Story
Meet Jaeger, an almost 4-year-old Mountain Cur mix who is eagerly searching for a loving forever home. Jaeger's life began as an outside dog, surrendered to us due to no fault of his own. His previous family had to move and felt that he wouldn't be happy in their new home. Jaeger has been waiting for a long time in search of his forever family, as he originally came to our shelter in summer of 2020. It does take a little work to win him over, but once you do, he will certainly be your buddy for life! Once he establishes a connection with his human, he will go above and beyond to show his unwavering devotion. In his time with us, Jaeger has graduated the Puppies for Parole program through our partnering correctional center. From his handler we learned Jaeger is very intelligent, easily trained, and highly food motivated. Through his opportunity with P4P, he has been house trained, crate trained, taught basic obedience, and started on home manners! We also learned from his handler that when it comes to favorite pastimes, cuddle sessions take the top spot for Jaeger. He has certainly come a long way from being someone's forgotten farm dog! Here at the shelter, Jaeger goes out in a playgroup with other dogs, but it should be noted that he is the dominant one. By providing him with a loving home, you will witness the transformation of a wary dog into a devoted and affectionate family member. Story
Say hello to Jorah! We guess him to be a Mountain Cur or Plott Hound mix. He is another one of our Forget-Me-Nots. He was abandoned on farmland with his sister, so when the farmer was able to catch them both, they were brought to us. Both were in pretty rough shape, but with proper care their coats filled in nicely. It takes a bit of time for Jorah to trust strangers, but then, he loves everyone. He likes the company of other dogs! He seems more secure when he isn't the only one. In his time with us, Jorah has actually gotten really close with another long-timer, named Ray. They go out in play group together and do really well! Jorah was adopted once, but was returned when he couldn't handle being alone much of the time. He was described as too clingy. We think that if he had another dog around, he'd be happier. He really is a sweet guy and loves attention and affection. He just needs the opportunity to bond. Also, Jorah is very trainable and knows some commands. If you are interested in adopting Jorah, please stop for a visit! Primary Color: Brindle Secondary Color: Black Weight: 59 Age: 5yrs 8mths 2wks

Story
Hello, my name is Penelope and I,m a tan mountain cur mix. I was running around lost and this nice man picked me up and brought me here, thank you mister, I feel a whole lot safer.  I am 2 years old and still have oodles of life left in me.  I pray to have someone come and get me and take me to my forever home, maybe that could be you!  I will make a wonderful companion for you and your family.  I will be faithful, loyal but most of all I will give you all my love.  Please come in and check me out or you can look me and all the other animals that need good, safe, loving homes on their web site.   If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2155017##

Story
Cinna- If you're wanting a loyal companion that is active and a cuddle-bug, look no further. Cinna is a 4 year old Mountain Cur, spayed, and fully vaccinated. She is crate trained, knows basic commands, and would be happy to join in your next hike or run beside the UTV. Cinna does well with dogs of any size, but cats are not her friends. She is ready for an active partner or family to share in all of her shenanigans and provide her with belly rubs at the end of the day.
