Let me give you the scoop on what makes me special. At 7 pounds and 7 years young, I may be small, but my personality is mighty. I'm friendly, curious, and playful—always up for a good time! Despite my luxating knees, I don't let it slow me down. With a little extra care and some glucosamine, I'm ready to tackle life head-on. I'm a social butterfly who loves making new friends, whether they're furry or not. Playing with other dogs and even cats? Count me in! Squeaky toys are my jam, and I'll happily gather them in my favorite bed for a play session. Plus, I'm a foodie at heart—I'll devour treats, fruits, and peanut butter like there's no tomorrow. While I may not be a fan of the kiddos under 12, I'm still working on mastering the art of potty training. I'm a quick learner, though, and with a little patience and consistency, I'll get there in no time. At night, I sleep quietly in my kennel, but I might get a bit chatty when I hear someone stirring in the morning. Now, about those stairs—I'm still getting the hang of them. I prefer homes with minimal stairs to spare my precious knees, but don't worry, I don't mind being carried. And if you lay out a trail of rugs on those slippery floors, I'll be forever grateful, especially in the kitchen where I love to supervise meal prep. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hi, my name is Calvin and I spent my early years not in any sort of inside, family-style living so this is all new to me.  So forgive me if I am a little skittish or nervous occasionally.  Especially when we first meet.  I do the same thing when outside of the environment I’ve grown accustomed to but I’m working on that and would do best with a home that will be patient and understanding.  I admit, I’ve growled at people when my stress level is over the top for me but I haven’t ever snapped or bitten anyone. But for now, maybe a home without small kids would be better as commotion, loud noises and men seem to make me more tense. I don’t have too much desire to play right now as I’m still trying to get accustomed to life in a loving environment.  I’m low key but I ventured out a bit this week and actually played with a toy!  Hold your applause! I don’t really have a fur bestie so I can be an only pet if you’re home most of the day.  Why, you ask?? Well, I tend to have lots of conversation with people and like to voice my complaints to the peanut gallery often (bark bark).  I am crate trained but that darn potty thing is a bit trickier.  However, when you keep me on a good schedule, I feel I’m close to making it happen! I don’t require a fenced yard either, as I’m working on my leash skills.  Granted, it’s got more work to be had but we can do it!  I have put my noodles together and with lots of practice, I know “sit, come, kennel, outside and go potty!” I’m food motivated which is why my noodles are functional. I'm 5 years old and ready to find a loving forever home where I can continue to grow and thrive. At home, I'm an absolute delight. My adorable looks and sweet disposition make it easy to fall in love with me. I'm still adjusting to my new surroundings, so I'm a bit timid, but my loving nature shines through. I’m trying really hard to be a brave girl and let my people pet me, with some patience I know I will gain the courage to sit near you. While I'm not quite fully potty trained yet, I'm really close when kept on a good schedule. I'm also crate trained, although I do bark when I'm in my crate. However, I've never had an accident in there. I'm working on my leash training and occasionally go for walks, but I still need more practice. Sometimes, I freeze when I'm on a leash, but with patience and gentle encouragement, I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. While I don’t require a fence, having one would help me use some energy and get on a potty routine. I get along well with smaller dogs and would benefit from having another dog in the house to learn from. Having another dog will help me get on a routine and learn to trust people. I do bark when left alone, so having a furry friend around might help me feel more secure. It would be best if I don't have shared walls in my forever home.  One thing to know about me is that I'm still quite timid. I really want to be loved and snuggled, but sometimes I struggle to get close enough for pets. This is getting better every day, though! I even sleep with my foster family and let them pet me while we're in bed. Getting down to my level helps too, as I wag my tail like crazy when someone does that. Meet Rosie – a 9 yr old Maltese that came to us from a breeding operation. She’s lived with other dogs in a kennel setting, so moving into a home is a big transition for her. She’s good with the resident dog, but frightened of the cats. Her current foster mom says she would be fine as an only dog, or could be paired with another same size mature dog. She’s never lived with children, and has no interest in play; we think she would do best in a quiet adult-only home. Rosie is small (she only weighs 12#), so going up and down the stairs is a challenge for her – if there are steps in her new home, her adopter should be physically able to pick her up and carry her up and down them. If bribed with treats, she might try to navigate a few steps, but this is a slow process. Rosie uses pee pads indoors most of the time (she was never housebroken), but will do her business outside in the morning and afternoon. She barks when anyone comes into the house, or when she hears an outside noise, so is not a dog for apartment living. Rides well in the car. Goes on walks with the resident dog, and walks very slowly. Sleeps in bed with her person at night, and enjoys snuggling. Do not crate her – she will claw and try to get out. Shy meeting new people, but is fine once she warms up to them. Has been good at the groomer, and will need grooming 5-6 times/yr. Rosie needs a secure fenced yard, because running around and doing zoomies is how she gets her exercise – be sure there aren’t any gaps under the fence or around the gate that she could squeeze through . Rosie was spayed in May, and because of severe periodontal disease, 23 teeth needed to be extracted while she was under anesthetic. Rosie eats some small-bite dry kibble mixed with chicken. Rosie is current on distemper, rabies, bordetella, and leptospirosis vaccinations. Her heartworm and tick profiles are negative. The microchip is registered to Second Chance. Sammy is an adorable 5 month old male Maltese……all 5 pounds of him. His DOB is 4/11/2024. Because he’s been with multiple other dogs, he hasn’t gotten the one-on-one housebreaking attention needed, so he's not reliably housebroken yet. But once adopted this should go very quickly; foster working on it now. Whenever he is taken out, he is on a long lead and his foster mom stays with him because otherwise he could be vulnerable to a bird of prey or coyote. Sammy is in his chewing stage, so will need plenty of approved things to chew on and you need to make your electrical cords puppy-safe because he has chewed on them in his foster home. Sammy needs to be safely kenneled when left alone, and will need adult supervision when playing in the house. This little guy would thrive in a home that had someone home much of the time. One important thing to note: Sammy will burrow under blankets, so everyone in the home must locate him before they sit or lay down if there is a blanket or throw on the furniture. He gets along well with the other small dogs in the foster home, and would love a canine playmate about his size. Sammy is very charming, and he kisses his foster mom awake every morning, then wants his first snuggle of the day – he uses soft steps to get on and off the bed. He is so tiny, he would be vulnerable to injury if accidentally dropped, so any children in his home should be mature/responsible 10 yr and up. No cat experience. Sammy barks when left alone, so he shouldn't live in housing that shares a wall with another family. Sammy is neutered, and current on distemper and rabies vaccinations. His microchip is registered to Second Chance. He will need to be groomed several times a year – an ongoing expense to consider. He is five lively pounds of joy, very curious and intelligent.
