Story
Popcorn is about 18 lbs., 15 years old and according to Google lens, a West highland terrier. Animal Care Services thought he was a Maltese mix and foster mom thinks he could be a Schnauzer/Maltese mix but knows for sure that he is the cutest scruffy EVER! His journey hasn't been all snuggles and treats as he lived on someone's apartment patio for years, lying in poop, grass and other debris until Animal Care Services came for him and God's Dogs Rescue was able to save the little scamp. While he still loves his humans, other gentle pups his size (cats unknown) and his squishy toys and chewy, understandably he has a few emotional scars especially regarding vet visits and grooming. Slow, patient progress in these areas has helped him be more confident, but will need a patient adopter to help him adapt. Things that make Popcorn super happy are spending time with his humans after he gets to know them, car rides and walks in the park. He loves, loves his squishy toys and generally carries one around with him. His most favorite game is for his person to chase him and pretend to take his squishy away. He also like to run zooms and if there isn't a person to play with he will often throw his toys for himself. Doesn't that just make you want to throw his stuffies so he can play?? He's a healthy guy for his age with just a few old man issues (beginnings of cataracts) that he takes supplements for and should continue taking. His liver enzymes were high when tested but he is on a med to help them normalize. Can you give this boy the right lap to live in?? He needs very patient/knowledgeable adopters, no children- adult only because he will bite if afraid... It is a work in progress but he is becoming the goofy boy he was meant to be while living on the nasty hot and freezing porch for most of his 14 yrs :( GIVE HIM A CHANCE!!! Local adoption only $200 (in TX)

Story
Pending adoption We have a transport where we will be personally driving our dogs home leaving on 12/13/25 to NorCal, OR, and WA. Surrounding states will be added to our route as needed ☺️ We would love to add Misty to our trip for the right home! Meet Misty — our sweet little Maltese/Yorkie mix with a heart as mighty as her tiny 4.7-lb frame. She turned a year old on January 20, 2025, and though she’s fully grown, her personality still carries that spark of youthful curiosity and wonder that makes her such a joy to have around. She’s dainty, adorable, and full of gentle affection — the kind of dog who wants to be close, loves to be loved, and finds happiness in every quiet, shared moment with her person. Misty came to us after her prior owner realized that caring for such a small breed wasn’t the right fit for her lifestyle. Though she adored Misty immensely, she wanted her to be in a home where she could be truly understood, valued, and cherished for the tiny but spirited soul that she is. From the very beginning, it was clear Misty’s heart had so much love to give — she just needed a bit of structure and guidance to help her understand that love is built on trust, not control. In her previous home, Misty was doted on and never told “no.” What she wanted, she got — and while it came from a place of affection, it left her without boundaries or a sense of respectful sharing. Over time, that lack of structure caused her to become possessive over prized items like toys or treats — things she felt she had to guard because she’d never learned that she didn’t need to. When we brought her into our care, we focused on rebuilding her sense of safety and security. Here, Misty has made incredible progress. She’s learned that boundaries aren’t punishments — they’re safety nets. We’ve worked gently but firmly with her to remove high-value items from free access and only reintroduce them during crate time, where she knows those things are hers and hers alone. This structure has given her confidence and greatly reduced her anxiety about sharing space and resources. She now plays beautifully with other dogs, enjoys the company of our own dogs, and would absolutely thrive with another respectful, well-mannered pet — as long as her new home continues the consistent structure she’s responded to so well. Misty is crate trained, pad trained, and house trained with supervision due to her small size — she’s always accompanied outside and follows a reliable daily routine that keeps her on track. She’s also leash trained and loves taking her time to smell every flower she passes on her walks 🌸. She rides wonderfully in the car, making her the perfect co-pilot for errands, road trips, or just an afternoon drive around town. She’s calm, patient, and not a barker, though she’ll give a gentle alert if she hears something unusual — just enough to let you know she’s on duty before settling right back down again. She sleeps soundly through the night and does great in her crate, but she’s equally content curling up on her own bed — or in yours if you invite her (she’ll never say no to cuddles). She’s a loyal little companion who loves with her entire being, and once she trusts you, she’ll follow you like your very own shadow. Because of her small size and her history of wanting to guard special items, we’re recommending a home without small children — not because she wouldn’t love them, but because a quieter environment will help her continue feeling secure. Visiting grandchildren or occasional younger guests would be perfectly fine — it’s the daily dynamic of unpredictable play or toy sharing that she finds overwhelming. Misty is wonderful with older children, men, women, and other dogs, and she’s shown beautiful adaptability here. With continued consistency and calm leadership, she’ll only keep growing into the best version of herself. She truly wants to please and has shown us that she learns fast when she knows she’s safe and understood. Adoption Fee is on our website at the bottom of her adoption listing at https://www.breadoflifek9refuge.org/post/misty-1 Her adoption fee covers her spay (which required extended anesthesia time as she was in heat), a full dental exam and cleaning (two retained baby teeth were safely removed), her microchip and lifetime registration, core vaccinations, and vet health clearance. As always, her adoption fee also helps cover the months of individualized care, training, and professional grooming she’s received during her time with us — every ounce of love, patience, and progress that’s gone into helping Misty find balance and confidence again. Misty’s journey is a reminder that even the smallest dogs can have the biggest hearts and that sometimes, all they need is a little structure to let their love shine through. Whoever earns her trust will gain one of the most loyal, tender, and devoted companions imaginable — a tiny dog with an enormous capacity for love. ❤️

