Story
Taz & Elmer are brothers who are looking for a special home where they will be kept together. They were rescued from a hoarding situation and unfortunately were under-socialized during their first year of life. These two kitties are absolutely beautiful Maine Coon crosses, so they turn a lot of heads, but it will be important that they find the right home to help them thrive. They're very bonded and love to curl up together, so it's important that they be adopted together.
These brothers are curious kitties who will eventually bond with their new family. However, bonding with them may look a bit different than what you're used to. They love to follow their fosters around from room to room and be involved in what's going on around the house, but at this time they are uncomfortable being handled. They are happy to sleep on the bed, or sit on the couch while you watch TV, but they would prefer that you didn't try to pet them. They will take treats out of your hand and get close to you, but they're having trouble taking the last step. Both boys are still young (just over 1 year of age) so in time they will likely become more comfortable being handled. However, their new family must be cat-experienced and be willing to give the cats time to blossom at their own pace.
Since these boys came from a home with a large number of other cats, they are comfortable around other felines. They would prefer to be in a home with another friendly, social cat that can help them learn to trust people. They are playful as well as food-motivated, so they will bond with their new family and their new feline friend through playtime and snacks. Since they have long hair, they will really benefit from regular grooming, so once they are more comfortable being pet, regular bushing will be a good way to bond with them as well.
Neither Taz nor Elmer are comfortable with children, or with dogs. They are looking for a quiet, adult-only, cat-experienced home that is willing to help them progress at their own pace, and learn to trust people. If you take the time to allow these boys to come out of their shells, you won't regret it.
