Story
Meet Kevin, the 6-month-old Podengo puppy with a name as fitting as his epic energy! True to his sight hound roots, this boy’s got serious “hunt for fun” instincts—whether it’s a toy, a leaf, or the invisible scent of adventure. He’s very smart too, mastering routines faster than you can say, “Who’s a good boy?” (Spoiler: it’s him.) Kevinis the life of the paw-ty! He’s super friendly with people, dogs, and probably your mail carrier too. But be warned—when he needs to go outside, he will let you know… loudly. Think "future lead singer of a rock band" loud. So, he’s best suited for a stand-alone home where his vocals won’t bother the neighbors. As a classic Podengo, Hunter needs plenty of exercise and would love a securely fenced yard where he can zoom around safely. This breed is built for speed, much like a mini greyhound, which means off-leash play in open areas isn’t ideal—they can get going so fast it can be dangerous! Now, about his leash skills… Let’s just say Kevin thinks the leash is for freestyle interpretive dance. Sniffing, zig-zagging, pulling—you name it, he’s doing it. But hey, with his brains, he’ll get the hang of it in no time (especially if treats are involved). Kevin is ready for an active home where he can be your adventure buddy, cuddle champion, and occasional loudmouth. If you’re looking for a hilarious, lovable, high-energy pup who’s ready to be your new best friend, Kevin's your guy! The adoption fee is $500. Like Broken Tail Rescue on Facebook!. Follow Broken Tail Rescue on Instagram! Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.

Story
Some dogs are naturally timid or shy, while others may not have learned to trust people while they were young. These dogs need to feel safe before they will interact with people; the work to build a relationship of trust could be a long and hard one but the experience can be one of the most rewarding of dog ownership. Chicken Little Dogs: are fearful of new people and places, take time to trust, shut down here at the shelter, and **WILL BITE if people push or try to interact too quickly**. However, once they trust a person, they often become very bonded.OTHER PETS: Papito keeps to himself around other dogs he's met so far and would do best with a calm companion.likely[Must Meet First]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Papito is everything you could imagine when you think of a `spicy` chihuahua! He might be little, but he's got some big opinions, and he'll make sure that he's heard. He is very clear with his preferences and would do best with someone that has the experience and current knowledge to understand his body language and respect his boundaries. Once he's comfortable with his people, though, he's very willing to ask for and receive attention. [Experienced]KIDS: Because Papito is so nervous and may feel the need to defend himself if pushed too far too quickly, he is not likely to do well around kids. He would be happiest and do best in a quiet, adult-only home. [Adults Only]ACTIVITY LEVEL: While he may not seem like it at first, Papito is a lap dog. He loves to cuddle in and will whine when he wants to be picked up. He has some interest in squeaky toys, but is much more interested in people. [Couch Potato]VETERINARY CARE: Papito is currently in need of a dental, but aside from that his medical care is expected to be routine. [Routine]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Papito will need very slow introductions with strangers in the future, and may benefit working with a certified positive reinforcement behavior consultant. He is still at the beginning of his positive training journey, and will do best learning with someone who can offer patience as he adjusts and builds confidence. Positive reinforcement training will help Papito not only learn basic skills, but also help him to feel more comfortable and confident in himself! It will provide a good opportunity for him to bond with his new owner as well. [Moderate] GROOMING: [Minimal]March 8, 2025, 3:46 pm
