Story
Meet Appa, a charming Mountain Cur with a heart full of love. Appa's personality is a delightful blend of playful energy and sweet gentleness. He's a smart fellow, always eager to learn new tricks and commands. His playful nature is contagious, filling the room with laughter as he frolics around. Yet, he's also a cuddly companion, always ready for a warm snuggle. His goofy antics are sure to brighten up even the gloomiest of days. Appa's intelligence and energy make him an ideal companion for active individuals or families. His sweet nature and cuddly tendencies mean he's also a perfect fit for those seeking a comforting presence. Adopt Appa, and let his joyful spirit fill your home with love and laughter. Appa is a 2 - 3 yr old male Mountain Cur. He has a high energy level, so he would benefit from an active family with a fenced yard and plenty of space for daily exercise and play. He does moderately pull on a leash, but with basic obedience training, he should be walking like a champ in no time! Appa is food motivated, but does not yet know any commands. He mixes well with other dogs in a kennel, but is intensely interested in cats in the shelter environment. Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their own size; and dog meets with the resident dogs are always encouraged. Our cat test should be used as a general-purpose screening only to rule out overt aggression; we always recommend caution when introducing dogs to cats in the home. Recommendation on suitability of placement with children by their ages is based on behavioral observations including energy level and response to body handling. We never recommend leaving young children unsupervised with dogs, and we cannot guarantee the behavior of dogs with children, other pets, or cats. Behavior evaluations should be considered as a snapshot of the behavior of the dog at this point in time; JHS believes all dog families need to be prepared to invest time and energy into training as well as provide common sense management of their new dog. We always encourage family to do some research on the breeds or mixes of breeds prior to adoption as many can have some unique characteristics that may or may not fit into their families. Always remember that the majority of dogs at our shelter have been exposed to or may have kennel cough. Kennel cough is contagious to other dogs, please talk to your vet if you have any questions about kennel cough prior to adoption. Please ask your adoption counselor at time of adoption if you have any unanswered questions regarding illnesses and treatments of the pet that you are adopting. Story
Melon's estimated DOB is 07/19/2021 and he's a brindle Boxer. He came to the Haven of the Ozarks with another dog by the name of Cantaloupe. They are two very shy, reserved pups that were found roaming a neighborhood. We later found out that their owner had passed away and that's why they were out roaming, probably in search of food and water. But lucky for them they picked the perfect neighborhood to seek out their basic needs because once everyone noticed them, they all came together and began putting out food, water and trying to gain their trust. This process took about two months because these two caught on to what people were trying to do and would not go into traps, they had set for them so they could get them to us so we could help these sweet pups try and understand that not all people are bad and that we just wanted to help. We at the Haven of the Ozarks believe that with a lot of time, basic training and patience that these two sweeties can grow to trust someone and be able to eventually live the happy healthy life's they deserve. We think that it would need to be someone that is willing to come out for a few days and spend time with them in their kennel and shower them with treats and love to gain trust before they went home just to make the transition from our shelter to a home easier on them. We've recently brought both pups into the office to hang out and Melon warms up much more quickly than his sister. All of our pets are fixed, up to date on their vaccinations, and microchipped. The Haven of the Ozarks is open form 9am-4pm, seven days a week. For more information, please email us at havenozarksanctuary@gmail.com, or give us a call at 417-835-3647.
