Story
Canelle is an 8 year old Alaskan mix that we recently rescued from the dog sledding industry. She is the sweetest and most gentlesst girl you'll meet. She is very calm when in the house, but has a very energetic side when she hits the outdoors. Canelle loves being outside in the fresh air, smelling her surroundings. She loves going for walks and loves them so much she wants to go as fast as she can! She does pull for the first 10 minutes of her walks but then calms down once she figures out there is no rush and no need to run. She realizes she can stop and smell the roses! Canelle is great with kids and oves attention from children of all sizes. She loves when they give her belly rubs. Canelle is great with other dogs of all sizes. She will occasionally let out a small low growl if there is a very excited dog in her face but will just turn and walk away. She has never shown any real aggression towards other pups. Even on our walks when we meet new dogs, she shows no aggression. She just keeps on her merry way! Canelle is great in her crate. She never tries to escape the crate, it’s her safe space. She actually loves to cuddle up inside a lot of the time. When we are gone we leave the crate closed and she does great. When we are home the door of her crate is always open so she can come and go when she pleases! She does great with a dog bed and does not chew it. Canelle has been really great with house training. She has only had one accident in the house on the first day she came to us which was from her anxiety, but she has been amazing ever since. Canelle can hold her bladder through the night. When we go outside she knows what to do! Canelle loves soft dog toys but eventually puts a hole in it, so she does go through them! She is a leisurely eater. She will eat when she's hungry and only if she's hungry. She will however take treats whenever offered! This girl will be the most loving addition to her forever home! She is spayed, dewormed, microchipped and up to date with vaccines. Her adoption fee is $400. If you’re interested in adopting her please fill out an adoption form.

Meet Yoko, a 7 year old Alaskan mix we recently rescued from the dog sledding industry. Yoko is not just incredibly smart but also affectionate, loving nothing more than leaning into you for some cuddles. He's a true companion, happiest when he's with his people, ready to join in on hours-long adventures or simply curl up at your feet for a relaxing day indoors. Yoko walks like a dream on a leash, with minimal pulling and a graceful trot that makes it look like he's floating. While he can be strong, especially when walking he will pull harder when he sees other dogs, but he’s just excited. His main priority is always his person. Yoko's confidence shines when he's with someone he trusts, with his tail held high and a spring in his step. However, he can become reserved and anxious when separated from them. He enjoys playing with squeaky toys and has shown interest in using a Kong, although he can be a bit picky with his food. Some tasty gravy or a mix of kibble and raw food might do the trick! Yoko has been calm around cats but hasn’t come in direct contact with them. So a slow introduction is always best. Yoko is eagerly waiting to become someone's new best friend! Yoko will soon be neutered, is microchipped and up to date with vaccines. His adoption fee is $500. If you’re interested in adopting him please fill out an adoption form

Introducing Boston, the ultimate buddy for dogs and people alike! Boston is a social butterfly, getting along great with other dogs, although he hasn't met any cats yet. He's fantastic with kids and teens, spreading love wherever he goes. Although he started off shy, he's blossomed into a playful pup who adores attention and enjoys playing with toys. He's mostly house-trained, with just a few accidents along the way. He sleeps right through the night on his cozy bed. Boston loves the outdoors, especially watching birds and squirrels, and enjoys his walks, even though he can be a bit of a puller. He's still getting used to different noises but is curious about everything around him. With his beautiful brown eyes and loving nature, Boston is sure to steal your heart. Boston’s adoption fee is $500. He has been dewormed, is microchipped, is UTD on vaccines and will soon be neutered. If you're interested in adopting him please fill out an adoption form

Story
