I’m Wall-E and I want to share my story. I was born just before Christmas in 2019 and adopted into a seemingly nice family through A Little R&R Animal Sanctuary in 2020. After I was adopted, my family decided to get me a little/big brother and bought a Great Dane through a breeder. We got along okay, but he had some issues. My family reached out for training help, but it didn’t go well and my brother ended up biting someone and being rehomed. After that, I started struggling with my back legs. The vet said I have something called Degenerative Myelopathy which is similar to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig's disease, in humans. Then, this summer, I was relaxing inside and a child came into my house and grabbed my face for a kiss. I was so surprised that I accidentally bit him. I didn’t mean it, I just got startled and reacted. To make matters worse, I wasn’t up-to-date on my vaccines so I had to be boarded at the vet's office for 10 whole days! I don’t understand why but my family asked the vet to euthanize me on day 10. I was so scared! Luckily, the rescue stepped in to keep that from happening. And I got to meet a really nice trainer named Tim at Wagging Rights Dog Training and he said I LOVE humans and just want to love and be loved. Which is true! I know I’m a big boy (140 lbs.!), but I just want to sit in your lap and be as close to you as possible. I am wobbly and can’t get in and out of the car by myself. It’s also hard for me to stand while I eat. I’m a little weak BUT the rescue had the vet check me out and my bloodwork was amazing! My x-rays show perfect hips and a majority of my spine is clean. The vet said I’m overall pretty healthy! I will need something called advanced imaging in the next 2-3 years but overall I’m doing well. I have some mild stenosis in my lower lumbar which is most likely causing the nerve issues down my legs. Some nice people at a place called The Puddle might even help me get some water therapy! Because I don’t feel good, I get uneasy around other dogs. But I don’t mind cats! I also prefer older kids rather than young ones. I really need a forever home where I can just chill and be loved. No other dogs, please. I’m hanging out at Hampshire Pet Resort right now with a really nice guy named Rob who is keeping me happy and safe for now but I need to be in an actual home environment soon. I’m a big, lovable, happy, sweet, teddy bear and so deserving of a happy ending after being dealt a bad hand. Could it be with you?
We always recommend crate training, positive reinforcement training, exercise, playtime, and a regular schedule for potty breaks when bringing a new dog/puppy into your home.
