To schedule a time to meet this dog, please email Kathryn at kvry@arl-iowa.org.---- Bouncy and goofy girl who loves to be around her people - She is slow to build relationships in her circle, but once you're in, you'll be in for life! - Blank slate for training and will be fun to teach new skills to. - Enjoys going for walks, and has great groundwork for housetraining. - Young children and new people can make her uncomfortable right now, so she may do best in a mature and predictable home to help her build confidence. - May take more than one meet and greet to build a relationship and join her inner circle. - Tends to be very uncomfortable around other dogs and avoid interacting with them; she may prefer to be the only dog in her home. All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. Popcorn is about 18 lbs., 14 years old and according to Google lens, a West highland terrier. Animal Care Services thought he was a Maltese mix and foster mom thinks he could be a Schnauzer/Maltese mix but knows for sure that he is the cutest scruffy EVER!!! His journey hasn't been all snuggles and treats as he lived on someone's apartment patio for years, lying in poop, grass and other debris until Animal Care Services came for him and God's Dogs Rescue was able to save the little scamp. While he still loves his humans, other gentle pups his size (cats unknown) and his squishy toys and chewy, understandably he has a few emotional scars especially regarding vet visits and grooming. Slow, patient progress in these areas has helped him be more confident, but will need a patient adopter to help him adapt. Things that make Popcorn super happy are spending time with his humans after he gets to know them, car rides and walks in the park. He loves, loves his squishy toys and generally carries one around with him. His most favorite game is for his person to chase him and pretend to take his squishy away. He also like to run zooms and if there isn't a person to play with he will often throw his toys for himself. Doesn't that just make you want to throw his stuffies so he can play?? He's a healthy guy for his age with just a few old man issues (beginnings of cataracts) that he takes supplements for and should continue taking. His liver enzymes were high when tested but he is on a med to help them normalize. Can you give this boy the right lap to live in?? He needs very patient/knowledgeable adopters, no children- adult only because he will bite if afraid... It is a work in progress but he is becoming the goofy boy he was meant to be while living on the nasty hot and freezing porch for most of his 14 yrs :( GIVE HIM A CHANCE!!! Local adoption only $200 (in TX)

For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! Hello, I'm Cloud. I've got a heart as big as the sky. I'm sweet as honey, always ready with a friendly wag and a cuddle. I was found all alone as a stray running around and some nice people got me and took me to the shelter. I'm working on getting better as I was so skinny when I came in. The nice people at the shelter think I might be partially, or fully deaf. My loyalty knows no bounds. Life in the shelter is okay, but I dream of a home where I can share my boundless love.