Hi everyone, my name is Rosette but my foster mom calls me Rosie. I’ve been crossing my paws every night in hopes of finding my furever home. I am an Alaskan mix, and finally got the chance to retire from the dog sledding industry. So much has changed for me which has been exciting but pretty scary and confusing. After living outside on a chain for 8 yrs, and having to withstand both extreme cold and hot temperatures every day, I can honestly say I don’t mind laying on my own bed and just watching the snow and rain fall from inside. I have been living with my foster mom now for over a month and I only had one accident, but I had an upset tummy then. I always go to the door to let my humans know it’s potty time. I love these tasty things called treats and my foster mom says I’m incredibly gentle and polite when I take it from her hand. I am unsure of these things they call toys and what to do with them, but, I do have a small red squeak toy that I bury in my bed every night and then I like to pat down my bed, its so comfy and I sleep all night. My manners are excellent in the house but when I go outside on walks, I get so nervous of all the loud noises I’ve never heard before so I pull very hard on my leash to get back home and onto my comfy couch. I think I just have to get used to the noises and eventually I’ll realize more and more that those sounds can’t hurt me. I have a foster brother named Jake, he’s ok for a Shihtzu I guess, but he barks so loud and I’m so quiet. I also have a foster dad too, I’m still pretty shy of him, he can pet me but I’m taking a while to really let my guard down with everyone. A definitely prefer a more quiet household. Rosette will be spayed on May 13th. She is dewormed, UTD on vaccines and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $400. If you’re interested in adopting her please fill out an application

Story
Ho ho ho! Santa, here! Yes - Santa - like the old man in the suit! I’m not an old man, though (I’m only 2), and I don’t wear a suit (cause I’m a husky-malamute, silly), but I will bring your family Christmas cheer all year long! Here are some presents I will bring to your home if you pick me: I am house and crate trained. I do mark in the house to start, but I am not yet neutered (we are working on that), so this behaviour will likely change once that’s done. I know how to sit, lay down, and shake a paw. I am a very social boy and love other dogs and people (cats, probably not cause I love to chase rabbits and birds outside). Gosh, do I love people!! I will jump up to give you kisses when I first meet you (though I am told not everyone likes that, so we are working on manners). I also really want to be a lap dog! And walking? Well that’s just the best thing ever, isn’t it? I walk well on a gentle leader and am still learning leash skills. I would be a fantastic running buddy if you’re into that! And the best gift of all is that I am very trainable! I’m so eager to please, I will do absolutely anything for treats and attention. I'm ready and willing to learn if you're ready to have me!

**IF THIS LISTING IS STILL POSTED THIS DOG IS STILL AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. NO NEED TO EMAIL ASKING IF THE DOG IS AVAILABLE. PLEASE READ THROUGH THIS BIO THOROUGHLY AS INFORMATION ON HOW TO APPLY IS CONTAINED IN THIS LISTING** If you are looking for an already well-mannered and well behaved dog, we would like to introduce you to this amazing 1yr old Husky X named Meadow! Meadow was rescued by our friends at Save a Dog Network Canada from Northern Manitoba and came to us for her chance at a loving forever home. Meadow has the typical Husky markings with some light spotted markings from midway and back on the sides of her body that look almost like leopard markings but her size/frame is very petite. She weighs 45lbs and is about full grown size. She has the sweetest little face and what we call very dainty features! Meadow currently has patchy, thin fur due to poor nutrition and tough living in her past life, but it will grow to be the full and soft fur of the Husky breed in time now that she is on quality food. Meadow’s ears are the fluffiest part of her, they are brown on the back, and tend to be always up and on alert. She has big golden eyebrows that are just the cutest. Since Meadow came to us she has already learned how to sit, shake a paw, lay down and she will even sit and do pretty paws for a treat! We are working on a few more tricks to put in her travel bag for her forever home. Meadow is amazingly smart and eager to learn, she has a great attention span when trying to teach her new things when treats are involved. But when it comes to her sense of tracking, forget it LOL, her listening skills are gone, she is on the hunt for whatever she smells or sees especially squirrels/rabbits or small rodents whether they are on the ground or in a tree! She has a high prey drive. We are assuming this is how she survived and fed herself while she was running alone in Manitoba, so it is still embedded in her. Hopefully with time and training she will realize that her food doesn’t come from the sky or ground. Her listening skills are not so good when she is tracking, so she will definitely need some consistent training with her recall. She cannot be trusted off leash outside of a secure fenced area. She will sit at the fence and look up at the trees for what seems like forever just content in her