Story
Please read our adoption policies BEFORE inquiring to adopt a pet. If you wish to meet a pet shown here, please submit a letter of introduction via email to Idahocoondog@yahoo.com describing the home you can provide. Please include such things as if you own or rent and what type of fencing you have. If no fencing include acreage. Also describe other pets and children in the home . Check your spam folder for replies. Keep in mind, we are two women with full time jobs, we volunteer to run this Rescue and foster these dogs in our homes. We have families and farms of our own we take care of as well. We will give you all the time we can but, ask for your patience and attention to detail to make the application process flow smoothly and as quickly as possible. Baxter is a 1 1/2 yr old purebred Frenchie. He was our bases as a 6 month old pup from a local North Idaho breeder. When his family could no longer tolerate his anxieties, they surrendered him to jam he's spent the last 3 weeks in a board and train setting. We will be seeking a VERY SPECIFIC home for Baxter after this assessment. Baxter is a very smart, loving litte guy. He loves everyone around him, especially kids. He definitely likes having his own person and wants to be with them all the time. Likes cats but can be a little to much when first meeting them. Plays well with big dogs and small dogs. Wouldn't recommend him being around chickens he likes to chase. Walks very well on a leash and loves car rides. Knows how to sit and stay. That's the "good". The bad is he suffers from a high level of separation anxiety as well as claustrophobia. He is quite destructive when left alone and has panic attacks when crated. This most often is a result of someone not knowing what they are doing in the early months of a dogs life training. You must NEVER use a crate for punishment. It should only ever be a safe place of comfort and relaxation. We suspect Baxter was punished for his naughty destructive behavior by being crated for unreasonable amounts of time. He has a strong fear of being crated and despite the trainers best efforts to be introduced to the crate, it was unsuccessful. After consulting with our vet, she suggests a calming tonic or CBD gummy to help if pursuing crating is necessary in his new home. If left behind a baby gate in, say the laundry room, he will chew and scratch the door trim destructively. That being said, we are seeking a home with someone who can have him with them 99% of the time. A retired person(s) who leave home very little and if they do, can take him with them. Hopefully with visiting young grandchildren, as he is CRAZY happy around kids. OR a homeschooled family, again, where (everyone) leaving home is a rare occurrence and he could accompany you on these excursions. Lastly, maybe someone who works from home or has a dog friendly workplace. His manners in public are impeccable. He's never met a stranger and is great with other pets. He also has sensitive skin, and requires a high quality sensitive skin/tummy formula dog food. Most of the super premium brands make one. He is very housebroke and prefers to sleep in bed with his human. And on that note, his last "bad"... If he gets upset with you for leaving him home alone, he WILL seek out YOUR bed and urinate on it. Right in the middle. That's the ONLY time he does it. We recommend keeping all bedroom doors shut when not in use. It's a very specific, and unusual quirk. This is a "different" breed and people love them or whatever them... There's very little middle ground. Baxter is the kindest, most devoted, loving, little dog. I can see why people are drawn to them. I wish he'd had a better, more responsible breeder and a better start to life... But it is what it is and he is who he is!