Story
We have a transport where we will be personally driving our dogs home leaving on 12/13/25 to NorCal, OR, and WA. Surrounding states will be added to our route as needed ☺️ We would love to add Benny to our trip for the right home! Some puppies simply have “it” — that gentle spark, that intuitive sweetness, that soft, loving presence that wraps around you the moment they crawl into your arms. Benny is one of those rare little souls. Even at such a young age, he carries a calm confidence and an emotional awareness that feels far beyond his months. He came to us from a home where he was deeply loved and spoiled in the best ways, and you can feel that history in how connected he is to people. The devotion he offers is pure, immediate, and full-hearted. His journey to us was a tender one. His prior owner adored him and struggled tremendously with the decision to surrender him. A sudden breakup and the need to return to full-time work meant Benny would no longer have the companionship he was accustomed to — and she knew that wouldn’t be fair to him. She chose the selfless path, asking us to take him in and ensure he found a home where he could continue to be someone’s whole world. Because that is exactly what Benny is meant to be: a true companion, a shadow, a love-at-your-side kind of dog. He is incredibly smart — shockingly so for his age — and don’t let his size fool you. When you call “Benny!”, you hear his little paws pattering toward you from wherever he is, bursting with excitement just to be close. His heart lives for connection. And he is doing phenomenal at his house training — truly remarkable for a puppy his age. He goes outside every couple of hours to use the restroom, and due to his tiny size, he is always supervised for his safety. He’s attentive, willing, and eager to learn, which makes him such a joy in a structured home. He is a snuggler to his core, happiest pressed against your chest or curled at your side. Sleeping in bed with his person is one of the joys of his life, so if dogs in the bed aren’t your thing, he may not be the right fit. His previous owner let him be her cuddle buddy, and that comfort has shaped who he is. He’s the kind of dog who wants to wake up with his head on your pillow and fall asleep knowing you’re right there. Crates, though, are not his preference. We believe it’s the feeling of confinement — after being so bonded to his person his whole life, he simply doesn’t understand being separated or closed away. He isn’t destructive, and he isn’t mischievous; he just thrives when he’s near the people he loves. Being kept apart feels foreign to him, and we want to honor the emotional safety he has built through closeness, not separation. He LOVES his beds — so much so that we keep one in every space he spends time in. He’ll flop into them dramatically, roll on his back, or tuck himself in like a tiny burrito. In the car, he enjoys looking out the window, taking in the world with those big expressive eyes. And at the groomer? He’s an absolute dream. Being pampered suits him, and he handles grooming like a seasoned professional. Leash training hasn’t begun yet, as we needed to make sure all his vaccines were fully current before introducing him to the outside world. Now that he’s officially cleared, his new world is opening up — and with his eager-to-please personality, we have no doubt he’ll take to leash training beautifully and naturally. On the health side, Benny was born 5/22/25 and is completely current on everything age-appropriate. He has had a great full exam with our vet, is microchipped, has had his deworming based on fecal results sent to the lab, and is going home with a health certificate showing he has been fully cleared for adoption. He weighs 5.5 lbs currently and is expected to be around 10–12 lbs full grown. He is a purebred Maltese, and everything about him — his coat, his temperament, his expression — reflects the sweetness and refinement of his breed. Because he is still so young, he will be going home on a neuter contract, as it is important to allow him time to grow and mature before being fixed. What Benny needs most is someone who truly wants a companion. Someone who loves a dog that follows them from room to room, listens for their voice, and melts into their lap the moment they sit down. He thrives on closeness and emotional connection. He is eager to please, affectionate, and has one of those soft, intuitive personalities that simply makes a home feel warmer. If you’re looking for a sweet soul who will meet you at the door every day with his whole heart shining in his eyes, Benny is waiting for you. His adoption fee is on our website at the bottom of his adoption listing at https://www.breadoflifek9refuge.org/post/benny which covers all of his veterinary care to date (including vaccines, microchip/registration, fecal testing, deworming, his full exam, and his issued health certificate), as well as the months of care, meals, grooming upkeep, and training he has received with us. Every adoption directly supports our ability to continue rescuing and preparing dogs like Benny for the beautiful lives they deserve.
