Story
·Intake Reason: Owner`s Health-Weight: 72 lbs Known with: ·Cats: Unknown ·Dogs: Went to dog parks ·Kids: Exposed to 5 year old - goodYahoo, my name is Mercury and I am an active young lad in the market for a new home. I lived with a wonderful person almost my whole life and I was super happy. Unfortunately, my person developed some health issues and they could no longer take care of me so I came to WCHS. I must confess that my current situation has me a bit discombobulated. All the people I have met are very nice and I am being well-cared for, but I really yearn for a place where I can be a true family member and know I will be loved forever. I have so much affection to share with my peeps. I am still a youngster so I know I have a bunch to learn, discover and explore and I am counting on you to help me safely navigate the world and experience new things each day to allow me to continue to grow into a confident young dog. Remember that so many things that seem common to you may be completely new to me, so I hope you will be patient and let me take things at my own pace. I am a big guy and still have a little growing to do so I would appreciate learning righteous manners and dynamite social skills; I hope to be your constant companion and want to be welcome everywhere we go. I already know the cue for ‘sit’ but will need to control my rambunctiousness and practice proper leash skills. Perhaps you could also remind me that the fun activity of counter-surfing is frowned upon and should be avoided. In my previous home when I needed to use the outdoor facilities, I learned to bark at my person to ask to go outside. Although I understand house-training, when I first get to my new home it would be wise to give me plenty of opportunities for bathroom breaks until we are familiar with each other’s signals and routines. I have not had any experience with kitties but I used to go to dog parks and have had great fun romping with other rowdy pups at the shelter. I have not lived with any children but I have met some young humans and did well. Since I may not always know my size and can be boisterous, I should always be supervised around small tykes. It is important that children learn about respecting me, too, and treat me gently because I am fragile and sensitive. I am friendly, outgoing and tolerant of handling; I enjoy cuddles and snuggles but can be very wiggly. I love car rides, especially if we are going someplace

Story
Intake Reason: Surrendered, owner was movingWeight: 65.2 poundsKnown with: ·Cats: Has been exposed to cats ·Dogs: Unknown ·Kids: Good with children, exposed to 6-14 yr oldsHi there, my name is Duke and although it looks like I am wearing a tux I am a down-to-earth lad who likes to have fun. I lived with a family for a few months and things were going very well but unfortunately, they had to move to a place where I could not stay with them. So, although the situation was quite a bummer, I came to WCHS and I am optimistic that I will find a new loving home. I am an active boy who will need plenty of physical and mental exercise every day to keep me in tip-top shape. In my previous home I was able to have play-dates with some neighborhood pups and I have a marvelous time romping with some of the pooches at the shelter in playgroup. I am comfortable in a crate and had my own private cozy den to relax in when I was alone in the house or at bedtime during the night. I knew to go to the door to ask to get outside to use the facilities. So, I understand the concept of house-training and prefer to do my business outside. When I first come into my new home, though, it would be wise to give me plenty of opportunities to go outside until we learn each other’s signals and routines. I am a smart lad and think it would be lovely to take some classes with you; I do need a smidge amount of work in the manners department. When I am happy and excited, I get so exuberant that I sometimes jump up on people in way of greeting and can be a little mouthy. I also need some work on proper leash behavior because I do a fair amount of pulling when I am out exploring with my humans; I am a big strong guy so that can make walks a bit difficult for people. I thoroughly enjoy getting outside, though, and love to go on hikes to scout around and discover new places. I already know the cues for ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘shake/paw’ and ‘kennel up’; I think it would be grand to learn even more human words from you. I like to keep my brain busy so I am a big fan of canine enrichment where I tackle mentally challenging toys or use my fabulous nose to play fun games. I am a friendly, playful and affectionate chap; long snuggle sessions after a fun-filled day are a great way to spend evenings. I enjoy car rides and am always up for a rousing game of fetch. If you are looking for a handsome and noble pooch, I believe your search is over. I hope you stop by to meet

Story
·Intake Reason: Came to WCHS as a transfer from Texas-Weight: 15 lbs Known with: ·Cats: Unknown ·Dogs: Unknown ·Kids: UnknownPuppies are magnificent! I am cute, rambunctious, lively and fun. I have so much to learn, discover and explore - just a tiny sponge who is ready to absorb everything you have to teach me and show me. I am counting on you to help me safely navigate the world and experience new things each day to allow me to grow into a confident young dog. That isn’t as exotic and daunting a task as it might sound. Each day I just need to be introduced to one new thing like the sound of a vacuum, a blender or a door bell, walking up and down a step, a ride in a car, hearing a motorcycle or a truck, going somewhere to see new people, even maneuvering a fallen log on a walk. You get the idea, so many things that seem common to you are completely new to me. Speaking of growing, I may be tiny now but I do plan on getting bigger so I would love to take obedience classes to learn proper manners and social skills. I also know I have to practice something called house-training so I know proper potty behavior. A routine and lots of yummy treats and praise will go a long way to helping me master house-training when I potty outside. Puppies and dogs need love, exercise, mental stimulation and consistency to be healthy, happy and confident. I am typically very open to all sorts of housemates; I can be a bit mischievous and may find any other critter as a potential playmate so they will need to understand that about me. I often explore the world with my mouth and while I am teething I like to chew; my little puppy teeth are very sharp so if I am around children we should always be supervised. It is important that children learn about respecting me, too, and treat me gently because I am fragile. Raising a puppy is a big responsibility, a lot of work, and it may interrupt your sleep cycle for a bit, but a courteous and well-behaved dog is certainly worth the investment and I promise to be loyal, love you unconditionally and be a companion forever. I just know I will bring joy and laughter into your home and cannot wait to meet you. Let the adventures begin!#1
