Story
This very handsome boy is Mr Big Stuff (MBS), and he's looking for a very special home. His name makes him sound like he is a big macho boy, but in truth he's the exact opposite. He was rescued from a hoarding situation when he was about a year old. Not only was he under-socialized during his first year of life, but he was also not treated very well. Therefore, he is still learning how to trust people. Mr Big Stuff needs a very quiet, cat-experienced home to help him become the amazing cat that he has the ability to become. When MBS first arrived in our care, his entire coat was heavily matted and he had to be shaved. He has sores all over his skin, he was incredibly skinny, he was very dirty and he was covered in ticks. Our wonderful vets were able to get MBS in good physical shape and now we're working on his mental health. Despite being very unsure in new situations, MBS has never shown an ounce of aggression. He is introverted and prefers to avoid conflict. He's very gentle and just wants to live a happy, comfortable life. What he needs is a loving, compassionate person to help him learn that bonding with people can be a positive thing. He is very food motivated, which helps him make positive associations with people. MBS is most comfortable when around other cats. Ideally, he would love a home with another friendly cat or two who can help him see that spending time with people is a good thing. Since MBS is so submissive, a cat that wont boss him around (and that will mother him) is best. It is going to take him quite some time to bond with a new family, so adopting him will require some patience. Due to the Maine Coon part of his ancestry, grooming MBS on a regular basis will be important to help keep his coat in good shape. We haven't had to do much grooming yet because he coat has been slowing growing back after being shaved, but it will need to become a regular part of his routine (or he'll need to be shaved regularly by a professional groomer.) Grooming will also be a good way to create a bond with MBS. MBS needs a home without dogs or children. This poor boy absolutely breaks our hearts and melts them at the same time. He has had such a hard start to life and he deserves the world. Every time we see him making little strides in his confidence, it makes us so happy and we can't wait to see which life-joy he'll discover next. Story
Taz & Elmer are brothers who are looking for a special home where they will be kept together. They were rescued from a hoarding situation and unfortunately were under-socialized during their first year of life. These two kitties are absolutely beautiful Maine Coon crosses, so they turn a lot of heads, but it will be important that they find the right home to help them thrive. They're very bonded and love to curl up together, so it's important that they be adopted together. These brothers are curious kitties who will eventually bond with their new family. However, bonding with them may look a bit different than what you're used to. They love to follow their fosters around from room to room and be involved in what's going on around the house, but at this time they are uncomfortable being handled. They are happy to sleep on the bed, or sit on the couch while you watch TV, but they would prefer that you didn't try to pet them. They will take treats out of your hand and get close to you, but they're having trouble taking the last step. Both boys are still young (just over 1 year of age) so in time they will likely become more comfortable being handled. However, their new family must be cat-experienced and be willing to give the cats time to blossom at their own pace. Since these boys came from a home with a large number of other cats, they are comfortable around other felines. They would prefer to be in a home with another friendly, social cat that can help them learn to trust people. They are playful as well as food-motivated, so they will bond with their new family and their new feline friend through playtime and snacks. Since they have long hair, they will really benefit from regular grooming, so once they are more comfortable being pet, regular bushing will be a good way to bond with them as well. Neither Taz nor Elmer are comfortable with children, or with dogs. They are looking for a quiet, adult-only, cat-experienced home that is willing to help them progress at their own pace, and learn to trust people. If you take the time to allow these boys to come out of their shells, you won't regret it. If you'd like to learn more about this handsome pair, please inquire at victoriapets@gmail.com or go to https://victoriapets.ca/adoption-process/ to complete an adoption application.
