Story
Beans is a family dog we've had since a pup. My daughter no longer wants him and I can't keep him due to restrictions where I live. He has been registered as an emotional support dog, but his hyperactive behavior around ppl scares them. He loves ppl. He is an inside dog who loves the outdoors and being able to run freely. I am unable to do this due to my living situation. My kids are a little older, so they do rough house with him but he is good around younger kids and other dogs. He needs to be with someone who loves hiking and swimming. A closed in area for him to run and play, (he does not like to be tied up in the yard).

Story
Meet Ivy! This gorgeous girl is around 1-2 years old. We are unsure what she is mixed with, but we are guessing she has some husky in her due to her antics. She is such a sweet girl and SUPER energetic. She would love a family that goes to the lake, river or has a pool, she is a MAJOR water dog. She is looking for a super active family that can take her on long walks and plenty of adventures. She has done well with dogs she has met here but meet and greets are required. She would do well with children as long as she does get her energy out just due to the jumping around as she can be a wrecking ball at times. If interested in Ivy, the shelter is open Monday-Friday from 10am-3pm pending on if staff is in the building. You can also call the shelter at 804-520-9397 ext. 5 to set up an appointment!

Story
Meet Louie! This handsome hunk was a stray and was never claimed and he is now looking for his furever home. Louie is a BIG boy and could use to lose a few pounds. With that in mind Louie is a very strong boy. He is super sweet and loves to play with toys. His favorite toy is the tennis ball. He does sometimes get protective over his ball so that will need to be worked on further as we are working with him on that here at the shelter. He has done well with dogs he has met here at the shelter that are not reactive themselves, cat test is still pending.

Story
The king of expressive looks and head tilts, Bufred is poised to win your heart! Bufred loves to play and run outside but he’s quick to settle in and get comfy once inside. He loves affection and will lay his big, handsome head in your lap for a good snuggle sesh on the couch. This sweet boy is happy going for walks, playing in the yard, relaxing at home, pulling every single toy out at one time, and taking naps on his back. Bufred is house trained, is getting very good at “come” and improving with “sit,” walks well with minimal pulling, and is an excellent car rider. At 5-6 years of age, Bufred is just the sweetest boy who loves human attention but can take some time warming up to some men. He is less comfortable around pushy, high energy dogs. He will tolerate other dogs, vocalizing his feelings when needed, but mostly he’s indifferent and co-existing. Bufred hasn’t lost touch with his natural instincts and has a fairly strong prey drive. He’ll do best in a home with no other types of pets he could chase. It’s hard not to fall for Bufred’s loving, silly charm! He’s a fast learner and eager to please. He’ll thrive in a home in a low-traffic neighborhood with a yard and patient humans who can help him adjust as he grows to become your most loyal and loving family member. If you open your heart and home to this big fella you will be rewarded with love and laughter for years to come! Must knows: Bufred, 5-6 year old black male, 87 lbs Dog friendly No cats Kids unknown Medium energy level

Story
Hiya friends, my name is Gus. I am a playful one year old dog’s dog and I really love to play with other four legged friends! Playing chase and wrestling with my K-9 buddies is the highlight of my day. I can be a little nervous in new situations and need just a little time to warm up. I will try my very best if you give me lots of encouragement. I am more confident when I’m with my buddies. A quick “you got this, Gus!” is the key to my heart. I am so excited to meet my forever family so they can teach me everything I need to know. I am very dog friendly and submissive - I really enjoy their companionship. My new house is required to have a pup friend for me so I can gain lots of confidence! I also am cat friendly - I am the most loving guy once I settle in. When meeting new people I can be a little timid but I have been told, I am a gentleman! I have been learning a lot with my foster family and have almost mastered “sit!” I am food motivated. This is good because it will help me during training. As the resident good boy, I have been described as submissive, loveable and playful. I love to be around my people, go for adventure walks, play with toys and other pup friends. MUST KNOW: Gus, 1 year old, male Dog friendly - required to have a buddy Cat friendly Kid friendly, 8+ Medium energy
