Story
Sandy is the sweetest, snuggliest of them all. She loves relaxing days, neighborhood walks, and stretching her legs on the sofa for movie night. She loves to be wrapped up like a burrito in a blanket. She’s a low-maintenance companion who is happiest when with her people. She does well when boarded or with caregivers when her humans are out of town and is friendly with other dogs and people. She is housetrained. Sandy will bark when left alone, so she would do best with someone at home during the day. Keep this in mind if you live in an apartment setting because you don’t want to irritate your neighbors. Sandy is not destructive and doesn’t have accidents when left alone, but she will bark and howl. When someone is with her, she is very quiet, a gentle soul who loves snuggling. Sandy is currently on medication to help reduce her anxiety related to being left alone, but she needs an owner who is patient and understands she needs time to learn that being alone is okay.

My name is Taz. I’m a 10-year-old Jack Russell mix who’s learning to open up to the world around me. Life didn’t start off easy for me, but I’m looking forward to a safe, happy future in a loving home.PersonalityI’m a bit nervous around new people and situations, but I find comfort in being with my brother, Tom. I like to follow his lead and sometimes hide behind him when I’m feeling unsure. With gentle encouragement, I’m beginning to enjoy my foster mom’s pets and kind gestures.Energy LevelI’m quite a calm guy who’s content to stay in my little spot. A quiet home with a peaceful environment would be ideal for me as I build confidence.Skills and TrainingI’m still learning the basics like leash walking and potty training, but my foster mom says I’m making progress. I’ll need a family who can be patient with me and help me develop these new skills at my own pace.CompanionshipI would do best with a quiet, patient family who can help me feel safe and secure. With time and understanding, I’ll continue to come out of my shell and show my gentle, sweet nature.Love and AffectionI may be a bit shy at first, but I have a lot of love to give once I feel safe. I’m learning every day that affection is a good thing, and I’m beginning to trust the gentle hands of my foster mom. ADOPT ME ONLINE: https://ophrescue.org/dogs/13945Meet Tom – Your Gentle Companion with a Heart Ready to Heal Name: Tom Gender: Male Breed: Jack Russell Mix Age: 10 years Weight: 14 lbs Current Location: King William, VA About Tom Hi! I’m Tom, a 10-year-old Jack Russell mix with a gentle soul and a lot of love to give. My early years weren’t easy, but thanks to my foster mom, I’m learning to trust humans and embrace my new, happy life. Personality I’m a bit of a quiet, reserved gentleman, but each day I grow more comfortable with affection and attention. My foster mom says I’m blossoming and am even starting to enjoy pets and the occasional cuddle. I’m looking for a calm, patient home where I can continue to build my confidence and know I’m safe and loved. Energy Level I’m moderately active and love a good walk, though I still get a little nervous when the leash comes out. I’m also a bit of a jumper, so a tall fence would be great to keep me safe while I explore the yard. Skills and TrainingWhile I’m still working on potty training, I’m making progress every day. Since so much of this is new to me, I’ll need a family that understands my journey and can patiently support my growth. Companionship My ideal home would be a quiet, gentle one, with someone who has a soft touch and the time to help me grow into my best self. I’ve discovered that I love being around people once I get to know them and would be so happy to find a forever family who’s ready for a calm, loyal companion. Love and Affection I’m learning each day that life is better with love, and I can’t wait to share that with my new family! Could that be you? Story
Please contact Diane Pedulla (dianep@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.small sweetie ready to play! SAM NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!   Name:  Sam      Best Guess for Breed: Jack Russell terrier and chihuahua mix   Best Guess for Age:   2 years as of April 2024       SEX: Male   Approximate Weight:  23 lbs   Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats but he can be tested. Sam cannot go to a home with kids under age 15.   Currently Living at:  DC area foster   Check out this video of Sam: https://youtube.com/shorts/N-9ZEnGu1XM?si=Vof5zYEnwQRfa8Iq   Special adoption considerations: Sam is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!   Sam needs to go to a home with a resident dog to help him gain more confidence. he cannot go to a home with kids under age 15. Sam is nervous around men and tries to resource guard the things he values. We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.   