own happy little world. But when her nose is to the ground in a fenced yard and she gets the scent of something she is like PacMan racing to get those dots, and will just go and go and go from one corner to another searching for whatever it is she smells. It’s actually quite entertaining to watch. Meadow will greatly benefit from obedience training to help build and refine her commands and leash manners. It’s also an excellent way to strengthen the bond between you and her. Meadow will zone in and pull slightly on the leash when she sees a squirrel but you can easily get her to move forward with a pop of the leash and keep walking without it being too much of a struggle. She has yet to try to chase any squirrels up the trees so we feel this is a good sign of how well she does walk on the leash! The one and only time that Meadow did any kind of forceful pulling was when we saw a cat on a walk, she desperately wanted to see what it was!!! She is not cat tested, and with her strong prey drive, her ideal home should be cat, and other small animal, free. Considering she has never been leashed and walked before Meadow does absolutely amazing on walks and is loving her outdoor adventures and being able to sniff everything. She doesn’t pull much at all and walks well with our other two dogs. She doesn’t bother much with other people or dogs on walks but will happily greet them if you let her. She does not lack confidence on walks. She has met many other dogs on our walks without any issue or signs of aggression or reactivity. She is a little wary of strangers at first, but doesn’t take long to warm up. Meadow is definitely food motivated and knows the sound of our treat container now. She’ll sit with her foster siblings every time they come inside to receive their treats after doing their business. She eats twice daily (morning and evening). She is currently getting a fish oil (omega 3) supplement with meals which has seemed to have helped her skin and coat immensely , she does not appear to have any food sensitivities. Upon her first arrival she showed some resource guarding with food, but not toys. This has improved significantly, and only occasionally will still guard food. She needs to be feed separately if you have another dog in your home. She now gets fed in front of her crate with the door open, She is not a fast eater, and will lay down to eat most times. She takes treats very gently without snapping or grabbing at your hand. Meadow would do well in a home with a nice natured male dog but would like to be the only female dog in the home. She will also do well being the only dog and getting all of the attention for herself. Meadow is fully house trained and has had NO accidents from the day she came into our home. She sits at the back door and we let her out or occasionally she might paw at the door. Meadow is crate trained and sleeps in her crate at night quietly with absolutely no issues. She will sleep from whatever time you put her in until the time you wake up, and sometimes won’t come out right away when you open the door in the morning until she does her morning stretches. During the day we’ll crate her when we leave and occasionally just for some quiet time for a few hours, we’ll put her kong and some treats in with her. Sometimes she will protest a little bit for her daytime crating but will settle after a few minutes. She will often just go into her crate on her own for an afternoon nap with the door open. Meadow LOVES toys, especially anything that squeaks, bones, balls and ropes. Basically anything you want to give her! Meadow can quite easily entertain herself with toys for a long time as well. We’ve given her the interactive games to solve and she loves those as well but she’s definitely passed level 2 and should be challenged more. Meadow is super smart and she is fun to watch trying to solve these puzzle games without destroying them! She can be rough with softer plush toys, and should be supervised when playing with them. Meadow loves chasing balls in the backyard and brings them back to you most times so you can throw it again. We use the word “drop it” so she will release the ball to us (this is also a work in progress). It’s been a good way for her to burn off some excess energy at times even after her walks. When Meadow gets the zoomies, she is fast, athletic, agile, and graceful. So much fun to watch. Meadow has become extremely comfortable in our home and is just one of the pack with our other 2 dogs. She does almost everything our other dogs do but is a little bit more well mannered and gentler! She really is a great dog and some family is going to be very lucky to have her. She loves to sit at our front window and watch the world (squirrels) go by without making a sound, she’s super content to observe things and the world around her. We’ve only heard her bark a handful of times since she arrived. She can stand at our fence and