$50 Adoption fee! Why so low? Yakima County is spilling over with stray and dumped dogs. Our goal is to get dogs into the right homes ASAP so we can help other dogs in need. It's not about the money, it's about finding the right home for these pups! After spending almost a year in the Humane Society, Scooby transferred into our rescue. From day one, he fit right into our pack, playing nicely with dogs of all sizes and ages. He is one happy boy! If you want a couch cuddler, he is your guy. This loving boy would love a family to call his own, preferably with a big yard to run in and a few fur siblings to play with. This dog is located in Selah, WA. PetFinder allows multiple postings of the same animal as long as the postings are 100 miles apart from each other. This way we can reach far and wide to find the perfect home for this dog. If driving to Selah is difficult for you, we will do our best to find a rescue partner to meet you halfway. I always recommend on leash, slow introductions to cats so behavior can be corrected right away. Scooby may be too hyper for cats. He’s way too excited to be near them so it may take some time to trust him around cats. EXPOSURE TO CHILDREN: teens RECOMMENDATION FOR CHILDREN: I think he would do well around kids of all ages, but I would use caution around very young children just because of his size and spatial awareness. It's not about the money, it's about finding the right home for these pups! Are you ready for some doggie snuggles? This sweet pup is ready for a family to love on! Hoodoo and his siblings were born to a stray mama and a kind family took her in so she could give birth in a safe warm spot. Hoodoo was adopted to a family at 3 months of age, and returned to us at 7 months because the grandparents moved into the family home and they decided they didn’t have room for the dog. He has been an absolute sweetheart since arriving back with us, very playful and loving. He gets along wonderfully with dogs of all sizes and ages. This dog is located in Selah, WA. PetFinder allows multiple postings of the same animal as long as the postings are 100 miles apart from each other. This way we can reach far and wide to find the perfect home for this dog. Story
Meet Chief Chedder, a seven year old Lab mix. Chief Cheddar is a little bit of an oddball, he likes attention but is very head shy and wants it on his terms with people he knows. Once he knows you he does enjoy a good lovin and is very easy to handle, but you have to gain this boy’s respect and trust. Due to this we recommend a home with no kids. Chief Chedder met a small dog in the lobby and went to say hi, the small dog snapped at him and Chief Cheddar immediately backed off so he could be a good dog for a home with other canine companions. Chief Chedder is just looking for a retirement home with someone who will accept him “as is” and love him and all of his quirks. If you are interested in adopting this pet please fill out an adoption questionnaire at www.yakimahumane.org. A Yakima Humane Society staff member will contact you once your questionnaire has been processed. Adopters are welcome to visit the adoption center Monday-Sunday, that’s right we are open all days of the week! A Picture says 1000 words...right? While an animal`s picture draws interest, the reality is that as a potential adopter most people would like as much information as possible about a pet. The Yakima Humane Society is an open admission shelter. What does this mean? Over 90% of the pets at the adoption center arrive as strays, no history of behavior or medical care is known. Adding a pet to your family is a big responsibility. Please research carefully and remember that adoption is life saving. Before you go searching for free puppies or puppies for sale, check your local Shelters for available dogs and puppies that have been vetted and are ready to go home. Adopt Don`t Shop.

Story
Meet Marshall, a two year old Lab/Pit mix.Marshall came to us after his owner was hospitalized and no longer able to care for him. Marshall is rather unsure of all the changes and a little aloof, he seems to be holding out hope that his owner will be able to come get him, unfortunately that just isn’t the case. Marshall came to us with some skin issues and hairloss that is currently being treated. He would love a home that will give him a little grace as he has been through quite a lot including firefighters having to break down the door to his home in order to assist his previous owner. At 72 pounds Marshall is a decent sized dog but walks well on leash and is doing great with his manners. Marshall has met other dogs while being here and does really well, his favorite play partner is currently Beau a Chocolate Lab mix who we leave outside in the yard together while their kennels are being cleaned. This pet is available for adoption on 9/8/2024 at 3:49 PM at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. Story
Meet Bailey, a three year old Lab/German Shepherd mix.Bailey is a sweet girl that weighs 67 pounds. We aren’t sure all the breeds that are in Bailey but we do know that they have been combined to create a gentle girl who deserves on the best. Bailey is a bit unsure of shelter life but has been a good girl through it all. She is looking for that special someone who will help bring her out of her shell and show her all the finer things in life. Bailey walks fantastic on her leash and just needs someone to love. She has met other dogs and done well with them, she can be a bit nervous at first but has initiated play with one of our lower-key dogs. However, she would do best in a home with no cats. Bailey just really wants someone who loves sweet dogs and can give gentle affection. This pet is available for adoption at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center.
