This sweet girl lost her family when they moved and were not able to bring her. She stayed with her owner's friends until they found a safe place for her with GPMR. She was born in December 2022.Sushi is a sweetie! With other dogs, she is scared at first meeting them. She would not be a good candidate for people who want a dog park dog or have dogs constantly visiting the home. She needs consistency and structre as well as slow and gradual introductions to new dogs. After some decompression time, she is best buds with the dog in her foster home and they play all the time! Sushi also does well at reading and responding to cues when playing, or gentle correcting if it’s too rough. Sushi is a bit unsure around new people, but has not shown aggression, She retreats to her kennel or to her fosters upon meeting someone new. This hopefully will get better in time but in case, she would do best in a home that doesn't constantly have visitors coming and going. She is crate trained and sleeps in her kennel at night with no issue, and is trusted inside with free roam. Sushi has a high prey drive and goes after rabbits outside and tries to chase cars when they pass (she is behind the chainlink fence so she can't get to them but can see them), so she definitely needs supervision outside. A securely fenced yard is a must for her. She likely would not do well with cats or tiny/small breed dogs given her prey drive. She is a heavy chewer but has not been destructive, she just needs age and size appropriate toys. Sushi is good with her fosters 2 kids, ages 5 years and 7 months. She is big and goofy but understands being gentle around them. She is food motivated and that has helped in crate training her. Sushi can shake and sit and is very smart. She is housebroken and has had no accidents. They are working on some manners related to counter-surfing - but again, she's food motivated so that's to be expected. Sushi loves to snuggle! She does need play/exercise time but she usually plays for about 20-30 minutes then rests for a couple of hours, so even being young and energetic, she's pretty chill for a puppy. True to the breed, she can be stubborn. They’re working on recall with her and she's consistently responsive to the foster Dad, but a bit more stubborn with her foster Mom, though she is improving. With a little patience and recognition of her age and traits that are typical for the breed, she'll be a wonderful companion to the family who adopts her. She is a dog that will require a family who provides her with proper decompression time and slow gradual introductions. The rehoming process was stressful for her and she was not very accepting of the resident dog at first. However with some patience and slow introductions, they are best buddies now. She would do best with a playful dog who has an outgoing personality. Overall, she really is a sweetheart and a great dog! Sushi is being fostered in Conway, AR. Cash is a super sweet male (born 1.3.24) who was an owner surrender to a shelter in South Texas for financial reasons. The owner said he is a Dou-bull Mastiff, which is supposedly a cross between an English Mastiff and Bullmastiff. We see the English Mastiff in him and he’s still a growing puppy, so maybe the Bull Mastiff will be more evident as he gets older and fills out. But so far we're not seeing it. He currently weighs about 100 lbs and will likely be around 110 lbs when full grown. Cash takes to a crate beautifully. In fact, we think he might have spent a lot of his life in a crate because he is just now learning to be a puppy and part of a family. New people, new situations and new dogs are a bit scary for him at first, but he does warm up quickly. We’ve learned to take things slowly for him. Once he learns new people, he gets attached quickly to his family, and loves being around his people. He is enjoying playing with his 4-legged foster brother (they really play hard with each other but they both love it) and is very affectionate with his foster parents and other family members who visit that he’s grown to know. He would do best in a home with a confident and friendly dog as he definitely takes cues from his foster brother in that regard.Cash is learning to walk on a leash and seems to enjoy car rides but new places like vet offices make him nervous. He loves toys, treats, dinner time and bones. He loves soft toys a bit too much - we stopped giving those to him after pieces of them would disappear. He’s still a puppy that likes to chew, so we’ve learned that bones and Kong-type toys work best for him. He knows what “crate up” means and is learning to sit and shake. He is neutered and ready for a new family that will continue to be patient in training him and teaching him new things and what a life with a loving family is all about. He would do best in a home with no kids and no cats or small dogs as he likes to chase small animals. A quiet home without a lot of people coming and going is recommended. This boy was surrendered by his owner when they were moving and could not take him. He was born in April of 2022 and weighs about 160 lbs. He is current on his vet care and appears to be a healthy boy! The stress of the rehoming from him owner to us was difficult for him. His previous owner did not socialize Winston at all, and so this change was hard on him. His foster Dad had to figure