Story
Meet Big Boy! This awesome pup ended up in a rural county shelter as an adolescent, failed by adopters who were not committed or ready for puppy mode. Their loss will be someone else’s gain. We’ve gotten to know Big Boy and he’s an incredibly sweet, trusting, and good-natured pup. He’s a fun-loving, goofy boy who has maintained a positive outlook on life’s adventures. He loves people and has excellent doggy social skills. Big Boy lucked out when he caught the eye of one of our seasoned SC foster moms, Laine, who also volunteers at the shelter. She wanted to help him, and after seeing him in regular doggy play groups, felt he would fit in well with her pack. Big Boy started his rescue journey being fostered by Laine, Gary, and their pack of three GSDs. He did great there, learned the rules of home life, and did well as part of a pack.  In June, Big Boy came to N. VA to start his new life and is being fostered by our go-to trainer, Alexa. We usually give Alexa pups who need more rehabilitation than a typical foster family can give, and she always does a fabulous job. This time she wanted to foster a fun family dog for a change of pace and Big Boy was perfect. Alexa has two kids, two dogs, and two cats, and Big Boy is respectful to all and has fit in well. He’s such a natural with other dogs, he’s a great playmate for the client dogs Alexa boards and trains. Big Boy is housetrained and crate-trained. He LOVES toys of all kinds, playing chase in the backyard, and frolicking in the resident kiddy pool. He can be vocal when he plays with the other dogs but it’s just his style. He likes to talk to them and knows to respect their boundaries. Big Boy has spurts of energy but can also be chill inside the home…he’s more of a moderate-energy dog who loves to play. We think Big Boy is a Husky mixed with a Greyhound. He’s tall, but has a svelte build and is all legs! Big Boy is an active pup who loves to play and would love a doggie playmate in his new home. Alexa is working on his recall and leash skills.  We checked in with Alexa for a quick update: “Big Boy is such a gem of a dog. He’s a really good boy! He wasn't nervous when he first arrived but needed some guidance. I kept him close by me for the first few days so he could get an understanding of our home and how things work here. After day three, it was like he had been living here his whole life. He’s done great with my kids and the pack. He is super friendly to dogs, people, and cats. He has also met client dogs and had a buddy Bernadoodle stay with us over the holiday week. They did a lot of romping and playing in the yard and he had a blast. He’s a natural with other dogs, very respectful, and takes corrections well from any animal. I think Big Boy needs a fun, active handler, and another dog in the home to play with would be ideal. He makes such a great dog buddy. His leash skills improve every time we go out and he’s so trainable. He really wants to please his person and is very food-motivated. We are really enjoying him!” ********** Big Boy is the full package: &#226&#156&#148Super cute &#226&#156&#148Great doggie and kitty social skills &#226&#156&#148Excellent house manners &#226&#156&#148Kid tested - 6 years and up! &#226&#156&#148Being fostered by a TRAINER = BONUS! Big Boy loves people and dogs alike. He has a natural zest for life, rides well in the car, and loves to go on new adventures. He greets new people well and hasn’t met a dog he doesn’t like. We are looking for fun, active owners for Big Boy. Folks who like to go and do and want a pup buddy to join them. Big Boy will make an excellent sidekick and pup buddy for your current pup. He's an adaptable pack member too.  Apply Today!
