Story
Sophie is a 6 year old lab/border colie mix. We rescued her at age 1. She's a total couch potato who loves to relax, but she still gets excited for walks and does great on a leash—she just wants to be right by her person’s side. She loves her toys, never turns down a tasty treat, and will gladly soak up all the belly rubs you can give. She is incredibly sweet, cuddly, and very much a “Velcro dog”. She’s also a naturally protective companion, always keeping an eye out while staying loyal to her favorite people. Sophie is a very loving girl, but she does have some anxiety and experiences separation anxiety. She would thrive in a calm, predictable environment with no kids and will need a patient adopter who understands that she may take a little time to fully settle in and feel safe. When she was first rescued, Sophie was diagnosed with Lyme disease. She has already been treated and does not require any ongoing treatment, but it may still show up on routine lab work.

Story
Hi, I am looking to rehome this sweet dog, Marley. I found her 2 years ago abandoned in a park. She was not micro-chipped, and I took her to the animal shelter to find her owner. Since no one claimed her and she didn't have a home, I brought her home with me. I already have two dogs at home. Marley got along well with my male boxer, but she does not get along with my female pit. Marley is a very loving dog and would do much better in a single-dog household.

Story
Bernie is a 115 lb Lab/Shepherd mix located in Louisville (Jeffersontown area). He is neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccines. Bernie is a loving, loyal boy who enjoys walks and being with his person. He’s medium energy — playful at times but mostly a laid-back lounger. He’s grown up with my son since he was a baby and is good with kids. He has experience living with dogs and cats. Bernie is house-trained, crate-trained (his safe space), knows basic commands, and is good on and off leash. He does have separation anxiety and would do best in a home where someone is around most of the day. He takes trazodone when left alone. No other health issues. He’ll come with his crate, bed, heartworm prevention, and supplies. Rehoming due to my work schedule — I want him to have the time and attention he deserves.

Story
I'm Penny and am very pleased to meet you! I'm a beautiful pure Golden Retriever, 4+ years old. I came to GRRAND in early 2022, so I have been in the kennel for a while. I can be a bit grouchy if you try and take one of my prize possessions away from me, usually a stick, but my close kennel buddies know to trick me with a treat for my stick! It works out beautifully, and don't tell them, but honestly, I get the better deal . Oh, and they said if anyone wanted to take me home they would teach them the same trick! I do love it at the kennel! I get love, two meals a day, and have a warm bed of my own in my 6' x 6' cozy kennel run. I even have a glass door to look out of; Tyg and Adam are across the way so we have nice conversations when the kennel team isn't around. I get to go outside with my favorite people at least three times a day. We play in the yard, go for walks, and sometimes go on field trips to the park and Starbucks. I love going to the pool in the summer, but my favorite is office time where I get to be petted and do stimulation games (and earn treats)! But my kennel guy seems sad these days; He says I'm getting 'institutionalized' at the kennel. I don't mind being in my cozy kennel run 20 hours a day, but he says I deserve better, like a home with people who love me and who will spend time with me. We have a radio at the kennel (Christmas carols playing now), but he says I should be able to watch Hallmark movies and Animal Planet on TV, whatever that is!! I think I'm his favorite, but don't tell Tyg! So just to make him happy I guess I'm ready to go home with a great person or couple this Christmas. I have been at the kennel for almost 1000 days so going to a loving home would be an amazing Christmas gift. I realize I'm not 'Buddy The Elf' but the wonderful team at GRRAND love me (and I them) and they are committed to finding the right home for me and giving the family the right tools and education to make my adoption a success. Please consider fostering or adopting me in the very near future. Merry Christmas, Love Penny XOXO Penny is an absolutely beautiful 3 year old Golden Retriever who needs a very specific home! Please read all about her needs before applying! Penny is happy, tail wagging, and if she knows you, extremely friendly! After coming to GRRAND, we learned she had resource guarding tendencies, and she spent time with our excellent trainers and behaviourists to evaluate her needs. What we have learned is that Penny does resource guard certain items, and she can be sensitive around her head. Our kennel manager has spent a lot of time with Penny, and they have a close bond. He reports that Penny takes awhile to be comfortable and trust a person, but when she does trust you, she's an awesome dog who is very loyal and loving. We have a small team who handle her daily, and she loves to play and run outside, go for walks, do mental stimulation games (she is very smart!), and hang out in the office with her person. Penny needs the right home with a dog-savvy family who understands how dogs communicate. She will give a warning (ex. growl) if something is going on she doesn't like. This is Penny’s way of telling us she wants us to stop doing something, which is great! Her home must have no children or other animals, either in the home or visiting (e.g., grandchildren who come over). We would do a slow introduction period with several visits to the kennel and to her potential home to help build a bond, along with resource guarding training so we are sure the adopter/foster knows Penny's triggers and how to deal with them. And, as a young Golden, Penny will need plenty of high-quality exercise. If you are looking for a dog to take to family gatherings or breweries, Penny is not for you. But if you want to truly rescue a dog that just needs patience, understanding, love and training, Penny will reward you with an abundance of love and loyalty If you think you could be a good fit for Penny, please submit an application so you can connect and learn more! grrand.org/adopt grrand.org/foster-a-golden-retriever-with-grrand GRRAND dogs are looking for homes in Greater Louisville, Greater Lexington, and Greater Cincinnati and Dayton. Story
Jet is a 4.5 year old, 70ish lb, male Golden Retriever who came to GRRAND mid-March 2025. looking for a home where he is the only dog, no cats and no kids under the age of 16. His family has made the very hard decision to re-home Jet as his resource guarding is a concern with kids around for fear of the unknown. He displayed resource guarding behaviours and has been with a behaviorist since intake. We are now ready to provide more training for Jet once we have an experienced dog owner home willing to work with the trainer and Jet. However, he is able to safely participate in structured daycare settings and supervised dog meetups, provided no toys or high-value resources are present. Jett is a dog who requires clear structure, consistency, and informed handling. With proper management and adherence to protocol, he is capable of living a stable, safe, and fulfilled life in the appropriate home. Our trainer will work with you to aid in a successful transition into your home. Jet is house-trained, crate-trained and usually went to work daily with his person, so he was not left home alone much. We are told "He has had obedience training and he knows all the basic commands and a few fun ones. Jet resource guards toys and we have tried numerous training for the resource guarding, but have had no luck. He is really chill and happy, and likes to run in the yard and smell around." GRRAND is still learning about Jet, but if you would like to inquire about him, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org   ##2397614##

Story
Dom came to the kennel in mid-December after being taken in by a shelter after he was found running loose with another dog, and they were out of room and called GRRAND. He is a 2 year old sweet, gentle giant, mostly Golden Retriever, but mixed with another large breed dog. He currently weighs almost 90 lbs, but needs to pack on another 10 lbs. We are told "Dom is an expressive, social dog with a confident personality and a lot to say. He enjoys being engaged with his people and thrives when included in daily routines. Dom is curious, enthusiastic, and brings energy into any space he enters. He would do best in a home that enjoys interaction, communication, and an outgoing companion who wants to be part of the action." We think he'd do best in a home where people are around a lot of the time. He falls in love with his people quickly, and will cry when we leave him! He loves to be petted. He loves most other dogs (not dominant male dogs). He plays every day with Solara and Aurora! We are walking him off premise and he does great on leash. He's had no accidents in his kennel run despite the suspicion we have that he spent most of his time outdoors before coming to us. We are still learning about Dom, but we know he's ready to go to a forever home (or foster) and if you would like to meet him, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org ##2612679##