Sam is Looking For:   His forever home! This cutie, through no fault of his own, landed in the shelter. He's looking forward to his new chapter, eagerly awaiting all the sniffy walks he will get with his new humans, romps in the park, and all the adventures they can dream up. He's out of the puppy yips and as a wise, experienced dog, knows what's most important in life: Being safe and loved and under his own roof, and that's right at the top of his wish list. Right now, he's shy and unsure in new environments, so he needs extra patient and loving adopters who will help him become more confident in new places, and a welcoming resident dog who will show him how to dog! In exchange, he offers all the adoring gazes and happy tail wags he's stockpiling at the shelter and loyal companionship for all his days. What do you say? Can you see Sam trotting by your side? What My Foster Says About Me: Sam is adjusting very well and becoming more confident every day. He is still shy when outside and will stay close on walks while he frequently looks at you. He understands going to the bathroom outside but has his favorite places to go - #1 is the dog park!   Inside he is more bouncy and playful. He does have a rougher play style but hasn’t been destructive with anything. He gets along well with the resident dog and they play a lot. I would describe his energy level as medium+. He gets nervous when he sees big dogs and wants to observe them before greeting.   He is learning house manners, basic commands, and takes gentle corrections well. He does very well in the crate and will settle when asked. He loves giving and receiving affection and has the potential to be a snuggler given time and patience so he can fully relax in his environment.   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament.   Thank you for contacting Lucky Dog Animal Rescue and helping to save a life!  Please visit us online at    www.luckydoganimalrescue.org   .    BE A FOSTER!!!    Fosters make it possible for Lucky Dog Animal Rescue to save and care for homeless and abandoned dogs!  To learn about fostering, please contact    fostering@luckydoganimalrescue.org   ! Our Popeye may not have superhuman strength (like the cartoon character), but he sure has super canine cuteness! He is basically like a canine toddler, who finds everything you do fascinating, so he wants to be a part of it. He enjoys other dogs to play with, toys to chew on, walks, with you by his side, and any and all attention you offer him. He is a true lap dog and reserves the right to yours every evening. This puppy is crate trained and house trained already. Sleeps through the night. His happy place is by you on the couch or your bed. Story
If you're looking for brains and beauty, you've found your girl! Cheyenne is a 27 pound spirited one-year-old Jack Russel mix with a heart full of love and energy! We don't really have any idea what her breed is, but given how hard working she is, we're guessing some sort of terrier. Being a tripod does not hold this girl back! She's still incredibly agile and athletic. Her current foster is an experienced dog trainer who has loved working with Cheyenne because she is eager to learn and follow. The foster will pass her on with a dictionary of commands, including ones that make her go to her crate, stay in her place, and heel! She can actually walk off leash! Watch the video in her bio to see for yourself! Basically, she'll do anything for food. Since she's a quick learner, she would love a family that wants to continue to work her brain and her body. She is house-trained, crate-trained, and walks well on a leash. So basically, all the hard work has already been done to make this pup perfect! She would do fine in a home with other respectable dogs but would also do well as an only dog. She doesn't need a huge yard, as long as she gets regular mental and physical exercise. Cheyenne is spayed and up-to-date on vaccines. The adoption fee for this dog is $425 which includes routine vetting and spay/neuter. PetConnect Rescue cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care. The breed listed is based on any background we may have been provided, and the general appearance of the animal at the time they enter our system. Story
Simba is a playful, sweet, four-year-old Jack Russell Terrier mix. How can you resist that face. He is housebroken and in excellent health. He would love to show you all the tricks he can do. Simba needs a large fenced-in yard and another playful small dog for a playmate. As a young dog he still has abundant puppy energy. He hasn't been around small children, but loved the teenagers in his former family. Cats are a mystery, but he is a Jack Russell soooooooooo, maybe not. If you want a fun-loving dog that is a great ball player, Simba might be the dog for you. Simba is neutered and up-to-date on vaccines. The adoption fee for this dog is $425 which includes routine vetting and spay/neuter. PetConnect Rescue cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care. Right here waiting! My name is Little Girl, and I'm a sweet young girl with a steel gray coat and expressive eyes. I am a loving little dog who likes to stay close to my person. I am looking for an adult home where I can be your one and only so I can be the center of your attention. I can be a little timid when meeting new people. I warm with a soft approach and a gentle voice, but it can take a little bit. It has been reported by my previous owner that I have excellent house manners and can be a real sweetheart. I would benefit from taking it slow and learning new things at a comfortable pace. So if you think we can be a match, come on down to the shelter so we can meet. I will be waiting!