out his needs/wants and adjust. He growled a little the first couple of days. Now that he has become comfortable, there are no issues. Has become a very sweet boy. He needs to be given space and going slow with him will be extremely important. This decompression time is going to be crucial when he gets adopted. Given time he warms up to you very well. Slow proper introduction is needed as quick movements toward him are scary and he can be reactive when scared. He needs a quiet, adult only, rescue-Mastiff experienced home without a lot of visitors coming and going. We haven’t fully evaluated him yet with other dogs and cats. He accidentally came nose to nose with a cat on a walk. There was no reaction, just curiosity. When seeing other dogs, he wants to meet them but doesn’t pull or bark. He has met a couple of dogs through a fence and just seems really curious. If he gets excited he can be diverted easily as he accepts corrections well. We will be working with a trainer on dog introductions soon. Unfortunately, he had minimal training when he came to us. He is having to learn to walk on a leash and is doing well. He will not get far from you when off leash. He will keep coming back to you on his own to make sure you are ok. Every day he is improving. Inside he is a counter surfer and we are working on this. He is housebroken and has never had an accident and does very well with free roam. He is crate-trained and his foster Dad has taught him sit, down, recall, leave it and wait. He can be guardy of his food and will need a separate quiet space for him when eating. He is a dog that needs a job. He loves playing puzzle games, tug with rope and picking a toy out of his toybox. He also loves to slobber over something that has my scent on it and keep it near such as an old shoe or shirt. He doesn’t chew it, just keeps it by hisside. When not napping he does need a purpose. He is curious, smart and silly. So keeping the brain busy is important to a successful adoption. At night he guards the house. He will alert to strangers outside the home and definitely has the guard dog mentality. He is protective of his human. He does not like the sound of lawn mowers and will bark. He doesn’t appear to have any other noise fears. During the fireworks on New Years Eve he had no reaction. We went outside briefly during the sounds and he didn’t appear to even be aware of the sounds. Winston loves to lay beside the sofa or head in your lap and asks for belly rubs. He does love car rides and loves them even more if he gets a pup cup! He has become a wonderful silly dog who loves to play with you as much as possible. He really shines outdoors, loves walks, and loves to play with his favorite toy (which happens to be a food bowl that came with him!). We have not witnessed any stranger danger outside the home. He is possessive/protective inside his home, so he will need to meet people outside the home before coming in. Winston’s adopter will need to agree to hire a trainer to help work him through his adjustment period.Winston is being fostered in Abilene, TX.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Save a Mastiff...Adopt, Foster, Volunteer!January 12, 2025, 5:44 pm

This girl was found as a stray in TX and taken to a local shelter. When no owner came forward for her and at risk for euthanasia, she was transferred to GPMR. At 90 lbs she's underweight and should be closer to 120 lbs. The shelter did a good job getting some weight on her and we'll continue that while she's with us. We are estimating her age around 3 years old. Dolly has been reported as very friendly with people and the limited interaction we've seen of her with other dogs, she appears to be dog friendly too. She is spayed and tested negative for heartworms and appears to be healthy! Dolly is very new and we're still getting to know her so please check back for more updates!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Save a Mastiff...Adopt, Foster, Volunteer!January 20, 2025, 4:22 pm

This girl was found wandering and taken to a local shelter. She was there for a couple of weeks but no owner was located and no one came forward to claim her. They reached out for rescue assistance and thankfully we had a wonderful foster step up and save her life! She was underweight when she came in but is eating great and filling out nicely.Abbey is very friendly and like many Mastiffs, is velcro and likes to be with her people. Her foster mom reports she is an easy keeper, well mannered and does great with the other dog and the cats in the home. She is able to free roam when home alone. She doesn't get on the furniture, and typically prefers to be on the dog bed on the floor or in a crate. Abbey is very wary of strangers and startle easily when in new situations like out on walks. When trying to take her on walks in the neighborhood, if she gets scared she bolts away. So she's a dog who would need more training and socialization for a family who is wanting to take her out on walks. She will run away from people that she doesn't know until she feels safe with them. She's good at protecting her home and will bark if she hears someone outside or on the door. No one will sneak up to a house with Abbey in it! Like many of our dogs, Abbey tested positive for heartworms but finished her treatment and will be ready for adoption early February!
