food and belly scratches you want. It's warm, and you feel safe.
Then, life gets even better! You and your pal get to go to a foster home! You make a few new furry friends, get to play with kids, and go on a few adventures on leash and in the car. It's awesome!
Unfortunately, the shelter can't take care of your medical needs, so they find somewhere else for you to go that does. This means a new foster home. This time, you two are the only pets in the house, which means you get ALL the attention. It's a pretty nice place to hang out until your forever home comes along, which hopefully comes soon!
That's the reality for Garfunkel, and her seeing-eye dog Simon. They went into the shelter as strays, and were not reclaimed by an owner. Garfunkel is losing her sight, thought to be caused by untreated dry eye. Both need dental care. These medical needs were beyond the shelter's resources, so they reached out for help. Of course, we said yes!
