Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Luca, the Adventure-Loving Cuddlebug! He is the perfect boy for an active family!! At a year old and 40 lbs, he has the personality of a lab in a compact body! Luca is a bundle of joy whose love for life is absolutely contagious! When he first arrived at his foster home, he was a shy, cautious little soul. But oh, how he has flourished! Luca has transformed into the ultimate cuddlebug, eager to snuggle up and share his unending love and affection. Previously timid with the leash, Luca now bounds forward with newfound confidence, eagerly awaiting his daily explorations. His zest for life and boundless curiosity make every walk an adventure. Whether frolicking in a spacious yard catching frisbees or play-wrestling with a canine pal, Luca is happiest when active and involved in family activities. He is a fairly quiet dog; he barks outside when someone comes to the fence or inside the yard, but he doesn't bark inside....and we're not sure if his outside barking is because he's copying the other dogs in the home or if it's his own idea. If he's in his crate, he will bark to alert that he needs to go out, but otherwise he is quiet indoors.  Though a bit reserved around new faces, Luca quickly warms up to become a loving lap dog once he feels secure. For this reason, a home with another friendly and active dog would be ideal for him. Luca’s sociable nature shines brightest in the company of his canine friends! Luca isn’t just about outdoor escapades; he’s equally content to stay indoors, showering his humans with affection and delighting in his toy collection. His gentle demeanor makes him a perfect companion for children, with whom he is always careful and sweet. He would be the perfect family dog, for children to grow up with. One of Luca’s charming features is his adorable short, docked tail. We don't know if he was born that way or someone docked it at his birth. We did have a DNA test donated and Luca is a little mix of everything! He quite literally is a mix of (a small percentage each) TWENTY different breeds, a multi-generational mutt! If you're seeking a devoted, playful, friendly and loyal companion who is as enthusiastic about adventure as he is about snuggle time, Luca is your boy. Come meet him and let the adventures begin! Luca has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heart worm tested, dewormed and is on heartworm and flea/tick prevention. He is ready to find his forever home!  * This dog's adoption fee is $200Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Interested in this animal? The first step is an application, which can be completed at www.cvrrescue.org/adoption-applications/. The adoption fee helps cover a portion of the care provided for our animals, including spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm testing for dogs, FeLV/FIV combo testing for cats, deworming, age-appropriate vaccines (including rabies vaccine), and any medical care received while in our care. All cats and dogs are on flea/tick and parasite prevention for the duration of foster care. Notes about puppies: Adopters can expect a new puppy to have accidents, chew things they shouldn't, and have other normal, energetic puppy issues until they are trained, including jumping, mouthing, and general youthful naughtiness. If you experience puppy issues, please feel free to contact us; we’re happy to offer guidance. Also, if a puppy is a mixed breed, we cannot guarantee an adult weight. If your residence has weight restrictions or if you’re looking for a specific adult weight, we don't recommend applying for a mixed-breed puppy. We also offer rehoming services for pets currently owned by individuals. In these cases, we list the animal as a courtesy to the owner, and the animal is not currently in the care of CVRR, such that we can make no representation or guarantee of the animal’s behavior, demeanor, or health assessment. All information listed for a courtesy-posted animal is provided by the current owner and should be verified by any potential adopter. CVRR is a nonprofit organization. We have no paid staff, and all applications are reviewed and processed by our volunteers. Please be patient and understand that it may take 7-14 days to process your application, check your references, and gather follow-up info. You can expedite the process by providing accurate phone numbers and email addresses for your vet and landlord references, and by answering each question fully. Once your application is approved, we will schedule a meet-and-greet to see if the animal picks you, too. If it seems the adoption will be a good match for all, we will collect the adoption fee and complete the adoption contract. CVRR is a NO KILL rescue organization, and we have a LIFETIME COMMITMENT to all of our animals. If for any reason the adoption does not work out, the animal must be returned to CVRR. We will reevaluate the animal and choose a new home based on the best fit for it. November 19, 2024, 2:59 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.   Russell is looking for a family to give him some structure and hopefully a dog friend. He was adopted out last year and returned recently. When he came in, he was very scared. Our amazing staff, working with a local dog trainer has helped Russell turn things around. He has calmed down and is responding well to his training and play group. He has the look that folks seem to hope for—compact (43.6 pounds), black Lab mix with white socks. He is old enough (5 years) to have learned plenty of life's lessons but is still young enough to be curious and willing to learn.Russell was originally found traveling a dangerous highway by a good Samaritan. He came to us confused and frightened. At first, he would shiver and slouch into a corner but is quickly learning to love visits. He keeps his room tidy and appreciates his comfy bed. He is quiet and rarely barks. In the evening, he looks forward to a Kong chew toy with a treat smeared inside. Fill out our online application to find out more about him. Whoever adopts Russell wil have a free training session with our training partners at Camp Merricks to help with the transition and his continued confidence building.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.    November 7, 2024, 5:54 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.   Four-year-old Jaxson thought he was just being a freewheeling venturer before getting picked-up for being unlicensed. No one claimed him, so we gave him a place to wait until he finds a home. While he has been with us, he has been neat in his room, and wriggles with delight when anyone stops to give him some love. We've got a serious tail-wagger here. This compact (40 pound), muscular dog is all set to learn what is expected of him. He has already learning to sit when directed and also to wait before a door is opened. When asked, he behaves well while on leash walks. He seemed to want to play with dog-curious kitties, but he could be overwhelming for some kitties.. Jaxson is the clean-cut yellow of a Labrador. And by the look of his charcoal lips, he may have some Black-mouth Cur (Old Yeller type dog) in his bloodline. We don’t know his mix for sure, but we know for sure that he is smart and good-looking.*update: on a recent outing to a lake-- Jaxson was perfect in the car and didn't blink an eye at the noisy pond geese. But, he couldn't get enough of meeting new people. Loving people is his favorite pastime. Jaxson always seems to look on the bright side of things. Bring him into your life to see the world from his optimistic viewpoint.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.    November 21, 2024, 6:30 am

Story
Blitzen ... AKA Blitz ... Blitzy ... Blitzen was rescued in a group of 14 puppies. He was adopted into a loving home but sadly, was returned through no fault of his own. A family member is allergic to his dander, so the heartbreaking decision was made to find him a new home. Blitzen is a very sweet confused boy. He needs someone to take time to show him everything is going to be okay and that he is loved. Blitzen is house trained, seems to ride well in a car, but not so sure he wants to get in, and is not a fan of the crate. He lived in a home with 2 children, walks well on a leash, but when he gets excited, (squirrel, other dog) he will pull. He is still a puppy, a big puppy. Blitzen still needs training with a firm but loving hand. I was his foster before he was adopted, he was such a gentle sweet boy and he still is. Blitzen once again finds himself looking for his forever home. He is a super sweet pup playful and loving unfortunately he and the resident cat did not form a relationship. Blitzen has lived with a dog and does play with another foster but a meet and greet would be required if another dog lived in his future home. Let’s find Blitzen a great home!!! Blitzen is up to date on all his medical, microchipped, neutered and heartworm negative. All he needs now is a home. For information please call BHS at 540-586-6100, or go to https//www.bhsva.org/adoptables to fill out an adoption application.
