Story
This is an urgent need. We are looking for a foster, re-home or Surrender ASAP due to owner's health. Beau is a great dog that needs a stable home environment. He was hit by a car as a puppy, had a broken leg and lost his left eye. The original owner was a foster "fail" from Jacksonville Humane Society. The original owner died 2 years ago, and her son has been taking care of Beau. Beau's anxiety has increased over the last several years as his home has been uprooted again when they moved to Milwaukee over a year ago. Temperament: Beau is very sweet, gentle, and loving. He is great with kids, and he has been around a kid ages infant to 4 years old. He is good on the leash and knows basic commands. Good with other dogs. In fact, he might do better in a household that has another dog. Health: He has anxiety about being alone and does not like being crated and is very vocal about it. From time to time his anal glands need to be expressed.

Story
Sushi is being fostered in CT. Sushi loves to cuddle and would love to have her own person and family; however she would do best as an only dog so she can get all the love to herself. She travels great in the car and will either sit on your lap for a short trip or in the backseat with a doggy car seat. She is housetrained and will go to the door to let you know she has to go potty. She eats like a champ and takes her insulin well. She also does great at the vet and loves her vet clinic friends. She sleeps through the night and is very easy going. Sushi is not interested in toys but loves to chew on vet approved bones. She loves to sleep on the couch with a comfy blanket, and she uses dog steps to get on. She can safely jump down as long as the floor is not slippery. I have a dog stroller for Sushi and she happily will sit in it and go for a ride or sleep in it when I am sitting at the computer. She enjoys going for short walks and gets excited when you put her leash on! She also does a very funny trot out in the backyard. BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Story
If you're looking for a spunky, intelligent pup with loads of personality and the most insanely cute ears, Erin is the one for you! We are desperately hoping someone out there will fall in love with this little firecracker, just as our volunteers have. She originally came to us back in October from Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC), after multiple adoptions and returns. Sadly, she has repeated that trend with us, being adopted out last fall and returned to SFTS in April. Since her return in April, she has only received 2 applications, and we are noticing her behavior start to change after so many months in the shelter. Erin is a wonderful little Jack Russell mix around 5 years old. She is potty trained, crate trained, and absolutely loves going on adventures. Erin has had many doggy day outs with our volunteers and weekend stays with our fosters, and everyone raves about how wonderful she is away from the shelter and in a home. Unfortunately, when we show her to adopters she acts disinterested, which isn't received well by potential adopters. As is true with many shelter animals, Erin experiences a fair amount of kennel stress, which results in her being a bit overwhelmed during meetings with new people. But when given some time away from the shelter to decompress, she quickly warms up and becomes the most loving, sweet girl with goofy antics. The other major hurdle for Erin is her reactivity to other dogs. She needs to be the only pup in the house, but can easily go on walks and pass other dogs when given enough space. Erin is easily motivated, and smart as a whip. Her reactivity is manageable, especially given her size, but we're sure she will make even more progress with some individualized training outside of the stressful shelter environment. With a dog as cute as her, why would you want to share your attention with another pup?! Our staff and volunteers are noticing a considerable decline in Erin's mental health and general attitude after months in the shelter. Although we provide her with daily enrichment, lots of time in the yard, multiple walks each day, and frequent weekends away or doggy days out, each time she ends up back at the shelter and we fear she is feeling defeated. We need to find an adopter for Erin, and give her the loving home she deserves. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on age appropriate vaccines. If you're interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website at sftsrescue.org/adoptableanimals
