Story
*Courtesy Post This is Ari! She’s almost 5 months old and looking for a home. She’s around 20lbs and seems like she’ll be on the smaller side for a husky. I'm a veterinary student at K-State and moved to Kansas from Arizona to go to school. I rescued Ari from the AZ Humane Society while home over winter break when she was out of time for medical reasons, and have been caring for her ever since. She was found as a stray at ~8-9wks old weighing only 5lbs and was very malnourished. Ari was diagnosed with a condition called PRAA - persistent right aortic arch - meaning that her aorta, which usually forms on the left, for her, developed on the right. The biggest issue this caused was megaesophagus because the aorta wrapped around the esophagus; as a result, she couldn’t keep food down once she transitioned to solid food. Until she could have surgery, she needed to be fed a slurry of wet food with water and help held in an upright position for 20-30mins to keep food down without regurgitating. She slowly gained weight and got her puppy energy back! Funds were raised and she was able to have surgery here at K-State, which removed the constriction on her esophagus to make eating easier. She has improved significantly since that surgery! With the assistance of an elevated feeder, she can now eat wet food, though I still mix it with a little water and make her pause a few times while she eats (she wants to eat so fast!). She can also keep down a little bit of a kibble at a time in the bottom of an elevated slow feeder. If she eats too fast or too much, she does still regurgitate, but it is much more easily managed now. I feed her 3 times a day still because she is skinny for her age, but she is happy and healthy otherwise! Ari is a super affectionate, happy girl who loves to play with other dogs. I have 4 huskies of my own and she thinks she is one of the big kids. She is fully kennel trained and sleeps in a kennel in my room at night. She is still working on potty training, but we are getting close! *Courtesy posting is a service RCHS provides to our community members who need to rehome an animal. Noble and gentle is the meaning of my name. Of course I am noble, I am part Husky. We may act silly at times, but we are a very noble breed. I would love to be addressed as “your highness or your majesty.” My breed loves to run and play. I would love to find a family that likes to go for walks, play in the park, and hike forest trails. I hope you like affection because getting close for deep scratches and hugs is a necessity. I cannot help myself; I love being with people. Please contact the shelter for an appointment to meet me!

I am named after an Avatar, a water bending avatar. Healing injuries and wounds is a skill of a water bender. Are you lonely or missing a loved one? I can help. Let me fill that empty spot in your heart. Let me make you feel whole again. Talk to me, cry on my shoulder, hug me. I am here to help you with whatever burdens you. Love me and I will return love to you, unconditionally. They say dogs are angels in disguise. Maybe. But I guarantee I be your guardian if you decide to take me home. I cannot wait to meet you, please call soon!
