My name is GRUMPY and I’m a 5y M Tan Shih Tzu X. I’m 15 lbs of PURE SWEET GROUCHINESS. I was brought to a police precinct in the Bronx, NY and luckily the rescue was able to save me before I was taken to the shelter. I was affectionately named Grumpy because I was not immediately warm and fuzzy with the foster mom and growled at her a lot… but once I got to know her and she went slow with me to introduce me to her household… I trusted her and she can do anything to me now. I’m a little guarded with strangers and rightly so because I was pretty much neglected by my previous family. I’m housebroken and walk well on the leash and I can be picked up and handled as long as you slow. I’m a nice guy but nervous at first so I need someone who is going to be patient and believe in me and give me the TLC I need. I’m good with small dogs but am afraid of big dogs and will snap/snark at them. I’ve not met any cats so not sure about them and best if I don’t go with any young kids. I prefer to be the ONLY DOG so I can get all the attention that I never got in my previous home. My only other vice is that it’s not easy to groom me.. I’m nervous around objects coming to my face so I need to go to an experienced groomer but I was fine being handled by the vet. I need a QUIET ADULT ONLY home with someone or a couple that are home a lot and have had previous experience with a “grumpy” dog and are willing to give me the TLC and believe in me to make me the SWEET AND LOVING dog I know I can be!! Meet Shapo! Shapo is an 8 pound maltese and is 3 to 4 years old. Shapo is really such a great little guy to be around! He is very sweet and kind natured. Shapo is crate trained and potty trained and does well on a leash. He has been great with all of the other doggy friends he has met. Shapo loves to hang out with the other dogs but is also perfectly content hanging out on the couch or bed with his humans. Shap0 had a dental cleaning and bloodwork at his recent vet visit. My husband and I adopted Penelope 9 years ago after she was picked up by NYC animal control from the streets of Brooklyn. When she was found her hair was dyed pink and completed matted, she was malnourished and had no identification. Since we adopted her we have spend countless hours, money and love to care for her. She was previously very reactive towards people and other dogs, we sent her away to be trained by an ex military and personal protection dog trainer who worked on her aggression issues and successfully trained her to behave using a e-collar. Penelope is now 10 years old and unfortunately we are unable to provide her the care she desires day to day. Our family has expanded to two children (3 and 1) as well as a second dog and we are very busy and living in Manhattan. Penelope needs to be in an adults only home where she is the only dog and she can be the center of attention. She will also do much better in a suburb where she can potty often in an enclosed backyard.

I am in the process of wee wee pad training her but she is a quick learner so it’s taking some time, patience, and comfortability. I’m also still learning her favorite treats.