listen to the dogs of our surrounding neighbors barking at her and not bark back. Meadow does have a couple habits that I’m sure will pass over time or with the required training she will need, like, Meadow sometimes likes to poke her nose at you, or mouth at your hand mostly when she wants to play. We feel a family with children over 8 would be best suited for Meadow. She has not been around a lot of young children while with us, only preteens. Meadow has a tendency to steal shoes/slippers and sometimes laundry from underneath your nose and take it to another room to play. She has not destroyed anything in our home at the time of this writing. Meadow is like most dogs when it comes to dinner time and she smells the human food but she does not beg while you are eating at the table. She will lay on the kitchen floor while you are preparing it and be a tripping hazard so beware. If you are chopping veggies of any sort don’t bother trying to give any to Meadow as her palette will have none of it, but she’ll take it from you and go play with it. Meadow does like to nap on the couch or her dog bed, sometimes she is half on the dog bed and half off but she gave it some effort to make it all the way on. If she lays on the couch with you she will lay beside you to get pets and belly rubs but she’s not a huge couch snuggler. She will roll on to her back with ease for lots of the belly rubs if you are willing to give them to her. Meadow has not had any separation anxiety as long as she’s been with us. She has become comfortable enough to know we will return and she doesn’t have to follow us around from room to room. So, if you are looking for a medium energy, medium sized companion who is well mannered, smart, willing to learn, loves to play, and extremely cute…consider adopting Meadow. She will be up for adventures, exploring, and chilling with you at the end of each day. AVAILABLE Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. At Pound Dog Rescue, we believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, and learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. Blitz Everyone meet Blitz! She is the living definition of what a Husky is! Blitz is approximately 3.5 months old and she is a stunning Husky. She is about 25lbs currently and we expect her to be about 50-60 lbs when she is fully grown. Blitz still has all of her soft puppy fur and is a beautiful black and white, she has the most stunning mask and you can’t help but get lost in her face that just melts your heart. Blitz is one of those dogs that when she looks at you, it’s like she’s looking into your soul, her eyes have that perfect mix of wanting to work and please you, as well as knowing she be loyal to you forever. Blitz came into foster care with Pound Dog Rescue after finding herself in a remote area of Northern Manitoba all alone in the cold. She was initially taken into rescue by our friends at Save a Dog Network and then made the trek all the way here to be able to find her furever home. When Blitz was found it was clear that she had previously had a back leg injury, our vets looked into and it appears that the fractured leg had calloused over and is not causing any concerns currently. Blitz has not once shown any holding back when it comes to her leg and she uses it to it’s fullest and has no problem with wrestling and chasing the resident dogs or with keeping up in her walks. Blitz has received her vaccinations, has been heartworm tested, microchipped and has received her heartworm/flea/tick prevention. We will only consider a home for Blitz where someone is home or has the capabilities to come home throughout the day. Puppies need to be taken outside for bathroom breaks very regularly when they are small and will not be able to hold it for an 8hr work day. Please keep in mind that if you work from home you need to have a plan in place for a crating schedule for the pup as puppies need 100% of your supervision when not in their crates; you cannot expect to work and have the puppy running around in the room with you as they won’t have your full attention. We are also looking for families that are fully aware of the time commitment of a puppy and the work involved. Puppies are a total joy and bring so much love and happiness into a home, but you cannot underestimate the work and time involved in raising a puppy properly. They need constant supervision while young to expedite the house training stage and to ensure they aren’t chewing on anything inappropriate. We are also looking for a family that will crate train the puppies as we fully believe that this is the best for pups and offers them a quiet and secure “den” to call their own. A crate trained pup is a blessing as it offers a safe place to put them when you can’t be watching them all the time. Blitz absolutely loves playing with the resident dogs, she will happily initiate play for a game of chase, tug of war, or just some good