Story
Meet Spruce, a handsome 2-3 year old neutered male chihuahua! Spruce was rescued from a hoarding case in east TN, and he and 9 other chihuahuas (several of which were pregnant) were taken in by Paws Rescue League. He spent over a month in his TN foster home decompressing and learning to trust people, and he is now doing the same in his New England foster home.
Spruce is a timid, nervous boy and takes a little time to warm up to new people, so he will need someone who is patient and gentle with him, and who will work with him on continued socialization. Once you earn his trust, he is a very sweet boy!
He is good with other dogs, not cat tested but we assume he would be fine with cats. Due to his shyness, we recommend older kids 8+ who know to respect a dog's space.
From Spruce's current foster:
"I’m noticing a bit of separation anxiety, but aside from that, given his personality, he would be a great dog for someone who is home often, and who wants a chill companion who is their constant shadow. He has “purse-dog” written all over him. "
Spruce is medically up to date, pee pad trained, and working on outdoor housebreaking. Apply to meet this special boy today!

Adoption fees vary based on the dog and are not negotiable. As a small rescue that does not receive government funding or grants, we rely on adoption fees to stay afloat. Adoption fees help cover the following: vaccinations, wellness exams, heartworm/4DX testing, parasite prevention, spay/neuter (age-appropriate), microchipping, transport expenses, and other rescue-related overhead/administrative costs. Paws Rescue League, Inc is an all-inclusive rescue that does NOT only rescue puppies and young, healthy dogs. We make a point to also rescue seniors, dogs with special needs, moms, and other “less desirable” dogs, knowing that we will likely incur higher veterinary expenses and that these dogs may take longer to get adopted. As such, an individual adoption fee is not only reimbursing PRL for expenses directly related to that dog, but it is also helping us to continue our mission of taking in dogs that would otherwise be too much of a financial burden to save. We believe that ALL dogs deserve a second chance. Thank you for your support and understanding!
