Story
Say hello to Jorah! We guess him to be a Mountain Cur or Plott Hound mix. He is another one of our Forget-Me-Nots. He was abandoned on farmland with his sister, so when the farmer was able to catch them both, they were brought to us. Both were in pretty rough shape, but with proper care their coats filled in nicely. It takes a bit of time for Jorah to trust strangers, but once he picks a person, he bonds hard to that person. He can tolerate the company of other dogs. He was adopted once and returned when he couldn't handle being alone for extended periods of time. He really is a sweet guy and loves attention and affection. He just needs the opportunity to bond. Also, Jorah is very trainable and knows some commands. Jorah needs to be the ONLY ANIMAL IN THE HOME. He is best suited for a single person, living alone. If you think you can manage a dog that bonds very strongly to the only person in the home, Jorah might just be the dog for you. Primary Color: Brindle Secondary Color: Black Weight: 56.4 Age: 5yrs 10mths 0wks

Story
Meet Korra, an adult Mountain Cur with a heart full of joy. Her energy is contagious, filling every room with laughter as she playfully chases her tail or a squeaky toy. She's sweet and friendly, always ready to greet you with a wagging tail and eager eyes. But don't be fooled by her playful nature, Korra also loves her cuddle time. She's a bit shy, but once she warms up to you, she'll be your loyal companion. Korra's perfect day includes a game of fetch, a long walk, and a cozy nap on a comfy couch. She's looking for a loving family who can match her energy and provide her with the affection she craves. With her loving nature and playful spirit, Korra is sure to bring happiness and warmth into any home. Adopt Korra and let her fill your life with joy, companionship, and unconditional love. Korra is a 1 - 2 yr old female Mountain Cur. She has a high energy level, so she would benefit from an active family with a fenced yard and plenty of space for daily exercise and play. She does moderately pull on a leash, but with basic obedience training, she should be walking like a champ in no time! Korra is food motivated, but does not yet know any commands. She mixes well with other dogs in a kennel, but is afraid of cats in the shelter environment. Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their own size; and dog meets with the resident dogs are always encouraged. Our cat test should be used as a general-purpose screening only to rule out overt aggression; we always recommend caution when introducing dogs to cats in the home. Recommendation on suitability of placement with children by their ages is based on behavioral observations including energy level and response to body handling. We never recommend leaving young children unsupervised with dogs, and we cannot guarantee the behavior of dogs with children, other pets, or cats. Behavior evaluations should be considered as a snapshot of the behavior of the dog at this point in time; JHS believes all dog families need to be prepared to invest time and energy into training as well as provide common sense management of their new dog. We always encourage family to do some research on the breeds or mixes of breeds prior to adoption as many can have some unique characteristics that may or may not fit into their families. Always remember that the majority of dogs at our shelter have been exposed to or may have kennel cough. Kennel cough is contagious to other dogs, please talk to your vet if you have any questions about kennel cough prior to adoption. Please ask your adoption counselor at time of adoption if you have any unanswered questions regarding illnesses and treatments of the pet that you are adopting. For more information about this dog or any others at our Shelter, please visit www.joplinhumane.org. We are the Joplin Humane Society in Joplin, Missouri. 417-623-3642.

Cinna- If you're wanting a loyal companion that is active and a cuddle-bug, look no further. Cinna is a 4 year old Mountain Cur, spayed, and fully vaccinated. She is crate trained, knows basic commands, and would be happy to join in your next hike or run beside the UTV. Cinna does well with dogs of any size, but cats are not her friends. She is ready for an active partner or family to share in all of her shenanigans and provide her with belly rubs at the end of the day.

Story
Melon's estimated DOB is 07/19/2021 and he's a brindle Boxer. He came to the Haven of the Ozarks with another dog by the name of Cantaloupe. They are two very shy, reserved pups that were found roaming a neighborhood. We later found out that their owner had passed away and that's why they were out roaming, probably in search of food and water. But lucky for them they picked the perfect neighborhood to seek out their basic needs because once everyone noticed them, they all came together and began putting out food, water and trying to gain their trust. This process took about two months because these two caught on to what people were trying to do and would not go into traps, they had set for them so they could get them to us so we could help these sweet pups try and understand that not all people are bad and that we just wanted to help. We at the Haven of the Ozarks believe that with a lot of time, basic training and patience that these two sweeties can grow to trust someone and be able to eventually live the happy healthy life's they deserve. We think that it would need to be someone that is willing to come out for a few days and spend time with them in their kennel and shower them with treats and love to gain trust before they went home just to make the transition from our shelter to a home easier on them. We've recently brought both pups into the office to hang out and Melon warms up much more quickly than his sister. All of our pets are fixed, up to date on their vaccinations, and microchipped. The Haven of the Ozarks is open form 9am-4pm, seven days a week. For more information, please email us at havenozarksanctuary@gmail.com, or give us a call at 417-835-3647.
