Story
Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Amelia. She is a 6-year-old Pointer with a coat as soft as Velour. Amelia weighs about 50lbs and was found as a stray. Amelia is such a nice gal. She is so typical of her breed. She prances when she runs to greet you in the house. She loves her foster family and has learned to trust them through food. This Angel is always happy, tail wagging the entire time anyone talks to her. Amelia loves her food and would eat until she exploded if you let her. Her food is carefully measured out and she eats it all right away. Amelia doesn't have a sensitive stomach so can handle various types of food brands. She arrived at our Rescue and was very timid. She is has learned to trust more so now because of treats but still is a bit nervous. Amelia has a very gentle nature and though sometimes can be timid, she is not fear aggressive. We were so pleased to see her pointing tendencies when we took her to the conservation park for her photos. She was truly in her element. Amelia enjoys the company of other dogs. She is great with both males and females. When she gets really excited she will initiate a bit of play but a Companion Dog would suit her just fine. Amelia is not a high-energy dog but does require one good run a day as well as a walk. A minimum of one hour of exercise each day will suffice. She would only be able to be in a fenced-in area as she would be gone after birds if off-leash. This breed should be enrolled in obedience training and it is helpful that they are so food motivated. We do not know her history and have no idea if she was used as a hunting dog so her training has been minimal. She is housebroken and paper trained. Amelia does not require a crate, though she eats in one due to the other dogs in the home. This breed is a wonderful family dog, loyal and loving. Due to their strength and very hard wagging tails, toddlers are not recommended. She tolerates the warmer weather better than the cold. She will need a coat during the Fall and Winter months. Her hair coat is short. Amelia is great with strangers, again typical of her breed. She does have a prey drive and is very intelligent. She is a quiet dog in her foster home. She is very alert and were notify her family if anything happens out of the ordinary. Pointers also make great running companions for runners and cyclists. They are naturals at dog sports such as field trials, obedience, and agility. She rides well in a vehicle. The ideal home for Amelia is one that has a family willing to participate in training, obedience classes with her. A family that is keen on taking her for a good run each day and hikes would benefit her disposition. A smaller family unit would suit her well. Another resident dog we believe is a necessity for Amelia as we think she may suffer separation anxiety without one. Amelia is spayed, up to date with vaccines, treated for Heartworm in July, and is now heartworm free, and was on Heartworm Flea Prevention throughout the season. A fully fenced yard, another socialized resident dog, and a Veterinarian History of Compliance are mandatory to apply for Amelia.

Story
Domino is a victim of divorce. Domino is a great dog, he wants a family he can love and protect. Domino is 4 years old, came in from a rescue in Antigua when he was around 2 yrs old. The family had him for 2 years. He has great energy, loves to walk & play but will also relax, not hyper or over active. In last year the family dynamic has changed drastically, there has been a lot of stress in the home. Because of this, Domino's behavior shifted from laid back to being stressed, since he's been here, he is happy and content, listens well. The reality is the family just didn't want to deal with Domino's stress on top of their own. He will need a balanced, happy, stress free home, he thrives for the security of his people loving & praising him. He can have another dog in the home but he is content being the only dog, and can be left alone, would love being a huge part of your family. He's a gentle guy looking for love and just wants to sit by your chair winning your approval.
