Story
Hi, I’m Gianna and I’m new to the rescue. I am currently decompressing and getting used to my foster family. Check back as my foster family learns more about me! Dog’s Name: Gianna Location: Plano, IL Date of Birth: 04/18/2023 (Approximately) Gender: Female Breed: Presa Canario Color: Brindle Dog's Weight: 85 Gets along with: Dogs?: Per the shelter she was rescued from, yes. Cats?:  Unknown Kids?: Unknown Training: Potty trained: Indicates a need to potty and doesn’t have indoor accidents Car:  Rides Well in car Meet Gianna Gianna is a sweet, resilient young girl estimated to be about 3–4 years old who is just beginning to learn what a safe, stable life looks like. She was found as a stray in Chicago and is smaller in size compared to most dogs of her breed.  She will benefit from gaining some weight to reach a healthier condition. She has been through a lot prior to coming into care, including likely overbreeding.  She has significant extra skin on her belly that will be evaluated for possible surgical options, as it is causing hygiene challenges. At her core, Gianna is very affectionate with people and loves attention. She enjoys being petted and is quickly learning how to relax and accept affection, though she is still figuring out personal space. She is very people-oriented and likes to stay close to her handler, which also makes her recall to come inside and outside quite strong. She is highly food motivated and also enjoys toys, which will be helpful as she continues her training journey. Because of her current hormonal state and reactivity, she has not been fully introduced to other dogs and has shown lunging at gates when seeing them. She is also not yet cat-tested or kid-tested, so slow, controlled introductions will be essential once she is stabilized. She does not currently enjoy going into her crate, but once inside she settles calmly without barking or distress. Gianna is still a work in progress and will thrive with consistency, structure, and gentle guidance. She is learning boundaries, confidence, and how to navigate the world appropriately, and she is already showing that she is smart and food-motivated enough to make progress quickly with the right support. Gianna will do best with an experienced adopter who is comfortable working through training challenges like resource guarding, impulse control, and reactivity. A calm, structured environment with patience and consistency will be key. At this stage, it is still being determined whether she would do best as an only dog or could eventually live with others after proper introductions and stabilization. A fenced yard may be helpful but is not a strict requirement if she has committed leash walks and enrichment. She is likely not ideal for a first-time giant breed owner due to her current behavioral and medical complexities, but she has strong potential with the right guidance and time. Until the profile is removed from the public’s view, this dog is considered available for adoption. To apply to adopt from Just Giants Rescue fill out an online. All approved applications are good for 12 months. Meet and greets can be scheduled with approved adopters. All dogs adopted from Just Giants Rescue are up to date on vaccines (Rabies, DHPP, Bordetella), microchipped, and spayed or neutered. Some exceptions may apply. Story
Hi, I’m Orville.  I am a senior boy looking to relax in a home for my golden years. I will need typical senior care special needs. Dog’s Name: Orville Location: St. Joseph, IL Date of Birth: 06/28/2017 Gender: Male Breed: Mastiff Mix Color: Brindle Dog's Weight: 118 Gets along with: Dogs?: All Dogs Cats?:  All Cats Kids?: Have not tested with kids Training: Leash trained: Walks loose on leash Crate/Kennel:  Goes into crate/kennel on command Potty trained: Indicates a need to potty and doesn’t have indoor accidents Car:  Rides Well in car Meet Orville Orville is the definition of laid-back love. This tall, gentle boy is happiest right by your side — truly your shadow in the very best way. Whether you're moving from room to room or enjoying a quiet afternoon, Orville will calmly stroll along beside you. He’s a pleasure on walks and just as easy in the yard, where he prefers to stay close rather than wander. Orville is wonderfully quiet and only speaks up when it’s time to head outside. His house manners are impeccable — he has his potty routine down perfectly and hasn’t had a single accident in foster care. He politely sits for his food bowl and treats, and at this stage in life, he’s more about companionship than chaos. While he may be a little slower these days, that just makes him an easy keeper and an incredibly devoted companion. Orville is quiet and well mannered, great on walks, fully house trained, does not require a fenced yard, will do well as an only dog or with a calm buddy, and an excellent choice for a first-time giant breed owner. Orville isn’t looking for adventure — he’s looking for connection. If you’re hoping for a steady, gentle presence who will faithfully follow you through life’s simple moments, Orville is ready to be your loyal best friend. She’s playful, curious, goofy, and always ready for her next adventure — especially if toys are involved! In true puppy fashion, Alma can go from sweet and sleepy to full zoomies in a matter of seconds. When meeting new people, Alma can be a little skittish at first and may feel nervous if approached too quickly, but with patience, gentle encouragement, and a few treats, she warms up and wants to be close to her people. Story
Hi, I’m Ernie and I’m ready to find my forever home!  Dog’s Name: Ernie Location: Elmhurst, IL Date of Birth: 04/10/2021 Gender: Male Breed: Daniff Color: Fawn Dog's Weight: 90 Gets along with: Dogs?: All Dogs  Cats?: Unknown Kids?: Unknown Training: Crate Trained - goes to crate/kennel on command  Potty Trained - indicates need to potty and doesn't have indoor accidents  Car - Rides well in the car Meet Ernie! Ernie is a happy, easygoing boy who has settled comfortably into home life and is ready to find his forever family. He is fully potty trained and has great house manners, making him a wonderful companion right from the start. Ernie absolutely loves being petted and spending time with his people—he’s the kind of dog who just wants to be near his humans and soak up all the affection he can get. Ernie is still working on his leash skills, so walks are a work in progress. He does have a bit of a prey drive—especially when it comes to squirrels—so a secure, fenced-in yard is strongly recommended to give him a safe space to run and explore. He’s also continuing to build his confidence and skills with ongoing obedience training, and he’ll benefit from a family committed to helping him keep learning. Because Ernie is still being introduced to other dogs, we’re learning more about his preferences, but thoughtful, proper introductions will be important. His ideal adopter will be patient, consistent, and ready to guide him as he continues to grow. Ernie could be a great match for someone willing to put in a little training while enjoying all the love and companionship he has to offer. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate dog who will happily be your shadow, Ernie might be your perfect match!
