Story
Meet Squishy Teddy, He's an 11 pound, 6 year old neutered male terrier / poodle / maltese mix of sorts who is a whole bunch of cuteness. Teddy was at the shelter and was a skinny, matted boy who was shutting down in the loud environment, but loved when he received attention from the staff. When he arrived to our rescue we took him to the vet and ran blood work and found his kidney levels were off so he had a diagnostic Urinalysis which came back positive for infection. Who knows how long he had this infection, but it was long enough to damage his kidneys at a stage one level. We have since tested him and while the UTI is gone, his kidneys aren't back to normal. We will test him again in 4 months to check his levels. In the meantime he eats a special kidney food and that's all he needs at this time along with regular check ups. His kidneys may improve or may not. It's an unknown, kind of like life! Teddy is a super sweet guy with a very gentle disposition who loves to cuddle, go on walks, play ball, & eat treats. He's very food motivated & I know a bunch of commands like sit, shake, & come of which of course you will reward Teddy with a treat! He even sometimes walks on his hind legs & does a spin while doing so, and it was not on command, he just did it on his own! Teddy would do best in a house that is just him and his people as this is when his personality truly shines. He does live with other dogs in foster and has been around other dogs. However, he can be slow to engage but will play once he gets to know the other dog. Teddy is very playful and loves ball type toys...and socks. If you tend to leave mystery socks around the house he will find them and squirrel them away to his bed. Teddy also loves to just curl up with his people and has a very gentle soul. He does enjoy going for walks but does do a lot of pulling at the beginning being so excited to explore his surroundings. Teddy and his human would benefit from leash training. As for cats he does live with a dog savvy cat in foster that he has been fascinated by. If he lives in a home with a cat ideally that cat would want to engage him with play. Otherwise, the fixation Teddy would have on a cat friend would likely make them uncomfortable. Teddy was likely let down in his past by humans so he will be shy when meeting new people but once he has warmed up and feels comfortable and safe he will be hopelessly devoted to them. He would be fine with older kids that are respectful of his boundaries as he does not care for people to touch his feet or pull on his ears. His ears and feet are a work in progress as he most likely was in pain from being matted for so long. Teddy has had zero potty accidents, even when his foster humans have been away for awhile. He just lounges and chills when his humans are out! He loves to cuddle and once trusts visitors will often be found in their laps. Underdogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. Adoption fee for Teddy is $325.
