Story
Hello, my name is Penelope and I,m a tan mountain cur mix. I was running around lost and this nice man picked me up and brought me here, thank you mister, I feel a whole lot safer.  I am 2 years old and still have oodles of life left in me.  I pray to have someone come and get me and take me to my forever home, maybe that could be you!  I will make a wonderful companion for you and your family.  I will be faithful, loyal but most of all I will give you all my love.  Please come in and check me out or you can look me and all the other animals that need good, safe, loving homes on their web site.   If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2155017##

Story
Melon's estimated DOB is 07/19/2021 and he's a brindle Boxer. He came to the Haven of the Ozarks with another dog by the name of Cantaloupe. They are two very shy, reserved pups that were found roaming a neighborhood. We later found out that their owner had passed away and that's why they were out roaming, probably in search of food and water. But lucky for them they picked the perfect neighborhood to seek out their basic needs because once everyone noticed them, they all came together and began putting out food, water and trying to gain their trust. This process took about two months because these two caught on to what people were trying to do and would not go into traps, they had set for them so they could get them to us so we could help these sweet pups try and understand that not all people are bad and that we just wanted to help. We at the Haven of the Ozarks believe that with a lot of time, basic training and patience that these two sweeties can grow to trust someone and be able to eventually live the happy healthy life's they deserve. We think that it would need to be someone that is willing to come out for a few days and spend time with them in their kennel and shower them with treats and love to gain trust before they went home just to make the transition from our shelter to a home easier on them. We've recently brought both pups into the office to hang out and Melon warms up much more quickly than his sister. All of our pets are fixed, up to date on their vaccinations, and microchipped. The Haven of the Ozarks is open form 9am-4pm, seven days a week. For more information, please email us at havenozarksanctuary@gmail.com, or give us a call at 417-835-3647.

Story
Alexander is a handsome 7-year-old Catahoula Leopard Dog mix. We originally rescued him as a baby in 2017, and he found a wonderful home shortly after! Sadly, 5 years later, his owner`s health declined and he was brought back to us. Alex was so well-loved and treated like a little prince. He is a pro at eating treats and making his people laugh. He is shy with new people and will take some time to warm up. Once he does, he is very loyal! He is house-trained and has a huge heart he`s ready to share. The only thing Alexander asks for in his future home is that he be your one and only baby. He was so happy in his previous home as the only child that he craves all the attention for himself. We promise he will give you so much love back! He is missing the feeling of having a home and would love to find one again. Can you help make Alexander`s dream of a home come true?

Story
As a 2-year-old Catahoula mix, Nikko’s got loads of energy and will make a fun companion! He is protective of his people and skeptical of strangers. We know there is a place for him to reach his full potential and live his best life! He is sweet with the people he trusts and is a precious angel baby who leans into you, loves neck and chest scratches, and will look deep in your eyes. He does great with other dogs and even goes to our play groups! He would do best in a home with no children, as he is already nervous with new people. He is very loyal to his people and will make a wonderful companion for someone willing to put in the work to win his heart!
