Story
Rowan is a good girl who was adopted from us in 2020 and found lost this year. She appeared in great health but we could not find owners. Rowan gets along with all dogs, walks great on leash, and is showing great house manners in her foster home.

Story
Meet Shelli, an adult Plott Hound mix who's as sweet as she is smart. With a curious mind and a shy demeanor, she's always eager to learn new things. Shelli's energetic spirit shines through during playtime, where she loves to explore and engage in fun activities. Despite her shyness, Shelli's sweetness is undeniable, making her an endearing companion. Her intelligence is evident in her quick learning and problem-solving skills. Shelli is a wonderful dog who deserves a loving home where she can continue to grow, learn, and love. Her adoption will bring a world of joy, love, and smart companionship to any family. Shelli is a 1 - 2 yr old female Plott Hound mix. She has a high energy level, so she would benefit from an active home with a fenced yard and plenty of space for daily exercise and play. She does moderately pull on a leash, but with basic obedience training, she should be walking like a champ in no time! Shelli is food motivated and knows the command sit. She mixes well with other dogs in a kennel, but is afraid of cats in the shelter environment. Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their own size; and dog meets with the resident dogs are always encouraged. Our cat test should be used as a general-purpose screening only to rule out overt aggression; we always recommend caution when introducing dogs to cats in the home. Recommendation on suitability of placement with children by their ages is based on behavioral observations including energy level and response to body handling. We never recommend leaving young children unsupervised with dogs, and we cannot guarantee the behavior of dogs with children, other pets, or cats. Behavior evaluations should be considered as a snapshot of the behavior of the dog at this point in time; JHS believes all dog families need to be prepared to invest time and energy into training as well as provide common sense management of their new dog. We always encourage family to do some research on the breeds or mixes of breeds prior to adoption as many can have some unique characteristics that may or may not fit into their families. Always remember that the majority of dogs at our shelter have been exposed to or may have kennel cough. Kennel cough is contagious to other dogs, please talk to your vet if you have any questions about kennel cough prior to adoption. Please ask your adoption counselor at time of adoption if you have any unanswered questions regarding illnesses and treatments of the pet that you are adopting. Story
Hello there, I'm Cletus. I was found roaming. I will be on a 5 day stray hold until 9/30 in case my owners come forward. I'm around 10 years old and look to be a Plott Hound/Heeler mix but the shelter doesn't know for sure. I've been around the block a few times, seen a thing or two. I'm an old soul, calm as a summer breeze. I enjoy slow walks, sunbathing, and a good belly rub. I'm all about companionship and taking it easy. I'm a friend who'll be by your side, a steady presence to brighten your days. If you're looking for a faithful friend with a gentle spirit, I'm your guy. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2188498##
