Story
If you're looking for the perfect pup, look no further!
Meet Periwinkle (Peri for short), the 1 year old husky/doberman/lab/cattle dog mix (her breed was identified via Ancestry.com)! We can't say enough amazing things about this sweet girl.
If you're looking for young pup on the calmer, gentler side, Peri embodies this to a T. Peri is very docile, submissive, gentle, and loving. She wants nothing more than to spend time with her humans and snuggle up. She is slightly nervous to meet new people, but quickly warms up if you give her some time! Per her foster family: "she is the best dog that we've ever had the pleasure of fostering!"
Peri does incredible with kiddos (her foster family has a 7 year old and 9 year old), and loves dog and cat friends. However, she will need to be in a home WITHOUT another dog, and we will consider cats based on their temperament. Peri is house-trained, does fabulous in her crate (she is crated when her foster family leaves the house and throughout the night), is not a barker, walks wonderfully on a leash, and is food motivated which helps immensely with training! All who meet this cutie will fall in love with her instantly!
With all that said, Peri was born with the milder form of a genetic connective tissue disorder called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS). This condition can also occur in humans, which her foster mother has as well - so the family was well equipped to handle Peri's needs. Potential adopters should be knowledgeable in how to care for an animal with this condition or at least be willing to learn. Peri's skin can lacerate very easily, even if she runs by a tree branch too quickly (as an example - this hasn't actually happened). This means that she should be in a home without other playful pals where she could catch a paw, or playful nip, etc. She is fabulous with other dogs and cats, but we are requiring her to be adopted to a home without another dog; cats may be okay if they mind their own business/do their own thing and don't try to play with Peri in an aggressive manner. This is non-negotiable.
Important to note: please consider what you are financially able to handle with a pup like Peri. Her foster family has had her for 10 months and she's been nothing short of a joy to have in the home. But she will require care that has the potential to be costly. Regardless, you will not be able to resist this girl, she is truly one of a kind and deserves a loving and supportive home!

Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal positive reinforcement dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.