old fashioned wrestling! Blitz is also happy to curl up with the other dogs and take a good nap in what I call a foster cuddle puddle! Blitz will happily entertain herself playing with some of the toys in the house, or outside with finding a good stick to chew on, however we feel that Blitz would really shine in having a playmate for her in her furever home. Blitz would do well in having another young playful male dog in the home. We do not recommend her going to a home with another female, as Blitz has already displayed some dominant traits and we want to set her up for success. Blitz does have a cat in the home, our cat is very dog savvy and therefore there have been no issues, but it is clear that Blitz is very interested in the cat. I would recommend her going to a home without a cat, however if it is a dog savvy cat and you are committed to training and ensuring peaceful cohabitation, I believe that Blitz can make it work! Blitz lives in a home with teens and she loves the attention that they give her. Blitz is still a young pup and she is still in her teething stage so she does still like to nip when she is playing with the kids. Because of this, I would recommend a home where the kids are aged 8+ and are well versed in proper dog play and interaction. Blitz is currently crate trained and she absolutely loves her crate. She will happily walk right in no matter what time of day it is or what is happening. We currently feed her all of her meals in her crate, and she sleeps in her crate at night, as well as being in it during the day if the humans are away. Blitz has always been very calm and quiet in her crate, it’s easy to forget that she is in there because once she is done eating, she will happily just curl up to take a nap until you are ready to let her out! Blitz will easily sleep the whole night through, but make sure you don’t sleep in too late! Blitz would do well in most home situations, she would really prefer to have her own fenced in backyard to be able to sniff around and play in (don’t forget to give her some digging areas). It is not necessary for Blitz to live in a detached home as she is not very vocal in her crate, but it is important that she has good easy access to an outdoor area and she is very much an outside dog. Blitz loves lazing around in the sun, she will find some sticks to chew on, some holes to dig and will just run around and enjoy the wind and sun on her face! Since Blitz came into our home when she was a very little puppy, we have been working on general house manners as well as house training. Her housetraining has come quite far and we are almost 95% without accidents. She has not developed a tell to let us know when she needs to go out yet, but when you give her plenty of opportunities to relieve herself she will take advantage of them. Continuing to praise her when she does her business outside is key to maintaining her house training. We have also been working on some basic obedience with Blitz. She is a working breed dog and she very much needs the mental stimulation that comes with ongoing training. This breed is known to be stubborn so it’s really important that you are consistent with your training and that you maintain ongoing training for all the years of her life. Part of our adoption process here at Pound Dog Rescue we expect a basic obedience class, however for Blitz we are looking for a family who is committed to taking her through advanced levels of obedience to help her become the best dog that she can be. We are looking for someone who hopefully has experience with the Husky breed. Blitz has been doing really well on her walks, they are her favourite part of the day as she is such an outdoorsy dog and loves to go on adventures! She has been starting to pull more and more on her walks as she gets bigger and older, so her family may need to consider starting to use a gentle leader head halter to help her. So far Blitz does really well on her walks when we see other people, dogs and wildlife. Continued walks and socialization will help with solidifying this wonderful trait! Blitz has also had the opportunity to take many car rides both short and long (3.5 hours) and has done extremely well for all of them. She is happy to just curl up and take a nap for the entire ride. Blitz is looking for an already active person or family who is looking to add a companion to join them on all of their adventures. Blitz loves to be outdoors, so someone who is already active in going for hikes or camping would be a wonderful fit for Blitz. We are looking for someone who will be committed to ongoing training for her to ensure that she is set up for success for her whole life. Ideally Blitz would love to have her own fully fenced backyard, and she would love to have a younger male dog for her to run around and play with. If you think that you can offer Blitz the home that she needs, then I urge you to apply for her now!
