Story
Hennessy comes to us from a rural shelter where he ended up after his owner died. He waited for 4 months for someone to adopt him. No one came. We had to bring him into our rescue when we heard his story. So welcome, Hennessy! Shout out to Pilots N Paws volunteer pilots for getting him to us!!! We are estimating his age at about 10 years and he's a nice size at 60 pounds. He's a great dog. He's got good house manners and is housetrained. He rides well in the car. He's good with most dogs, but doesn't appreciate dogs that are in his face. We do not know how he is with cats. We are recommending only older children for Hennessy because he gets grumpy if handled roughly. Hennessy rarely barks and does not try to challenge his foster mom's fence, unlike some huskies. He enjoys spending time outside and is content to lay on his foster mom's porch and survey his kingdom. He's a good boy! At the veterinarian's office he was well behaved and accepted handling by the vet and the vet tech. The veterinarian commented on what a nice dog he is! Hennessy is not a fan of being crated, but does accept the crate when needed. Even though considered a senior dog, he does like to run and play! He loves being on squirrel patrol and is quite active keeping his foster mom's yard squirrel-free. Hennessy's adoption fee is $200 and includes, neuter, vaccines and microchip. If you are interested in meeting Hennessy, please complete an adoption application located here: https://idawg.org/application.html

Story
MEET TENOR & BASS! Would you like a pair of happy-go-lucky and playful dogs who will smother you with kisses, greet you at the door and smile at you much of the day? That's pretty much what you'll get if you foster or adopt Bass & Tenor, a very bonded pair of husky mixes. They are each about 4 years old, rescued from a shelter well over a year ago. We are determined to keep them together because they love each other so much. Bass is brown-and-white and weighs 55 lbs., and Tenor is tan-and-white and weighs 60 lbs. Both boys are active and fun pups who need people on the go! They play with each other for entertainment, but would love to go on walks and hikes or runs! They would thrive with an active person, people, or a family with older kids. They occasionally like to jump up and give kisses, so would do best in a home without smaller children. They are not super friendly with other dogs but will give you all the attention you need as they are so affectionate, loving and loyal. Please email for an application.

Needs experienced adopter, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Blanco is a very happy guy; he loves to run and play and resembles a horse, especially as his long legs give him a ground covering stride. He equally loves to snuggle and truly believes he is a lap dog. He loves to lay across your lap and squirm around like a toddler. He doesn't like to be "patted" as that seems a bit fear inducing to him, but he likes to be petted in other ways. Blanco needs an experienced owner who won’t let him get away with being pushy when he wants something. Seriously, personal boundaries are not his forte. Do we hear people say: “Duh, he is a husky!”? Consequently, he jumps on people and gets a little nippy when he first meets them or when he gets excited but he settles back down pretty quickly, at least with adults. We haven’t seen him with medium or young children but he would probably get too rambunctious with them as he jumps on big kids. Blanco enjoys playing in the backyard as long as someone is with him. If that person goes inside, he scales the 4 or so foot fence or opens the gate. Luckily, he comes running as soon as called since he isn’t trying to run off but to get back with his people. He will need a tall fence to keep him contained. He does well to sit and will play fetch. Blanco does great in a 6’ tall chain-link pen in a climate-controlled garage with Coco and rarely has accidents. He goes right in when his foster mom opens the door. Surprisingly he hasn't torn up his bed or any toys. In fact, his foster mom hasn’t seen any destructive behavior. He tolerates a bath and enjoys being brushed – and regular brushing is needed! He doesn’t resource guard, but he will push other dogs away from “his” person and can be kind of rude about it. Fireworks and loud noises don't bother him. Blanco has been good with dogs in some situations and not others. He seems okay meeting new dogs but once they start to share space and he bonds to people he is less amenable, especially if his “backup”, Coco is with him. There is a dynamic between them that can be problematic, especially when they gang up, and they will probably do best if adopted into separate homes. Skills and sociability with cats - saw the family cat through the window and didn't care. Skills and sociability with other animals - not tested. Takes to one person mostly or the whole family? So far, mostly takes to his foster mom. Leash walking - does ok. Off leash - does well. In car - does great. In public places - does ok. Responding when called – great. Barking/howling/talking - high pitched bark when he's ready to be let out or he sees another dog in his territory. Crate and kennel trained – yes. Door dashing, runs off – sometimes. Stealing food from kids/counter surfing – no. Ok in apartment? - yes, if he gets to go out enough. Blanco is approximately 1 year old as of June, 2023 and probably a Siberian husky mix. He arrived with Coqueta (Coco) from California on June 10. They were surrendered from the same household to a shelter there. If you're interested in Blanco, please fill out the pre-adoption application on Linktr.ee/northernstardogrescue

Story
Grüner/Rippy has the most mushy personality you can imagine. If he had a car it would be covered with stickers like “Make love, not war”, “To know me is to love me”, “Give peace a chance”….and maybe “I can’t believe I ate the whole thing”. He is soft without being anxious. He is very easy to manage and generally easy to live with and he only keeps getting better as he matures. Grüner/Rippy frequently goes with his foster mom to places that serve food and/or beverages and allow dogs. Grüner/Rippy is great with other dogs. He is respectful and very good when meeting new dogs. At the dog park he was described by someone as the gentlest, calmest husky mix they had met in a long time. He loves to meet up with his buddies for play dates or have another fairly playful dog in the home. Toys are a must for this youngster; he loves having things to carry around and/or chew on. He will play fetch now and again. Grüner/Rippy is surprisingly good at not pulling on leash when out for walks. He has no problem walking on the Greenbelt or other place where he has to pass runners, scooters, other dogs etc. Most of the time he does fine when hiking off leash with his foster family and stays with the pack though he still shows a bit of the husky independence regarding coming when called. He rides well in a car. He has lived with cats just fine. Grüner/Rippy was one of the litter we named The Winos that we took in a little over a year ago. His adopters called him Rip which we have tweaked. Due to unforeseen circumstances the family had to rehome him. They had children and another dog and he was great with them all. He was born June 23, 2022. He has Siberian husky, Alaskan malamute, German shepherd and more according to his siblings’ DNA tests. Grüner/Rippy’s Achilles heel is being home alone though he has done great on his training of this and now does quite well. He would do great for someone working from home as he just lies around. He seems to benefit from having a furry friend when home alone. He is crate trained but gets claustrophobic when locked in it by himself. He does however happily sleep in a crate at night whether it is open or closed. While Rippy is a young dog that needs regular activity he doesn’t need all that much exercise.
