Story
LOVES TO BE LOVED DOB 3/19/23 Hey there, everyone! I'm Poncho, a friendly, active, people-loving 19-pound golden wire-coated Portuguese Podengo Pequeno/ Dachshund mix fella who's just loves to be loved. I have the delightful reputation of being "the best snuggler," although I can be initially shy when I first meet people. You see, I was rescued from the care of homeless people who lived under the Beltway 8 freeway. You shouldn't be surprised that I have to be cautious and know that hoomans won't hurt me before I let down my guard. Once I trust you, I'm all yours and ready to exchange love and affection. I get along great with hoomans of all ages -- adults as well as kids -- and other dogs my size. I ignore the resident cats in my foster home. It's hard to determine my exact heritage without a DNA test, but I'll tell you a little what to expect if I have Podengo blood. Podengo means "rabbit hunter" in Portuguese, and that's what we were bred to do. Pequenos are the smallest of the three sizes of Portuguese Podengos. We're lively, playful, alert, highly intelligent, and independent hounds who make excellent family companions. We're tolerant, compliant, and eager to please our family. Loyal, easy-going, and loving, we make strong bonds with our family but can sometimes be suspicious of strangers. I hope that my adorable "scruffy terrier" appearance has caught your attention. If you're looking for a charming companion who relishes positive training and who is excellent at anything you ask me to do, I'm the fella for you! Arrange to meet me today. Let's start writing a new chapter in our lives together today! HOPE ID D24-0914-0036 If you are interested in Poncho and would like to fill out a Dog Adoption Application, please go to: http://www.homelesspets.net/adoption-forms/dog-adoption.php . Submitting an application does not obligate you to adopt from us but it initiates contact with us and gets the process started. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.NO SMALL CHILDREN - 10 YEARS OLD OR OLDERDid someone say Cuddle?  How about treat?  Gryffin is my name!  Yes, I am just this happy and silly.  I am a shy little munchkin.   I love to cuddle and will need another small dog in the house for me to be happy. I am a sweet boy.  I love to play in the yard (must have a fenced yard)  with the other fur kids.  Mom has lots of trees and plants and we play tag all day long.  I love to lay on our pillow in the sun.  Mom works in the yard a lot so we are always watched when we are outside.  We have a doggie door, so along with the big dogs, can come and go as we need to. I  was found with my litter mates in a box next to a dumpster.  Who would do that to us?   We were saved, and given all the love and care a scruffy guy could ever need.   And now, I am  ready to find my forever home!   No small children. If you are interested in meeting me, please apply!  I am only doing private meetings. AARFhouston.org/forms ========================================================= Please contact  app@aarfhouston.org for more information about this dog. You can apply online by clicking on Application . Puppies that are under 4 months old cannot be adopted outside of our Veterinary Service area.  Please call for specific locations. Children under 8 years old often are not a good match for our puppies and dogs.   In order to protect both, your child and our rescued dogs/puppies from harm, we seldom if ever adopt to families with young children. Once your application is approved, we will schedule a meet and greet at one of our adoption events.  Thank you for considering a rescue! The adoption fee includes vaccinations, Bordetella, de-worming, rabies, spay/neuter and microchip. There is a an additional $12.99 fee for Home Again for a lifetime registration of the microchip. Puppies cannot be adopted outside of the Houston area until they are spay/neutered after they are 4 months old. It is against the law in the State of Texas for a rescue not to be sterilized so we have to make sure it gets completed and that we have record of it. NOTE: In our bios, we provide information based on our volunteer's experience with a particular dog; such as temperament, training, and ability to get along with others. AARF is a 501(c)3 Non Profit, all breed, no kill organization. Our group is always in need of donations in order to continue to give the needed medical care to our rescues. Adoption fees do not begin to cover all of the medical costs. Any donation , no matter how small is a big help and is greatly appreciated. Please help us to continue to help them. Thank you. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.NO SMALL CHILDREN - 10 YEARS OLD OR OLDER No trailers or apartmentsGracie shows her super powers. She can climb moving objects like a bird! Gracie loves to cuddle and play.  She loves running in the yard with the other fur kids.  Mom has lots of trees and obstacles in the yard and she can play tag all day long. Her favorite thing is to be on high places.   She will climb on the back of one of her foster siblings so she can reach what she wants to see.     it keeps her precious feet from getting cold. Her perfect family will be one where her brother Gryffin and I will be together to live out their lives.   They play and sleep and need each other - even if sometimes they play fight, they love each other completely.  She will need a fenced yard to play in because she loves to run. Story
Ruby - Chihuahua Mix - Female - 8 Years - www.twyla.org If you'd like to know more about this dog please visit our website at www.Twyla.org Meet Ruby (and her sister Pearl). These cute Chihuahua mix girls have been returned to us  as their owner became very ill and unable to care for them. The girls were very loved and this was a heartbreaking decision formt them, but it was in the best interest for the dogs. They have readjusted really well in their foster home. The girls are about 8 years old and have never been apart and would likely do best staying together. They are active and curious and quite friendly and outgoing, they love to meet new people. They do well with other dogs after proper introduction, we have not observed them around cats though. They are house and crate trained and are still getting the hang of that leash-walking business, but both are smart and learn quickly. Pearl is a little more confident than her sister, Ruby tends to be a bit more snuggly. We have only observed them around older kids, so a family with middle school kids or older would likely be fine. Ruby (and Pearl) is looking for a moderately active home, preferably together with her sister, but at minimum with another dog. They are not used to being alone all day, so someone who is home a lot would be best. ***Please note: All dogs are fostered in private homes of volunteers, so to meet a dog please fill out an Adoption Application on our website (http://www.twyla.org/adopt/our-adoption-process) so we may setup a private meetup with the dog or coordinate for an Introduction at the next general Adoption Meet and Greet (as listed on our website: (http://www.twyla.org/upcoming-events), as not all dogs attend all Meet and Greets***
