Meet Zeus — short legs and a big heart 💛 At 3 years old and 55 lbs, Zeus is the perfect blend of Labrador Retriever charm and Basset Hound personality—think classic yellow Lab good looks, but on adorably shortened legs. We like to say he’s built for comfort, not speed! Zeus is incredibly sweet and loving, with a gentle soul that just wants to feel safe and adored. He can be a bit shy and timid when first meeting new people or in new environments, but give him a little time and patience, and you’ll see his affectionate, loyal personality shine through. Once he trusts you, he’s all in—quiet companionship, soft tail wags, and those soulful eyes that say everything. He would truly thrive in a home with another confident, friendly dog to show him the ropes and help him build confidence. Having a canine buddy makes him feel more secure and brings out his playful, happy side. The good news? Zeus already has all the basics down. He’s crate trained, quiet, fully vetted, and neutered—ready to settle right into his forever home. If you’re looking for a low-key, loving companion with a unique look and an even sweeter personality, Zeus might just be your perfect match. After all, even the king of the gods deserves a cozy couch and a family to call his own 🐾

Story
Meet Baby and Leah!  Two sweet girls desperately in need of a forever home.  These girls came from a loving home; they were well taken care of and have been together for years.  Unfortunately, their owner passed away after spending several months in the hospital.  They have remained together at a local boarding facility (Animal House) where they have received daily love, exercise and care, keeping them happy, healthy and ready for their next chapter in life.  They are both up to date on core vaccines (Rabies, Bordetella and DAPP) and they recently had healthy pet exams. Baby is a spayed female, black lab mix, 5 ½ years old, weighing approximately 45lbs.  She has lots of energy, she loves to run and play with her sister Leah, and she is the cutest thing ever when she gets the zoomies. Leah is a spayed female, golden ridgeback mix, 7 ½ years old, weighing approximately 45lbs.  Her energy level is a little lower than Baby’s, but she too loves to play and romp around. They both have been tested with other dogs and seem to make friends quickly.  They love people and enjoy getting lots of rubs and attention.  Tolerance with cats and children is unknown. It’s time for these two lovely girls to find a place they can call home.  It is preferred that they stay together. Please contact Jennifer Klevins, General Manager of Animal House of Jacksonville at 910-353-2684 or at jennifer.klevins@villagepet.com.

Story
Tara was taken to the shelter when her owner was sentenced. She's a sweet, approx 13 year young, lab mix. She came to us with a large mass which we had removed and analyzed. Fortunately, it was benign and Tara is now finishing up healing from that surgery. Tara loves to hang out with her humans. She will play a bit but prefers to have a soft lap to rest her head on. She does love to walk (within reason) and enjoys hanging out outside and just watching the world happen. If you're looking for a gal that just wants to hang out, spend her time getting belly rubs from her human, and just plain loving an easy-going life, then she's your gal! She does well with other pups, however will only play for a little bit before she's done and just wants to go back for her treats and belly rubs. This girl has so much love still to give! Won't you give her a chance?
