Story
Meet Trace 💙 Trace is a small terrier mix with the softest eyes and a heart that’s learning how to feel safe. He was rescued from a hoarding situation, and right now he’s still very much in his decompression phase. The world can feel overwhelming, but every single day he shows us a little more of who he’s meant to be. Trace feels safest in a lap or curled up in the recliner, where he happily accepts pets and quiet affection. When people are standing or approaching him, he may pancake to the floor or retreat to his crate — that’s his way of saying he’s still figuring things out. With time, patience, and kindness, he continues to make steady progress. He’s very food‑motivated (treats are the way to his heart!) and will bravely come over for snacks or coaxing, especially when following the lead of his brother, whom he loves to cuddle with. While he often takes comfort in his sibling, Trace also shows a bit of independence and enjoys doing his own thing from time to time. Potty training is a work in progress, as he’s currently too nervous to go outside comfortably. Belly bands and puppy pads are helping him succeed while he builds confidence. He also has some matting that we’re giving him time on before brushing — right now, emotional comfort comes first. Trace does wonderfully with large dogs and doesn’t seem bothered by them at all. Most of his days are spent relaxing, observing, and quietly bonding with his person. He’s going to need a patient, understanding adopter who will let him move at his own pace — someone who understands that trust is earned softly and slowly. With time, love, and continued decompression, Trace has all the potential to truly shine. If you’re the kind of person who believes the most special dogs are the ones you help blossom, Trace might be your perfect match. 💫🐾
